Square, they never were, actually the opposite; very popular w/ all of us who were young kids at the time. In elementary school, there were a couple of us who would sometimes wear our official Roy Rogers shirts [w/ the fringe] to school & everyone liked them as there wasn't anyone that didn't like the Roy Rogers Show. *wish I had kept just 1 of those shirts; it'd be framed & hanging on my wall for sure! Comfort food for the spirit : ) yes, indeed.

Here was a well polished production, very complex, done with professionalism by all. This is back when such things were done live, in one take, and unedited--it was live, perfect the first time. I wonder how old they were here--they looked and sounded great into their old age, you'd be surprised to find how old they were here. People don't know how Roy lived his life--he was so accomplished in many areas--he was an avid hunter, shooter, he would decide to enter a trap-shooting event for example, and at days end he would often be a finalist, one of the last competitors, shooting against professionals who did little else but shoot trap. He may not always win, but he competed against pros and made it look easy.

I later became drawn to working with those with developmental disabilities and especially worked with a performance group as a Director of young adults who had Downs Syndrome called Movin' On. I have to think learning so young about Robin Evans planted a seed in me when I may have been only 10 years old or so. Nolan and Spencer hired brothers Karl and Hugh Farr and became The Sons of The Pioneers. Because of their association and friendship with Rogers they were also signed to appear in most of the Roy Rogers movies. In 1936 Tim Spencer left( returned in 1938) and Bob Nolan recruited Lloyd Perryman . This line up was the most noted and recognizable and were together for several years. Bob Nolan retired in 1947 and was replaced by Ken Curtis as lead singer. Curtis later played Festus Hagen on Gunsmoke.

I used to love the 1950's Christmas Carols as a child! Life seemed so nice back then. Now we have rap!
