Hi everyone, I have uploaded an upscaled version where I have also tried to get the sound better, bear in mind this is a 10-year-old clip recorded from my PC on Windows Media Centre to my phone - It's never going to be up to today's standards, but I've done my best :)
I love how this guy says "fortune favors the bold" then goes on to explain why it doesn't

The best part is he gives this completely monotone explanation and you think he can't see the humour in any of what he's saying, then he gets it right and says "I would have looked stupid if that was wrong, wouldn't I?"

Yep. He's also the reason l've never been able to enjoy any of the Chases from other countries. All the other presenters come a VERY poor second to Brad.

The lammergeier is a huge vulture from Southern Europe and North Africa. It also eats tortoises because it catches them and takes them up to a big height and then drops them onto the ground, and there's even a record of someone actually being killed by a tortoise dropped by this bird, because the bird mistook his bald head for a big stone in order to crack the tortoise.

There was a woman on a month or so ago who answered a question about the periodic table very quickly, even Before the chaser and said “my brother made me memorise it when I was 7 so thanks to my brother” and then it was wrong

I remember hearing about this story in a history lesson some ten or so years ago and I honestly have no idea why 😂 but I instantly remembered about it after seeing this episode not too long ago.

I have actually seen one of these in the UK. Its other name is 'Bearded Vulture'. It may have confused the tortoise for a bone, as bone marrow is its Number One source of nutrition. It can't crack into the bone with its beak, so it has to fly up to a great height, aim the bone (usually a leg bone of a carcass) at a sharp point such as a big stone, as Russell explains, and hope that the bone breaks, to provide the vulture with a good access point to the marrow for eating. If, once dropped, the bone does not shatter, the vulture picks it up, flies into the air and tries again and again until it breaks. The bird must have thought, 'ooh! A strange, round bone! It's bone marrow time!' and found out that tortoises do not provide good food for them! The bird I saw was a long-stayer in the Peak District, called 'Vigo'. A female, she had begun her journey back to her usual haunts in Alpine Europe & the Mediterranean and stopped for a short while near Thorney, in Cambridgeshire. Being a birdwatcher, I couldn't resist, and travelled for about an hour from my home to see it. What a majestic sight it was! Doubt I will ever see one again.

Lammergeiers are also native to Central Asia and are considered sacred in Tibet. When I was out in Mongolia I was lucky enough to see 3 lammergeiers predating a dead cow, it was really humbling.
I enjoy predating, that usually means getting drunk and forgetting where I was going to meet her.
What a clumsy term. Once dead the cow was safe from predators. The birds were 'feeding' on it.
