Bobby Byrd...greatest hypeman of all time!
FACTS!
Fr
He wasn't the same after bobby left
I would wager Flavor Flav was inspired
Well spoken truth!
Rest in peace James Brown and Bobby Byrd. Thanks for all the great music and memories.
This is the most hardcore funk!
I think a lot of people don't give Bobby Byrd the credit he played a big part in developing the James Brown sound and if it wasn't for Bobby Byrd that would be no James Brown rest in peace soul brother number one James Brown rest in peace to the great Bobby Byrd I know it's getting funky in heaven right about
This Man ...... A Special Blessing To Music. And His Partner Bobby Byrd. #SoulLegacy .. The Greatest Hands Down.
Totally agree
Now this is FUNKY! Music with real instruments. This is what today's music is missing.
and real ppl too
I agree, these people really knew their business. Real funky soul music, it's hard to find these days.
True indeed
If I told you where to find it today, you wouldn’t look - so why bother.
Super-tight, driven funk! James Brown invented it...and he and the JB's brought it every time they hit the stage!
51 years later and it _still_ sounds so fresh. The godfather was hip hop before hip hop was.
Yep! Me and my brothers would turn him up LOUD when parents were gone! Haha
Washington DC 1960’s & ‘70’s.
The holding of the horn notes a goosebump level
How the hell has any human got the ability to hold that note for a week like that?!
@@wonkylommiter6364 Circular breathing
All those HBCU bands do that.
This clip is so Hip-Hop most people don't even know it. The whole persona of a rapper is attitude, swag, and confidence. JB's stage persona, especially during these years, exemplified all of that. Bobby Byrd is the original hype man. JB is the original MC. Instead of 2 turntables, he put together the funkiest backing band: The Mighty JB's!!
RIGHT ON!!!!! ......WELL SAID!
well said...solid!!!!!
on my baby! this is where it alll started!!!
Its kinda Krumpish too
mann.. from the Hypeman (B Byrd) to the funky drums breakdowns & repetitive call N responses / beats in the songs...hip hop DNA
As a teenager in the late 1980s/early 1990s I was acutely aware of the influence James Brown's music had on the musical landscape, With more than just hip-hop artists being inspired to sample his work.
The REAL moment that I realized how influential Mr. Brown's music could be was when I attended an "Oldies But Goodies" party in Newark in the late 1990s.
I was there with people who enjoyed these songs when they were brand new,and believe me when I tell you, when the DJ played these songs, It was like the whole room turned into 25 year Olds again. The Raw intensity of his music conveyed itself on a dance floor in a way it never could on the radio.
For any younger people intrigued by his music, I'd strongly recommend you seeking out venues that play his songs in a live setting. You'll have a healthy respect for his work when you see how it makes people feel on a dance floor.
Thank you and R.I.P. to Paul Chambers.
James Brown,Bobby Byrd & The Mighty JB’s ….Greatness
PURE,RAW, SUPER HEAVY FUNK!
The horn section holds that one note for 40 seconds. DAMN!! Best horn section ever. George Clinton would be nowhere without Bootsy teaching him the funk.
Agreed
Ridiculous
@@lcbutt Which part is ridiculous
Put this video in THE time capsule....This is a MUST SEE for the rest of the Galaxy! The energy in this clip is unbelievable
Brother James was 38 years old, when he cut this track,
but he moved with the grace of a man half his age.
In the 1960 and 70s, he led the best group of musicians in the
world. (They had to be, JB was a very tough taskmaster).
No Michael Jackson, Prince, Iggy and George Clinton without
Soul Brother No.1 Great stuff. James and Bobby represented a
golden period of black American music which no longer exists
anymore. His legacy has remained timeless.
Agreed! I was 4 years old in 1972. Black and Proud.
So so funky!!!
Totally agree Bobby Byrd was a great asset to James along with the JB’s 1970 - 73 was absolute golden era he also made a great instrumental album called “Ain’t it Funky” circa 1970 showing his prowess as a great jazz organist.
George Clinton had his own style of funk.
Mj studied him & became greater and invented himself .
Wow! This is shot to the arm....pure raw pure brilliance pure gold...JB&BB THE KINGS
The architect of soul Funk and Hip hop 💯
