Easy fix for slow, low water pressure, Kohler pull down faucets. Works for Kohler Barossa and other models. Troubleshooting and easy fix.
QUICK UPDATE:
Wow, I had NO idea this would be such a popular subject. Thanks so much for all the comments. Our little kiddos treat it as a huge event when I announce a new one - it's hysterical and much-needed pandemic fun! Since this video, I went back and - using the tip of a pencil - popped out the entire piece that was getting clogged. I believe it's a flow restrictor. All you do is take a pointed object and place it on the side of the clogged part that does not have the black rubber ring. With a little push, the piece will pop right out, ring and all. It will slide back in if you change your mind down the road.
Well, that's the update. Thanks so much for the love! When the founders of CZcams were in a room together thinking about all the glory that would be bestowed upon the earth with their amazing invention, they had this video in mind. Just some dude in his kitchen helping thousands of people with a simple fix using his phone and a jar as his only props. Thank you good sir. There is a special place in CZcams heaven for you.
Well said.
Elliot freely admits that the video quality is horrid - he's right. This is also the most helpful video I've seen on CZcams in years. Thanks so much, like all the other commenters, I've been fighting this problem for a long time. 10 minutes later and it's done.
I fought with an intermittent flow problem for over a year. Thanks dude. Saved me 300.00 for a new faucet.
1 million points awarded to this man here! You saved me $300 and a world of aggravation every time I used my faucet. This was the exact solution to my Koehler Elmbrook low flow problem and it was brand new.
I have the elmbrook but my piece was black and didn’t have a removable piece like he is showing. Same for you?
Removing the small o-ring was my ultimate fix. Thanks for showing how to take this apart!! Really helpful
Came here to say this, but you did the job. Much higher flow!
Small O ring????? I used this fix, but still do not have the flow as it should be. Is there another trick???
The best handiman videos deliver fixes that work, this video delivers
Over the past few months, I’ve taken my faucet apart several times trying to fix my slow water flow. So glad I found your video!! Problem is fixed!! Thank you for posting!
I have the exact same faucet and had two issues. I had low flow plus very low flow on the hot-water side. Using from what I learned from the video, I cleaned rust particles out of the white part. The flow was improved but the hot-water side was still slow compared to the cold-water side. I removed the handle and cartridge and found a piece of rust stuck in the hot-water orifice. I couldn't pull it out but was able to loosen it by pushing it in with an ice pick. I reassembled the faucet valve and handle and then removed the hot-water hose from the wall valve. With my thumb covering the spigot, I turned on the water to the middle position and was able to back flush the hot-water side using the cold water and found two pieces of rust about the size of a BB. The faucet now works like the day I bought 12 years ago. Thanks for the video!
They say not all heroes wear capes, but you sir should wear one at all times so everyone throughout the land knows of your greatness. I had already wasted hours looking for solutions, came across your video and within 10 min my faucet worked line new. Thank you.
THANK YOU! I had tried EVERYTHING else! This worked perfectly. You deserve every bit of praise you're getting for this simple video. Cannot thank you enough.
Thanks for this, saved me a lot of time and trouble shooting. I disassembled the quick-connector and, using a 3/16" wooden dowel, popped the restrictor out and have left it out. This faucet has never produced good flow since new but now it's running at 100%. I have no problem blowing out and cleaning the spray nozzle and hose if they clog in future. Thanks again.
I just bought a brand new faucet and installed yesterday. Low water pressure drove me crazy. I took off that connector and destroyed everything internal, using drill, screw driver, etc... an hour later, i had excellent pressure! Thanks!
I have been dealing with this low flow and have tried a bunch of different things. Today I was determined to just go and spend the money on a new faucet. Something made me check CZcams one last time and I stumbled on your video. You saved me a bunch of money and time. Mine was loaded and once I cleaned it, it ran like new. I can’t thank you enough for posting this video.
I am so happy that I found this video. I also tried everything, flushed lines soaked the head. Took the handle apart etc. I had seen the plastic piece on the line, but would have had “no idea” on how to detach it without your help. Worked like a charm. FYI, theee was a small “o ring” inside which I removed and it’s working great.
Where is the small O ring? Is it inside the part he took out and cleaned. Mine is better but not as good as it should be
So glad to have found this video. It solved my pressure problem and was such an easy fix! Kudos to the commentator who poked out that little part with a pencil. I did the same right off the bat because I really didn't see any buildup. Thanks again. So nice to have blasting pressure, especially from the sprayer!
Thank you for this video! It helped me fix the extremely slow flow on a Kohler kitchen faucet. Slightly different design of faucet and flow restrictor module, but basically worked the same. After finding and disassembling the white flow restrictor assembly as shown, I cleared the holes in the blue plastic flow restrictor (ours is blue, the one in the video is white) with a bent paper clip and rinsed the whole assembly off well. It got rid of a lot of little black granules that probably came from our hot water heater. Water flow is now several times what it was before. Many thanks!
This was eye opening. We had issues with water pressure for the past week. Inspected the quick connector as shown (mine has clips on both sides and can’t be disassembled) and found a HUGE piece of rubber in it. Cleaned it with a safety pin and now it’s back to normal. Wow. Many thanks my friend.
We had to buy a new faucet. We eventually still had this problem. We have a handy man and he was never able to fix it other than replace the whole damn thing. I’m in a really pissed off mood and didn’t want to wait for hubby to figure out what to do about it. Looked through so many CZcams videos, tried so many things and none has helped like yours. You have changed my life. I cannot thank you enough! Thanks to you, me, who doesn’t know anything about anything around the house issues, was able to fix the faucet problem that has plagued my family for years! Thank you a million times over!
Thank you for posting this video!!! I have tried about everything and was going to replace the faucet when I ran across your video...thank you again and I will be adding a tip cleaner to my tool kit..
Okay, I never comment on videos but since you're apparently sharing these comments with your kids: I'm another happy customer! Good grief! I went through the same YEARS of low flow that many others did--I cleaned the faucet head multiple times, finally broke down and bought a new faucet head once (probably $50), and this summer I was determined to take the whole thing apart and either fix it or buy an entire new faucet. Instead I followed your wonderful, terrible video-- I think you said "worst video ever" :D -- and like many others I just ditched that tiny black rubber o-ring. And now I have water pressure again, for the first time in years!! You're awesome! My wife is thrilled. Thanks again!
I have the same faucet. The problem I have is my leak is coming from the plastic white connector. Do you know if that is Kohler product? I am not having luck finding the same one to replace the leaking one.
Thanks
Thank you!!! I've been fiddling with this off and on for a week now, following all of the steps. I figured it was up in that white part but I didn't know how to get it apart.
Thank you for this!! Just had a new Kohler Elmwood installed and I was shocked at the low flow. I tried this and it immediately fixed the issue. Even with a new faucet, there was a ton of mineral build up! I appreciate you for taking the time to film and share this!
Don't know why Kohler doesn't have this information on their website! We had no idea there was a second filter on our faucet, not easy to see this part behind the sink and it doesnt really say what the part is on the parts list. Not the same model as yours, but a pull down model also that has the same part. Your instructions were invaluable. We have had problems for two years and it was finally to the point it was so bad we were going to replace it! Thanks so much, it works great!
Thanks you so much for this video. My sink faucet was horrible without any flow. Now I fixed it my self without buying a new faucet. You saved me some money... It's amazing how something so simple can cause this problem...
Thanks so much! Mine was a little different though. I had an o-ring in there instead of debris/deposits. Removed the o-ring and so much more flow now! Never would have thought to check that little plastic piece without your video.
Mr. Hirsh, First off, thank you a thousand times over. My wife and I just bought a home after selling our home of 14 uears and it has been one thing after another. We are on a well and I had been battling mineral deposits daily until we got a double filter system installed and a new faucet for the kitchen. It worked great for about ten minutes before some residual mineral build up from the lines put us right back where we started. I have been looking for a solution to this problem and your video finally shed some light on the problem. Don't discredit you video quality at all! It is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much! Please upload more and don't change a thing!
It worked!! Thank you! They did some water line construction and we couldn’t figure out why our front sink was down to a trickle. Your’s was the first video I looked at. Again, thank you. You probably saved us a 150 bucks just for a plumber to show up. I knew it was in our faucet, but where I couldn’t tell. My wife is happy, which makes me happy, because well, you know wives! It’s all good!!
Ok, I could not figure out for the life of me how to get this part off and searched everywhere online to try and figure it out. After watching your video, it literally took me 5 seconds. Thank you
I just knew there had to be a way to get more water out of this faucet, and you showed me how. So thank you for taking the time to make the video. You made the difference.
4 years after you made the video and it's still helping DIY'ers. Saved me a new faucet and and hour of contortions under my sink as well. Like others I tried other things including replacing the head -- button had failed anyway -- and the cartridge (only $14 through amazon). No bueno. Followed your video and like another removed the little o-ring as well. Works like new and no leaks so the o-ring must just be a backup. THANK YOU! I'd drop off a six pack if you lived nearby.
Worked like a charm! Easy job. Snapping the white plastic fitting back onto the copper line was a bit precarious as it took some effort and didn't want to break anything, but apply to steady Force until it snapped back in place. Surprising how a few small pieces of particle can reduce the flow significantly.
I also took out that small black o-ring in there to aid. No apparent negative side effects at this time.
Thank you Mr. Handyman at large!!!👍
THANK YOU so much! Mine is the new Kohler Trielle (same design as yours, I guess just newer) and I just installed it brand new. My little screen thing was perfectly clean when I opened it up, so I took that little o-ring in the middle out and it now has the pressure it should have. I looked at the screen thing carefully, and really didn't see it sealing anything before I took it out (the one in there was too big anyway), and there are no leaks. Thank you for guiding me in the right direction. There are no youtubes for the new Trielle, so your video was a tremendous help!
Great tip on cleaning out the quick connect piece there. There was some build up, but I also removed the little o- ring in there. With how it is constructed the only purpose I can see that it has is to restrict water flow and the faucet works great now.
Thank you so much for the very professional explanation .it saved me over 300 . God bless you
OMG!! I have been fighting this for a YEAR!! Thank you SO much!! This is literally the ONLY video I've found on this. Hallelujah & Amen!!
THANK YOU!!! This video saved me so much pain and suffering!
Your video saved my life !! I bought a faucet and brought it to Brazil. I had no water pressure, 3 years later and after many attempts by my husband .. I saw your video and I solved it myself! Thanks a lot!
Thank you! I tried everything except taking that o-ring out. It ended up being stretched to block the holes, but now my sink is working great. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Had to sign in and thank you for the directions Elliot. I recently had to cut the water off at the main water line leading to the house. Apparently, when I turned the water back on, the back pressure cut loose a bunch of sediment clogging up all our faucets and shower heads. I could not figure out why our kitchen faucet still had no pressure even though I cleaned out the spray head. That little plastic piece under the sink was the culprit! Appreciate ya.
Thank you, you rock! I didn't see any significant mineral buildup in the valve cartridge, but I soaked it in vinegar anyway and used a brush around the intake. Afterwards, the water flow improved considerably, to the point where the sprayer actually has the power to spray off food from my dishes. FYI, I also had problems with the sprayer switch with this faucet. I'm on my third sprayer head since October 2016. The switch seems to get mushy and eventually doesn't really work to turn the sprayer totally off. It's incredibly annoying. Fortunately, the faucet has a lifetime guarantee and if you go to the Kohler site and provide your model number and other info, they will send you a replacement head for free. They may also do that for the valve cartridge, which is something I'll try the next time the water flow slows down to a crawl.
I've watched over 10,15 videos on everything else either succeeded or stalled and none spoke of this. I did this in 15mins. Been at it for two weeks... Thank you very very much.
Thank you so much for creating this video and sharing with us. I was able to use it last night to fix my Kitchen faucet which had slow flow problems.
Thank you so much for this video. I don't care about the video quality...bc the content quality was so helpful! I did the same thing what you were saying in the beginning...but yep, it was inside that plastic fitting. Thank you!
Thank you for your video: your solution solved my problem that had been ongoing for months, and Kohler kept sending parts that didn’t fix the problem.
You have my gratitude.
Serious life saver, dude. I had the same problem, followed all the standard instructions, etc... and this was the issue all along. SO EASY and fixed it outright. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much, works like a charm now. I have the same type of Kolher kitchen faucet, and I have tried everything, and still not working. But follow your video. There was a little rubber ring in the tube getting old and dirty, I took it out, and now it works even better brand new.
Thank you Elliot!! I tried everything and this did the trick. Very much appreciated that you took the time to share this with everyone!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! We have a very similar Kohler pull-down kitchen faucet that had the exact same low-flow problem. It was degrading over time and got very noticeable about a month ago. With lockdowns and Christmas holidays and all, we just dealt with it, but it got way worse in the last week. I thought it was a problem with the piping to the kitchen as our pressure everywhere else in the house was fine. I'd tried cleaning the faucet head to no avail and was starting to look at replacement parts. So glad I found this video! Our faucet has almost the exact same white plastic piece as yours, just different clip mechanism on the water-supply end, otherwise same issue - I had no idea that part even existed. We love the faucet itself and are very pleased to have water pressure now that we haven't enjoyed in a few years.
Thank you for posting this video! I was able to get the faucet running again in no time - I wouldn't have thought of the quick connect as the culprit.
I tried 4 hours worth of troubleshooting. Finally, I saw your video and that was my problem. Much easier fix than all the things I tried. Thanks!
This has been a little piece of gold. We have a 4-yr old Kohler Trielle pull-down that has been driving us nuts for two years with low flow. Like some others here, I looked at everything I could think of to clean out, and nothing worked. Finally stumbled across this video and bingo, problem solved. The tiny little O-ring in the quick disconnect has deformed over time and spread out into the flow path, restricting the flow. Remove the O-ring and you're seriously back in business. (The O-ring's only purpose seems to be to act as a flow restrictor. Over time it gets *too* good.) It is extremely disappointing that nowhere does Kohler ever mention this. Thank you Elliot!
Followed the video for my brand new Kohler Mistos faucet. Found debris in the plastic filter for my spray line, cleaned it out and went from almost no flow to acceptable. Thanks for posting this, a huge help!
just want to say thank you!! I stumbled upon this while trying to search to see if that check valve was a flow restrictor and if it can be removed. I decided to just clean it per your video. I ended up having to clean both sections of the plastic quick connect (I used picks I purchased from Menards) I also had to flush the hard line leading to this quick connect, and back flush the cartridge, took some compressed air to it too. Took a few disconnects and re-assembles but FINALLY got it flowing great! I almost feel like its better than when it was new ha ha. Here's to fellas helping other fellas thanks again!!
Thanks for posting this. As other's have mentioned, this is not just an issue with Kohler faucets. I have a Moen and there is a similar check valve in mine. In my case the rubber gaskets in the valve complete disintegrated which in turn blocked the valve. I removed the valve by pulling on it with some needle nose pliers. After the valve was removed, the water flow returned to normal. I'll have to see if I can find a replacement valve in case it actually does some thing important.
Extremely helpful video thank you so much. We've been living with this issue for years and had no idea and it was so easy to fix ourselves
You just made me feel like such a winner. My kids think I'm so cool for fixing the sink. Thank you so much.
Worked for me. Mine is a Kohler elmbrook kitchen faucet with low pressure. The plastic wasn’t dirty on mine however I saw a very small rubber o ring inside, taking that out improved the pressure majorly. Thanks.
Thank you! You helped me fix the frustrating slow flow problem, I could have never guessed where it's stuck.
This is the only one that worked as said here. THANK YOU!
Yep it worked great, after 1 year of low pressure, and in fact, i just didn't clean out that little piece, i removed it completely - didn't want to have to clean it every 2 weeks (after enduring this problem so long). Thank you Elliot.
I called Kohler before I watched this and they are sending me replacement parts due to slow flow. I just tried your advice and the flow is much better. Thanks for posting!
on my second faucet, just replaced the first one that was just like yours because the flow was awful....my new one the flow a little better but just did this mod and WOW serious flow now. Thanks so much for taking the time to post this, even if it was a little cell phone ish. :)
Seems this video is still helping everyone after many years. Lol. My faucet has been bugging me like crazy. I just used this fix today and my faucet is good as new! Thank a bunch, Elliot!
Thank you thank you. Wow, I can't believe this was the culprit. Kohler, it's a disgrace this wasn't included in your troubleshooting section of the manual.
This video has been a life saver. Thank you so much!
I was pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. We were about to buy a new faucet.
The amount of dirt was unbelievable! Thank you so much! Worked great!
Thank you for the simple, yet highly effective video!😊
This is video is a life saver. Kohler needs to update their troubleshooting to address this part. I had the same issue on the Cursiva single handle faucet. I had replaced the aerator and the cartridge with no success. The plumber came and removed this same small part to solve the issue. Wish I saw this sooner.
Even the customer service guys don't mention this fix when you call them. Sent us a new filter for inside the faucet, but not a word about this sucker that was full of rocks! Thanks a bunch!
You rock! Never knew that was in the line blocking my pressure with crap. Thanks.
This is extremely helpful to me. Not that I was concerned about slow flow, but I was going to replace the pull down hose, because it had a leak at the head of the faucet, where the little ball connection is. But to replace it I needed to know how the opposite connection works. I needed to know how to disconnect it, and reconnect the new hose. You showed it very well . Thanks!!!
I mean literally I bought a new nozzle and aerator. Installed a new cartridge. Was about to try and remove the water reducer and stumbled upon this video. Fixed in 5 minutes.
Our tankless water heater wasn’t working in the kitchen because of the water pressure. You just saved my marriage
Just did it. It wasn’t buildup that was blocking it but a small o-ring. Now it works great!
Thanks!
Thanks! AMAZING difference in my water pressure now. My wife will be super happy!!!
Amazing!!! This video made my slow running water back to normal. Thank you!!
I wish I could like this a hundred times. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I also tried everything and couldn’t figure it out. In fact, when I opened up this quick connect thing I didn’t see any noticeable mineral deposits/debris. But in vain I poked at it a bunch with a safety pin. And put it back on. It works! Even without noticeable debris.
It was very useful. I knew it was because of some filter but couldn't figure out how to remove it. Thanks a lot. It might help many others who are using this product.
You, good sir, are a hero! Thank you!
Removing the tiny o-ring solved it for me. Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for this video, worked like a charm! Probably saved me a couple hundred bucks on 5 minutes of maintenance, brilliant 👍
An amazing vidéo, we have been experiencing that problem since the faucet was installed. Just one day we had pressure. But now water os running nicely.
Many thanks from Guatemala 🇬🇹
It’s the most helpful video that works for water pressure issue. It saves me 500 bucks😊
I was about to buy a new faucet then I watched this video and problem solved. It saves me $200. Thank you very much!!
You’re a husband saver I didn’t have buildup in the holes it was the tiny washer that was deformed just took washer right out dramatic improvement and no leaks thanks we had a plumber had said it was our building pipes and put up with it for five yrs
Just what I needed. Almost installed a new faucet. Then I saw your video. Perfect!
Thank you! Just fixed mine following your steps , water is flowing great now.
Because of this video, I was able to fix my slow flow faucet. Thank you so very much. I do not know how you figured this out. Thank you.
Thank you! The faucet is only 1 week old, but there was enough grit in that aerator to slow the flow way down. I actually just unscrewed the bottom part vs unclipping the whole thing
Thank you so much for this video! I couldn't find a video for my faucet! Your video was so helpful and now my faucet is working so much better!
Thanks! It worked! I also revived the tiny O ring inside that part that I poked pins in to remove the debris.
i fought this faucet 4 hrs trying everything
even bought a new pull down head
i watched your video took 5 min and done
thanks great you posted this it works like new
Omg- Ur the MAN!
Lil' secret.. I fixed it in the middle of the night while hubby was a sleep.. (took me 2 minutes!)
Than, in the morning he was STUNNED after he thought there was no way other than replacing the faucet.
Now, he thinks that I'm so talented.. LOL
You’re the man! This worked perfect and got our faucet working like new again!
Nice work thanks for the info . Tried a lot of things your tip did the trick . Can’t believe how my water pressure came back
Thanks. Super useful. Saved 200$ and prob up because of this video.
It has been driving me crazy!
Thank you for this video!
Brilliant! Nice! I could not find a solution anywhere on the web. This simple video saved me time and aggravation figuring out how to disconnect the simple clip connector for the hose. Thank you!
Many thanks! Replaced the cartridge to no avail but you're find was effective and much easier!
You are my dude for the day! My faucet works again. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
