  • The RC Pro is DJI’s Premium Remote Controller compatible with a variety of drones. Unfortunately, it only has 32 gigabytes of internal memory. Of which, only about 11 gig are available for day-to-day use.
    Expanding the Memory of DJI’s RC Pro is not as simple as plugging a MicroSD Card into the slot. In this Quick Class, we’ll first show where to change the parameter so that the RC Pro writes to it; What files utilize the SD card when this parameter is set (and what doesn’t); as well as what files migrate over when this parameter is changed. We’ll also provide information on safely ejecting (dismounting) the MicroSD card.

    Please Note: Although the operating system recognizes the MicroSD Card and you can manually copy files to it... You must format the card in the RC Pro before you can change the "Current Storage Location" setting to start using it. To format the MicroSD Card, from the Home screen open the "Files" app.Tap the 3 bars in the upper left and select your SD Card (usually 2nd from the top). Then, tap the 3 dots in the upper right and select "Storage Settings". Then, tap "Format".

    Apologies for the extended comment - subject matter seemed appropriate. -thx.
    Compliments on a well designed/delivered class for the RC Pro - RM510. The shipping firmware version that RC Pro shipped with in late 2021, would mount the Sdcard, but not designate it as portable storage, nor extend system memory (avoided by most Android devices due to potential system drag from slow or defective SDcards) To mount SDcards today, select "portable storage" from the notification shade and select target in "Profile, Settings" as you demonstrated. Significant changes were enacted with Firmware Update v03.01.0500 on 1/24/2022.
    * Added support to cache video and download original video to an external SD card.
    Like the breakdown of file save locations by type. I move Screenshots & Recordings manually, as well as downloads -usually APK's for apps I add. Flight Logs I hadn't noticed, but again that shows the completeness of your work.

    Hugely important video many thanks @MiddleLoop. With having the Mav 3 Pro Cine version with an internal card I never realised the RC Pro controller required a micro SD card until my internal storage ran out when I first tried to download the new firmware.. lots to learn
    Quick question... I have a couple of 32 GB and 64 GB San Disk Extreme Plus cards from the Phantom Pro 4, I trust these will be fine to use although not indicated on your list , but see the Extreme Pro is listed, which is also V30

    • @middleloopvideo
      @middleloopvideo  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Likely fine. Our list is what DJI has tested. So, no guarantee. But, you’re using it in RC Pro. So, it’s just for cache files. Your Cine will be capturing important files on the internal 1 TB drive.

    • @60park
      @60park Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks for your reply.. can I take it then that the Micro SD card in the RC controller would mainly be used then for the low res video cache files and when eventually the card is full you would dump them off to storage elsewhere if required, be they only low res references ?
      I have a further RC Pro controller question if and when you have a moment . Just the back story here first ,when I tried to clear space for the firmware upgrade it was suggested I delete cache files which I did, however the thumbnails of my waypoints seem to be missing or are they..? I read that the Waypoint Mission Library will not be deleted if the App cache is cleared so hopefully this is the case. My waypoint history seems to be there still thankfully as I can see the list , but there are not any frame grab thumbnails as the first column is blank or would I have lost these anyway when you download and format the card or move from the location? My 'Flight Data Center records' are also all there still and a map of each flight course is easily downloaded with a push. My low res Aircarft Album is also still there and available and which is no doubt currently taking up much of the storage space.
      Back to the Waypoint history and my newbie question .. I need to go back to the same location in six months to film the same waypoint shots for seasonal lapse time shots in our dry season. How do I work out which recorded waypoint flight is what as it seems there is no photo thumbnail or map/satellite reference for the previously recorded Waypont flights ? These waypoint shots are in a variety of different locations so I would naturally need to go the correct location first before starting each flight ? Sure, I could make notes on the exact times of each shot from my Waypoint history and then match the location of the individual shots from my Aircaft Album to work out which waypoint shot is what, but that is a mission. I naturally want to avoid going to a location and then engage the wrong waypoint shot from another location. There must be a simple easy answer here that I'm missing :)

    • @middleloopvideo
      @middleloopvideo  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Automatically, the RC Pro only gets Low Res (HD) cache of videos shot. It doesn't even get photos. Photos and the Hi Res versions of the videos can be downloaded to it... There is a setting to tell the RC Pro how much room to set aside for the cache... then it starts overwriting it. personally, for video production I use the files off the drone, not the controller. besides being higher res... The files on the drone won't be affected any transmission problems between the drone and the controller. I'm actually working on a video on expanding the memory of the drone right now. But, to answer you question... Yes. If you want to keep the cache versions, back them up to a computer or something.
      It sounds like you are using waypoints associated with the time-lapse feature. I dont have much experience with that feature... although we have a full series on regular Waypoints ( czcams.com/play/PLtJ_UtyjP8Qw0Ko6DkeC3cEkk0XpyP0oR.html )... not sure if it's the same... and i've never lost the waypoint thumbnails... however, it kind of makes sense, that the thumbnails are part of the cache. I wonder if you get the thumbnails back if you open the waypoint mission. Just a thought. With regular waypoints, you can give the mission a name.. which probably is not lost when clearing the cache.
      Have you tried regular waypoints? This is what I use for rerunning the same mission over and over again...
      Good luck!

    • @60park
      @60park Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@middleloopvideo Thanks for your quick reply here ! Sorry to confuse you, when I mentioned 'lapse time' shots I was referring to standard real time shots that I have been filming as Waypoint missions so I can then create lapse-time shots over the seasons with dissolving identical flights /shots six months apart. Not to be confused with time lapse shots or waypoint time lapse shots. My issue being although I can see my history of Waypoints shots I don't seem to have any thumbnails so difficult to coordinate the second season of flights and working out which mission is what . Where I slipped up was as you suggest not giving names for each shot or simple shot numbers so I could then make my own location notes. I did another quick Waypoint test today so a couple of days after deleting my cache and I'm seeing no thumbnails for this so presume thumbnails are not generated or kept wit the way points. I can now see a map or satellite flight plan for each waypoint saved when I open up an individual shot.
      I have the date and timings in my waypoint history of course so will just cross reference this with the downloaded master footage and make location notes so I know where to go for each follow up shot in six months time. I'm talking about a big desert location here with massive distances and little easily recognisable landmarks hence the concern. :) All a learning experience !

      @@60park sorry you’re having so many problems with disappearing thumbnails. Sounds like a cool project though. I’ve thought about putting together a tutorial on it.

    Question, if I just plan to upload videos to CZcams at something like 1080p would it be more convenient to just use the videos from the rc pro SD card? • @middleloopvideo
      @middleloopvideo  Před rokem

      Sure. A couple of considerations:
      Any transmission issues between the drone and RC Pro will be present on the video.
      You might want to expand how much memory is available for cache files. There’s a setting that controls how much memory can be used.
      Checkout our video video on Simple Editing. You might want to trim the video, at the least. If I remember correctly, it has a mechanism for uploading to some of the social medias. Simple Editing using the DJI Fly App

      @@middleloopvideoThis is my first drone ( Air 2S ) I just took for granted that the SD card would be a plug and play. I put a 128 GB in the drone and a 128 GB in the controller. Went out and took some test recordings to familiarize myself with the file work flow. Took SD out of drone and check the files. All was good there. Then I looked at the cashed files on the controller itself. Could view the cashed files there okay. I did have the storage defaulted to the SD card at this time. Turned controller off and plugged SD card into desktop computer. Could not find any file that contained the cashed files on the SD card. Then I remembered hearing something about formatting the SD card. So I put SD card back into the controller and formatted it. Then did another test recording. Then putting SD card into the desktop I could see a different file structure than what I had seen before. Now I was able to find the cashed file okay.

      You can’t get it out of the slot? When you push it in gently with a small object, like a small screwdriver, it should push in a mm or two and feel a little spring loaded. If not, I wonder if the slot is broken. You can contact DJI support.
      Btw. If you watch our video on accessories, we recommend inserting it and leaving it. Good luck 🍀!

      @@middleloopvideo I do, it came with my mavic 3 enterprise. I'm trying to get the pictures to download from the controller to either a mini SD card or my MacBook. I contacted DJI and they don't know how either. Thank you for any help. :-)

      I believe that controller is a little different (at least the software is a little different on the Enterprise version).
      Have you viewed our video on copying files from the RC Pro to a Mac?
      ( czcams.com/video/9ph16QIeTLA/video.html ) ? Be sure to install the “Android File Transfer” program on the Mac. Also, please note: We have best results by powering on the RC Pro BEFORE plugging in the USB cable.
      Also, are you using a Micro SD card from DJI's list of compatible cards. ? If so, have you formatted it on the controller per our video ( czcams.com/video/NXhws03fZvM/video.html )? Enterprise version might be different here too.
      Good luck!

    BETER VIDEO QUOLITY WHEN SD CARD IN DRONE NOT IN CONTROLLER

    • @middleloopvideo
      @middleloopvideo  Před rokem

      Yes. The drone can capture 4k or higher. The video captured (cached) on the controller is only HD. However, if you download the video from the drone to the controller then the controller will have the higher definition video too.

      You should check out my channel. I have lots of training videos on the RC Pro.
      I’m also working on a new video about where to find key files on it.
      I hope it helps!
