@@MarlboroughBlenheim1 They're not the most competent real instrument performing musicians (though could be very competent if they practiced that again), however, they composed many of the most seminal and creative pieces of music in living memory...so there's that.... :) [...also checkout Chicane Ibiza 1999 MTV and many of their other live instrumental performance gigs ]
@@electrocademyofficial893 “seminal and creative” - that’s just your opinion. Please provide evidence for this other than just a fan liking what a fan likes because you can find any band with fans who say the same things.
Personally, I don’t agree. It’s mood music and I like some of it, but it’s certainly no more complex or technical than other groups. The big issue is that it’s not organic. Much of it is synthetic and done through computers - so there isn’t the real creation of real music with instruments that is human. Also, lyrically are you really saying this group offers any profound insights into the human condition? It’s hardly Bob Dylan is it. Now to contrast your claim about Chicane, Dylan is an excellent example. Whatever you may or may not think about him, objectively he has been regarded as seminal and creative - a Nobel Prize winner - and has changed popular music and influenced huge numbers of other great bands and he’s done it for 60 years. So that’s an objective measure of ability. Can chicane say they come anywhere even close to this?

@@MarlboroughBlenheim1 Of many examples I can provide: for example, I recall many of the most successful artists of the genre quote Chicane as their key influence and inspiration, Offshore's one of the most remixed and reworked tracks and been on more compilation albums than I've ever seen. Armin's early tracks gained momentum and arms and legs and thrived into very large numbers of releases of his own and other labels, and he has one of if not the largest dance music labels on the planet...
..as you say, the comments are a place for opinions and there's no right or wrong in that regard... I've not said anything about whether it's more complex or technical than other groups of music in my previous comments; often the most simple music is the most beautiful in fact... That said as a professional composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/concert pianist/.../ I've often found when creating the genres of Chicane/Armin that it indeed does turn out to be the most complex and technical....
...where I agree with you are DJ's who often can't play instruments at all or use loops and sounds created by people like me who've provided the samples or programmed the computer parameters, and play records that were created by others and often get credit from people as if they're the composer. I don't disagree in any way about Dylan; I believe Chicane/Armin have the talent to have done ballpark similar to Dylan if their circumstances/timing was the same and if Dylan's genre is what they decided to put their mind to. Dylan equally might have been able to do what Chicane/Armin have done if that had been his timing/circumstances/genre ambitions.
Whether sounds are synthesized or played on a live instrument, they're still the same musical notes and chords thought of by the composer (notwithstanding my point above of DJ/producers who can't actually play music ripping the work and thoughts of other musicians) and in the same way a real instrument performer introduces nuances of the sound when performing, this is also done with hundreds of parameters with a sound on a synthesizer/computer (source: I do and play both)... that's indeed how a lot of the music (say) Chicane does is "atmospheric" as you say yourself.
Commercial success is dependent hugely on many factors/forces that go well beyond individual musician's raw talent so arguments made that way don't really have much sway. Lyrically the goal of vocals in trance/dance music is a world apart from lyrics in Bob Dylan's genres; it's not possible or relevant to compare that. Overall all three are exceptional and in differing ways. We're on the same page there.
@@electrocademyofficial893 yes - but you’re limiting it to the genre which is one of many that music comprises. You originally went a lot lot further than that and claimed their influence was in music generally. I’d agree they are influential in the genre. But not music generally. Someone Dylan has influenced it all.
