    I really needed this for a sony vegas edit but after seeing it all separate it made sense immediately. If you're on vegas, just copy the clip and then use your key frame window to fill the screen, set that clip/layer below the clip you're actually trying to show, and then just add the blur plugin and adjust accordingly.

    Awesome video, thank you! Just a hint to others that might make the same mistake I did. I was having trouble resizing the bottom video layer and it's because I was using the video from an iMovie video instead of the original video clip. The iMovie had already exported in 1920x1080 so it wasn't letting me resize the bottom clip for the background. Once I realized I needed to use the original clip as filmed on my phone, then this worked PERFECTLY!

    Stop the side blur, it is very annoying and can cause seizures. Learn how to correctly film horizontally.

    • @ThisGuy
      @ThisGuy  Před rokem

      Obviously people know how to "correctly" film horizontally. However, sometimes for certain videos people have mixed media where some is vertical and some is horizontal. In those situations, you can either zoom way in (crop the top/bottom), leave it black, or enhance the background in some way (like the blur effect). It's not as simple as people are filming things wrong in vertical and then needing to use this to fix it for horizontal...

    • @michaelmickelsen5520
      @michaelmickelsen5520 Před rokem

      @@ThisGuy This blur doesn't fix the video. It just makes it annoying to view. If it was filmed correctly, there would be no reason for the blur.

    • @ThisGuy
      @ThisGuy  Před rokem

      @@michaelmickelsen5520 I never said it fixes the video. Maybe read what I wrote again about having mixed video aspect ratios that need to be in 1 single video. Let's say a wedding video that has various clips of both bride and groom throughout the years. Some clips might be vertical, some might be horizontal....So, why do you assume that the vertical clip "wasn't filmed correctly?" Again, like I said above there are a few ways to deal with this mixed media situation, and this is just one way. Plus, plenty of people like it, including myself. If you don't like it, don't use it in your videos.

  • @brax2364
    @brax2364 Před 8 měsíci

    I do not understand why anyone would want to do this. It’s so damn irritating to the viewer. If you’re going to blur out two thirds of the clip, why include the blurry parts at all??? Simply do all your irritating videos in portrait mode and be done with it.

    • @ThisGuy
      @ThisGuy  Před 8 měsíci

      You would do this in a "mixed orientation" video. Like when most of your video is in landscape, but you have a clip or some clips in portrait that you want in that video. Lots of people like the look, hence how many people have watched/commented on this video alone...I also prefer it myself (over simply leaving the sides black), most of the time.

    • @brax2364
      @brax2364 Před 8 měsíci

      @@ThisGuy Thanks for the reply. Still, I don’t get it. Having two blurred panels seems to me to be an unnecessary distraction - especially when a clip is shot in landscape and the two end portions of the same landscape video are blurred out leaving a center portrait view and leaving the viewer wondering what they are missing in the blurred parts. If blurring these videos out like that is such a novel technique, why is it I’ve never gone to the theater and seen a movie where the film editor did that. Apparently I’m missing the point of why you do this with CZcams video clips. Again, thanks for the polite reply
      . - respectfully, brax.

    • @ThisGuy
      @ThisGuy  Před 8 měsíci

      @@brax2364 Okay, so I'm not talking about blurring the sides of a landscape video "leaving the viewer wondering what they missing."
      What I'm talking about is a video with mostly horizontal/landscape clips (so it's sequence is in landscape as well) but you need to include a shot that was filmed vertically/portrait WITHIN that landscape sequence/video. At that point you could zoom it in to fill the screen (cropping off the top and bottom of that the portrait clip), leave the sides black, or be creative with the sides (ie: blurring them).
      If you film every clip of a video in landscape, then you're all good. If you film every clip of a video in portrait, then you're all good. If you film some in landscape and some in portrait (and want to mix them within the same video)...now you have to make some decisions...and one of the options is this blur side effect.

    • @brax2364
      @brax2364 Před 8 měsíci

      @@ThisGuy OK, thanks. Now I get it.

    • @brax2364
      @brax2364 Před 8 měsíci

      @@ThisGuy Here is an example that may better illustrate what I’m talking about. This video appears to have been recorded entirely in landscape but the author or whomever blurred out the two side panels throughout the clip. Do you have a suggestion on why they would do this in a clip like this one? Apologies for me beating a dead horse. czcams.com/video/7HrIC_CVOkE/video.htmlsi=R5B4TUQI9D7KJZDh

  • @Damocles3
    @Damocles3 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Please don't do this. Blur makes it hard to watch videos. Simple black border would look much better.

    • @ThisGuy
      @ThisGuy  Před 8 měsíci

      sometimes...sometimes not...I prefer something back there myself. Blur? Faded? Duplicated? Depends on the video.
