    I was looking at TuneCore but when I read multiple peoples experience of their carefully created albums they uploaded, then somehow accidentally being attributed to another artist on TuneCore and then distributed widely , combined with them not being able to contact customer service to fix it - that sounds like a big problem

    Thanks for this video Charles. I have been publishing with CD Baby for years, but now Facebook Creators lists TuneCore as a partner. It does not list CD Baby as a preferred partner. Thanks again,

    Very nice. Good vid. It might be mentioned that if one belongs to ASCAP or BMI, they would collect royalties, and therefore $29.00 CDbaby choice really may seem unnecessary if one considers this feature a selling point. Membership to ASCAP and BMI is free.

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  Před 3 lety +7

      Are you for sure they collect mechanical royalties? I know they collect performance royalties but it’s important to understand the difference.

    • @kurtwieting
      @kurtwieting Před 3 lety +1

      Hi - yes ASCAP and BMI are performance royalties which would also be if your music were played on radio etc. . Harry Fox ( also free to join) are the mechanicals. I just feel that if one joins both performing rights and also Harry Fox, the 29.00 option isn't really necessary. I'm def open to hearing why it might be. My friends who are fairly savvy and successful in the Spotify 'stream world' also universally have solicited the guidance that the 9.99 choice will 'do the job' if one has both those collection agencies also.If there is more to it I would love to know as I did have questions regarding this in the beginning. Always can learn new stuff! Anyway once again nice vid!

    With the new tune core pricing, does that effect the scale between the two? Especially as a solo indie artist?

    Hello , I am pleased to share with you what happened to me with CD Baby and I hope you can help me
    Two weeks ago, a copyright complaint was sent against my song, which is Cover
    CD baby deleted all my albums and pages on all platforms
    I tried to talk to CD Baby, but they told me that I had to talk to the artist via his e-mail, and when I spoke to him, he refused to return the song or even remove the copyright.
    And I can't do anything
    So my question is, can I open a new account in CD baby
    And the new account is made up of another email
    And completely different
    Not the same artist name can I???
    I hope for a reply and thank you
    The same artist name that you put in the ****previous account

    THE BIGGEST THING IS THIS AND NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT IT. IF FOR ANY REASON U FORGET TO PAY THAT ANNUAL FEE AT TUNE CORE, EX. YOUR MONEY IS LOW, OR U GOT A NEW DEBT CARD ANYTHING YOUR MUSIC WILL BE STRIPPED FROM ALL DSPS. AND THAT TO ME IS A BIG ASS DEAL! ID RATHER GIVE CD BABY 9% AND A FEW DOLLARS UP FRONT FOR PIECE OF MIND. IMAGINE IF U DROPPED 2 ALBUMS OR A BUNCH OF SINGLES THE PRICES AND RESPONSIBILITY ONLY ADD UP MORE.

    $300 in royalties the first year? $500/yr after that? At that price, keeping a catalog available is an expense. Tunecore seems cool, simple, attractive, but the price is high. How many streams does it take to get $300 in royalties? Even the highest paying are like 2 cents per - thats 15,000 streams minimum ( and most platforms pay 1 tenth of that, or less)! Go gang!

    Hey Charles, I have my first release with cd baby coming up on Nov 13th. Sent my song for inspection a few of days ago. Kinda worried it won't make it on time. Do you know how much it takes for my music to be distributed to main stores after inspection approval??

      @@CharlesCleyn As for now, I haven't received any updates about the current inspection status, just an email telling me they built a promo page for my new single.
      But I guess I still have to wait a bit more since it's only been around 2 days and it still appears as 'being inspected' on my CD Baby account.

    Hello, I am not sure you mentioned it: what happens if you stop paying Tunecore's annual fee? Well, they say your account gets downgraded and all your releases are taken down. So you are forced to paying for your entire life the annual fee (same problem of Distrokid!) and this is for me an absolute down side.
    Is any musician willing to pay an annual for his/her entire life? Guess not...

      @@raywhite8539 well I feel like tuncore has that one on one kind of interaction with their artist unlike CD baby it's like you dealing with a default, programmed kind of interaction.
      For the mere fact that tuncore gets your songs out to over 40 streaming platforms, this gives me ( who has a low fan base) an opportunity of EXPOSURE, I think that is one thing that as an upcoming independent artist I should take advantage off.

    TuneCore customer service is terrible there was an issue with my songs to go out released so I emailed them which is the only way you can contact them. I've never heard from them since and it's almost a week now. I think it's a big red flag especially when you have some issues if they never answer you, what other options or actions can you take? What if it's a payment issue or something? I feel kind of glad that it happened right at the beginning. Looking for another one and hopefully I find one that actually offers a decent customer service that's not too scammy.

I even had to get my money back through my bank cuz they didn't care about it either. Such a scammy company. You should avoid them as much as you can. At least Distrokid's customer service is good so far but it's kind of too early to judge anything, so...
