Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness - Cecilia and the Satellite (AUDIO)

- I've been writing music most of my life. Songs have always been the place where I've sorted out the events of day. If you trace these songs back far enough they tell a story of where I've been and what I've seen along the way. That said, most people don't have the time to sort through the hundreds of songs that have collected in the wake of my 20 plus years behind a piano, and that's why I love "Cecilia and the Satellite". As a song it encapsulate so much living against the back drop of a new life. Cecilia was written with the knowledge that my wife and I would soon meet our first child. With the hope of avoiding territory this type of song often treads, I tried to create a road map of the life I had lived leading up to that moment. One my daughter might look back on some day. A strange life of constant motion, spent traveling in the pursuit of music. A life I've nearly lost on more than one occasion and one which I am thankful for, now more than ever. Deep down this song is about more than me and where I've been, it's about more than my daughter and what I want for her. It's about being proud of where you come from and wanting the most for the people you share your world with.

LYRICS
I've locked myself in a hotel room
Then waited all night for the walls to move
I've loved some girls that I barely knew
I've made some friends, and I've lost some too
Crashed my car, I was seventeen
My mother in the seat riding next to me
The things I've learned from a broken mirror
How a face can change when a heart knows fear
For all the things my eyes have seen, the best by far is you
If I could fly, then I would know
What life looks like from up above and down below
I'd keep you safe, I'd keep you dry
Don't be afraid, Cecilia, I'm the satellite
And you're the sky
Oh, Oh
I've café crawled through Amsterdam
Been around the world with a punk rock band
And I've seen London, and I've played Japan
I've been knocked down, I got up again
For all the places I have been, I'm no place without you
If I could fly, then I would know
What life looks like from up above and down below
I'd keep you safe, I'd keep you dry
Don't be afraid, Cecilia, I'm the satellite
And you're the sky
Oh, Oh
I'm the satellite
And you're the sky
For all the things my hands have held, the best by far is you
If I could fly, then I would know
What life looks like from up above and down below
I'd keep you safe, I'd keep you dry
Don't be afraid, Cecilia, I'm the satellite
And you're the sky
And you're the sky
I'm the satellite
And you're the sky
And you're the sky

Want this song to rock even more?
IT'S WRITTEN FOR HIS DAUGHTER
Ok that is sweet
Film TOAST thanks for bringing the tears to the surface
It's actually about him being in the sky as a satellite hovering over earth sorry to break your hearts
i thought it was about gay rights
i found a theme song list for Voltron characters and ships and the one for Shidge (ship) was this and it makes sense because i see Shiro as her father and Pidge as his daughter.
I heard this for the first time while I was speeding down some one lane highway though the Oklahoma panhandle and it was getting dark and it was really one of the greatest experiences ever. The windows down all the way, this turned up so loud, hair blowing all over the place, with everything I owned in the seat next to me.
Those kind of moments in life are the best.
I'm from oklahoma but im in LA for now. life is just great like that sometimes && you should charish every bit of them:-)
Jackson martin I'd love to properly visit Oklahoma in the future. In addition to the drive mentioned above, I've been through Oklahoma City as well, from 35 south to 40 west. So just passing through each time, the thing is, I didn't expect to fall in love with it.
Yeah same here
Yeah same here
"Of all the things my hands have held, the best by far is you."
Quite possibly one of the greatest lines ever written in song.
Yesss! Its a song about his daughter i believe
Aww.....That makes the line even more stunning because I was thinking of my daughter when I heard that line. *smiles*
iambic meter too
+Knight Of Moons It does sound perfect
+ANerdInSlippers *of all the things my eyes have seen, the best by far is you
“For all the things my eyes have seen, the best by far is you..” ❤️❤️
I got here because I listen to a good radio station...
Haha I know right?! :)
I'm with ya!
Which station is that? I want to find more good music like this.
jsan Philly's Radio 1045 (104.5 fm)
I got to this song cause of Fuzz 92.1.
This song has my favorite lyric from any song ever. "The things I've learned from a broken mirror, how a face can change when a heart knows fear."
How am I just finding this song now!? This is radio quality!
They play it on AltNation! I absolutely love this song!
it plays on KROQ too
Its on all the time in KC. But the Buzz is the best station ever.
look up: something corporate
Kc!
I found this song by watching "No Good Nick" on Netflix.
Man, I really sound like a teenager.
Me toooo
Same
lol same
4 year later:
same lol
In the passenger seat,
Internal demons swirling
Heard the song
Opened the window
Turned up the song
And closed my eyes.
It felt like time stopped for a while, with that song. Somehow was the best I've ever in a long time.
+Fyid Rants Jafeel. I something similar. A good letting go of the past kind of song.
good thing you were in the passenger seat ;)
Had a few miscarriages. Was pregnant last year. Wasn't letting myself get excited.
Heard this song, didn't know the background of why it was written (now I do)
Just knew for me it was about my baby. And that I'd get to keep this one. Told hubs if it was a girl I'd consider Cecelia for a middle name.
A few weeks later, turns out I was right. It's a boy, but this song still defines the experience for me.
So for me, this song represents hope, love, and victory.
See you June 16th at Lakewood!
Congrats!!
You are awesome.
This is crazy reading this, I just got some scary news from the doctor about my baby, she told me not to worry but I'm feeling crushed and remembered this song and decided to listen to it.
I hope everything turns out okay and I pray for you and all the mothers out there, all we hope for is that our 'Cecilia's' are healthy and happy. (From one soon to be mom to another) xoxo
Um ok...I did not get that when I heard this song. The more people have kids the less I want them...lol.
Jennifer Lee that's my birthday
I played this song for my mother, she fell in love with it, my favorite line was , dont be afraid Cecilia I'm the satelite and your the sky.. Two years later she passed and when I listen to this it just makes me feel like she watching over me like she's my satelite.. R.I.P mom love you
I got here because I'm on a mission to find every song with my name in the title.
Congratulations, Cecilia
Who would name their kid satellite?
SPaige4 i honestly hope that's a joke. My name is Cecelia. (not exactly the same as the title, but eh, close enough.)
Thresh Prince My name is AUDIO
luzo0o0 hello, audio!
"...For all the things my eyes have seen the best by far is you..."
How does this awesome song not have more than a million views even a year later? Paying too much attention to the wrong artists.
+EnchantedKake It does now, not when I originally commented.
+Devils Bounty Hunter because unfortunately, the music industry is very dark.
+Devils Bounty Hunter There's no such thing as "wrong artists" just ones you don't like.
*****
Why are you here if you don't like this song?
+Devils Bounty Hunter it's hard to look up first of all man sometimes that's the only reason people don't see these videos as good as this one
ive been looking for this song for 7 years.... hearing this song in a store was all it took to make me cry. i finally found it. this was my jam when i was 4.. im so happy i found it again. 😔🖐😏
4??? You’re still too young for CZcams bro
@@AlzMarioWolfe uh- I was 12 at the time. Now I'm 14. I dont think that was too young. I mean idk how old you were when you were allowed to watch yt- but idk your life or your family rules so whateverrr. But I would hear the song on the radio when I was younger.
@@HowAboutBill I’m talking about having an account, you said this song was your jam when you were 4 but it only existed since 2014. That would make you 12 now.
@@AlzMarioWolfe oh interesting. I may have estimated the time inaccurately. It was somewhere around the ages of 5 or 6. All I knew when I wrote that comment was when i was super young. I knew I was old enough to have an opinion on liking a song I hear off the radio. But young enough to not have an electronic device to look up the song. If I did I wouldn't have been here writing the comment. Either way your opinion didn't matter in the slightest. If I had a yt account at 12, I have one. You know damn well there's four year olds on yt now. Why say a 12 year old couldn't have yt? Not tryna pick a fight, or offend you. But your comment was irrelevant and wouldn't have changed anything. And like I said, I don't know your family life, so your guardians may have said that 12 is too young, so you think so aswell, possibly growing up with that information. Maybe not. I dont know. Too me, it's not that young, just should be monitored. Anyway goodnight/day
@@HowAboutBill I’m just saying you’re supposed to be 13+ to have an account on almost anything social media, it’s not that serious really and I believe you anyways
I love to go outside at night and lay in the grass an play this song while i look up at the night sky and there's stars everywhere😍 Its The Best Feeling Ever
FU
you look like a prison lesbian
+Baseballguy123 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you No Good Nick for helping me discover this amazing song
me alsoooo :)
Same :)
My youngest sister is named Cecilia and this song has been looping in my head as she’s grown. I intend to share it with her someday.
brings back memories from being a high school senior. I have the chills
I work at Kohls and we only have 2 cd's of songs that are played over and over and over. Your song is the only one that has never gotten old. As a matter of fact i obviously listen to it at home too. It's awesome and very clear that making music is what God has graced you to do.
CKone Adefender hahaha
Joanne Sabra I wasn't joking or being sarcastic. This guy really is talented.
CKone Adefender at least you don't work at Target… there's absolutely no music.
Kayla M Oh my gosh i can't believe it but i never really noticed that before! Your'e right. I used to work there too. I liked working there but what really got to me was that strange smell. To this day i still can't figure out what that comes from. lol
CKone Adefender Did you work in a SuperTarget? If so, I think it's from the food... if not then I suppose it could be the floor and carpet cleaner…
I heard this song while holding my preemie daughter in the nicu. Her name is Cecilia and she came early at 25 weeks ❤️ love this song!
this song makes you feel alive
8 years on and I still love this song.
the lyrics the vocals the piano im cryin i cant handle this its so wonderful to hear this new music!!!!
Time to revisit this song
@@xvaiking3158 me too :) its amazing
Heard this song today in Supergirl episode. Beautiful rendition.
+Akash Kothawale Do you agree it should be Superwoman instead of girl?, it sounds ridiculous
+fengkorberfer Nahhh Superwoman sounds lame...besides it's Supergirl in the comics...
Kris Zepeda Superman or Superboy.. hmmmmmmm
fengkorberfer It's like how it is in the comics...i mean women are refered mostly as girls, putting aside their age..meanwhile men..well..yeah..men..
Kris Zepeda It's kinda dumb really.
I knew this song but never knew the title, The Voice finally allowed me to find it~
+Emma Swan You should try Google...
+Emma Swan
The same thing happened to me.
I heard the song and wrote down some of the lyrics and looked it up on Google and that's how i found the song.
Kyrin101 I only knew the tune, then when somebody on the voice sang it I looked up the lyrics.
New from Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
I haven't heard this song in so long. So nostalgic
Come back brother
I've been looking for this song ever since I heard it in the trailer for Pete's Dragon. I finally found it!
lmao same it took me forever for some reason
Me too
I remember listening to this song 4-5 years ago when I was in 8th grade. Can't believe I still listen to this.
I'm still here.
@@liquidrope7063 I’m so old I swear I was a sophomore in high school when this came out
still here
I finally found this song.
Just cause JC did👌👌 he alway introduces me to the best songs!!!!!
Totally ☺️
Yeyyyy me too
I'm a huge alternative indie gal and the fact this song is so perfect and written for his daughter is just amazing
I got here because of jc caylen anyone else?
I have resigned myself to the fact that I just love Andrew McMahon, yet another song I adore. I'm 52 and have always loved prog, just found a new local station on the radio which I love. Excellent
I named my car, Cecilia, after this song because I got it when I was 17 and it says "crashed my car when I was 17" and now I'm having to get a new car. I'm so sad. :( haha I love playing this song when I'm driving!
Finally found this song.
I last heard this song 4 years ago on the radio on my way to school at 6 in the morning. I just randomly thought of it
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SONG TODAY! 🎶✨
We still listening in 2021
My niece Cecillia is graduating from UofO in Eugene (BA-Communications) today.
This song is gonna be forever stuck in my head
This song needs to get huge. Like top 40 huge. He deserves it.
Wow!!
Heard this the first time last night. How did I miss this????
....for all of the people who have just now started hearing about Andrew McMahon, I suggest looking up the bands Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin. Start with the song Konstantine (and yes, it's purposely spelled with a 'K'). Also if you're interested in the singer, look up 'Dear Jack' which is his documentary on his battle with leukemia. Also, I feel bad for those that haven't heard all of the amazing songs made by this man. Watch The Sky is another great song as well. So, go listen to his music and fill your playlists with amazingness.
This song is always so emotional to see live. Especially when the confetti burst hits and we’re showered in confetti towards the end of the song.
When I first heard this I had just gotten my license and I was driving by myself for the first time. I'm 17 and I'm in a old beat up Chevy Malibu driving down back roads in Tennessee. I love it instantly and learn the lyrics so I can find it when I get home. Now I've found it and I'm in love.
Abigail Burgner I hope you didn't crash your car at 17, with your mother in the front seat.
I fall in love with this man more and more with every album. 10 years. What a beautiful soul.❤️
oh, I absolutely love this song. I heard it for the first time in the car with my granddaughter Cecilia and she was belting the song out like there was nothing else around her. Thank you so much for this lovely song.
His progression over the years is just phenomenal. Unbelievable how he continues to grow as a musician instead of recycling the same old stuff.
I'm going to FINALLY be seeing him in a few months on the last day of his fall tour. Cannot wait!
My new favorite song RIGHT HERE
And congrats on the big news! I believe that she'll be an amazing person with a father like you, Andrew. And you're so right. Through something corporate , and jack's mannequin, you've really opened yourself up to your fans. And I really appreciate it, Andrew. I was thinking, just a few days ago, that "without Andrew on this earth, I'd be a completely different person." Thanks so much for continuing to write songs and produce them.
id heard this song a few times on the radio and thought it was alright. then i saw it performed live when Andrew was the opening act for panic at the disco and Weezer during the summer. it was an outdoor concert, and the sun was beginning to set when the show started. it was the kind of pleasantly warm weather you find only on summer evenings. i was beside my 2 best friends as we held each other's arms and sang along. it was possibly one of the best times of my life. one of those perfect moments that come along every once in a while. the best part was when he sang "crashed my car I was 17" and I yelled "SAME" because thats exactly what had happened to be a few months earlier. anyways this point is this is a beautiful and its always going to remind me of that perfect night
I remember my father playing this for me as a child, hearing it now makes me cry because I love my father so much (no, he is not dead) but I just miss him so much and don't get to spend a lot of time with him .
Heard on Supergirl!
I never thought I could love the sound of my name so much.
supergirl
I was looking for this song for a long while.
First heard this from a wattpad music recommendations book
What life looks like from up above and down below...... bet you sang that line huh.
Yes I did
you don't even how much I did it...
The moment I heard this song on Alt Nation I immediately recognized Mcmahon's voice from Something Corporate. Glad to see he's still making great music.
I love how this song is about his daughter. :)
I temper this song from when I was little I’m still a kid but yk I remember my dad was driving with my and my older brother we were on the free way and we were on this bridge it’s was awesome it’s like when you find something you loved but lost a long time ago lol idk
First heard this from the preview for the new Peter Pan movie.
I might be the only person in my country listening to this song and I am happy I found this song
I can not stop listening to this song
The "All the things" lines are so straight forward and direct; yet expressive. This guy is talented.
Whoa. Amazing song. He's come really far from Something Corporate. I can't wait for his album in October!!!
Thank you Spotify for coming through for me again. Another true artist discovered.
This is one of my favorite songs EVER and the other day when I got off work I walked over to Wendys. So i'm just sitting there enjoying my nuggets when this song comes on. I spent the next 3:43 singing along not caring that the elderly couple across the restaurant kept staring at me.
just played the song. my granddaughter and her husband are naming their soon to be newborn Cecilia ala this song. thanks andrew
Supergirl brings me here!
This needs to be on iTunes or spotify

the fact it was written when for his daughter before she was born😪 all the feels
This song, nanana, and hurricane describe my life 🌃
Love the new synth stuff Andrew is laying down on these tracks. Makes me reminisce a little bit of the Postal Service on a McMahon time jump through sound and awesomeness.
This guy needs to do an Amsterdam show. And play some old songs while he's at it.
couldn't agree more!
nederdraad?
i miss this song when it used to come out on 106.3😔😔😔this song really got me pumped up every time they use to play it but now they took it away😣 i hope they put it back one of these dayz😊
