They weren't sparring. John was trying to teach him a move (it's a private lesson) and as he was showing the move, the guy started sparring to get the jump on him. That's essentially assaulting him because he didn't agree to sparring.

I mean dude thats just salt, I get that you are a bjj fanatic, but there’s other grappling martial arts, like judo or wrestling. And its not uncommon for people to do front headlocks, a lot of beginners in combat sports come with the misguided notion that they have to show they’re not weak, or that they are tough/talented/etc… to earn respect. Its super common, to punish a beginner for being a beginner when you’re a master is an absolute dick move, he could’ve stopped the role and talked to the guy if he felt threatened. But he didn’t he just wanted to show the guy he was able to hurt him because he has spent more time rolling around the ground in pajamas than him. I mean if I go to a bjj class and a purple belt tries to bully me am I entitled to pull a weapon and cause bodily harm on him because I feel threatened? Absolutely not. Dogshit whitebelt logic, and if you’re not, whoever promoted you should reconsider.

This is literally the equivalent of being given a boxing lesson by an iconic boxing mind such as Mike Tyson and then while he is explaining something to you, you just sporadically decide to start punching him in the face out of nowhere; You best expect that he will dish it back at you tenfold, making damn sure your body doesn't forget the experience.

The blue belt pushed the untrained loser, got punched right in his jaw, then literally thrown across a bar table in the middle of a crowded group and wound up unconscious on the beer covered floor of the Round Up. Training in any one format doesn't make you any sort of expert.
