HMS Queen Elizabeth departs with fighter jets on deck during NATO activities 🇬🇧 ⚓️ ✈️

  • Britain's flagship aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, departs Portsmouth after a brief stop during a Carrier Strike Group deployment. As a result, a portion of the airwing remained on deck. The airwing consists of F35B Lightning IIs with the Royal Air Force.
The Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier had to make a brief stop at His Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth to repair a lift issue. The Royal Navy warship also took the opportunity to take on stores. Afterwards, the ship returned to operations with NATO partners and Sweden during Vigilance Activity Neptune Strike 23-3.
Usually fighter jets aren't embarked onboard an aircraft carrier while in homeport. This is the case when a deployment ends and the fighter jets depart for their inland bases. This makes the carrier less of a target, avoiding potential accidents with aircraft and freeing up the deck for maintenance and other works.

While yes your right about the security stepped up i don’t think anyone is actually stupid enough because first of all they will definitely feel the full force of the British military and I have no doubt that they would feel the full force of the American military as well and well if that anyone is the big mouth guy that doesn’t like to call a war a war was to attempt to attack the vessel I think that nato would somehow find a way to immediately invoke article 5 which would be very stupid to do especially since they effectively are more ready than they have ever been due to the massive exercise

I was lucky enough to see Sea Harriers land on HMS Ark Royal in Sydney Harbour in 1988 just before she passed under the Harbour Bridge. Awesome sight! I was watching from Garden Island Dockyard on my ship. The Queen Elizabeth Class is a very unique and cool looking ship.
I met a couple of blokes from Arkers on one of the nights they were in Sydney…they drank me under the table! 🤣
Oh, and we nearly bought HMS Invincible… but something happened in the South Atlantic in 1982 which scuttled that agreement. We also offered military assistance for that, but our offer was declined.

We use the term 'fleet' to describe all the aircraft of a single type all the time, whether its official terminology or not. We rarely use the term 'Wing' any more to refer to aircraft, because the RAF doesn't really have many aviation wings anymore. Our Sqn falls under a Force HQ, which falls under a Group, and there aren't enough Sqns to form a Wing.
The only time we really use it nowadays are for things like Base Support Wing, for example. Even Air Mobility Wing refers to the A4 Eng side of things, rather than the A400, C-17 or Voyager aircraft fleets themselves.
The USAF at Lakenheath organise their sqns under the 48th Fighter Wing, but our Typhoon sqns are organised under the Combat Air Force, which falls under 1 Group, no Wings.

Not FAA or RAF's fault. Building the two super carriers saddled the RAF with an aircraft they don't want or need in the shape of the F35 Bravo. The UK can't afford to equip both services with what they require. The first batch of F35 went to the RAF. Hence why that's what sails. None of this is needed to defend these islands.

All UK F-35s are under the control of 1 Group, RAF. Every RAF and FAA squadron is jointly manned by a mixture of personnel from both services. It provides far greater flexibility in the force, as airframes and pilots aren't tied to either land-/maritime-based ops.

@@paulgrimaldi5904 my point is that it's not the job of the Royal Navy to stop channel crossings, unless those crossings are of a military nature. It falls to Coastguard and Border Force.
It's also the job of a well resourced asylum system to offer legal routes, thus making the channel crossings less attractive and lucrative to criminal gangs. It would also allow us to maintain far better control over those trying to enter the country as they'd be tracked through the system from the start, and we wouldn't need to try and spot them bobbing around on a boat.
Alas, the Tories completely dismantled any legal routes, which has led to the current illegal immigration problem we now face, and that the Coastguard and Border Force have to spend far more effort and money dealing with.

All countries have a duty to protect their people and borders from outside threats . That is why we have an armed force . And a bit of a pipedream having a well resourced , efficient asylum system under the present government . And evidence suggests nobody has to be spotted in their flimsy boats ,they have A French then a British escort as they cross the channel ,without that there would have been many more tragic deaths .@@Orbital_Inclination
