The choreography is a combination of synchronized swimming and Penguin dance and I'm obsessed with this quirkiness dance.
HAHA! Justin, the creative director of this MV, said they know the song is sensual so he wanted to make the MV quirky and weird with a choreography that's totally different from their usual swag and intense moves. The choreography might seem funny but it's actually difficult to execute as it needs discipline, control and precision for it to look polished like they did. Otherwise it'll look stupid and messy. And to think that they planned and executed the MV and choreography just within 7 days! Please watch their behind the scenes vlog for this 😊

Fans liken their choreo to synchronize swimming. As you said, they're like in a swimming pool hence they are not smiling nor singing because they're supposed to be in water. SB19 is very creative when it comes to their mvs, they don't do the same thing twice.

Terry Zhong and Ian Asher are dj's and music producers. The choreo is intentionally querky and nerdy with poker face to shy away from the sensual lyrics. There is a behind the scene video where Justin explained the concept of the choreo and mv. I think they wanted to do something unique as they are capable of doing all genres. Display of versatility. 🤣 the behind the scenes for this MV has Justin talking about how he conceptualized it as the creative director. For sure, he wanted a contrast of the sensuality of the lyrics vs the weird, quirky dance moves…like you’re feeling so good that you’re out of your mind.
This is the whole idea /concept of Justin de Dios, the creative director of this MV.
Justin is the creative director of What, WYAT, Hanggang sa Huli. And the director of one or a couple of their online concerts during the Pandemic.
Justin probably got the idea for the choreo as an interpretation for the first stanza of the song. It says they try not to show it thus the poker faces, but their desires is overcoming their emotions thus the crazy dance. Though they are trying to play it cool but deep inside they are going crazy with desire and longing for their partner.

When I first heard it on Spotify, I thought we're gonna have another IWANTYOU choreo type. The lyrics is dirty. But then again, SB19 does things unpredictable things everytime. Justin is behind that quirky and fun MV concept and the dance choreo was made by Sir Jay, the choreographer of GENTO.

Apparently concept is swimming pool which evokes synchronised swimming and Justin wanted it to be quirky as you become silly when in love. It’s I WANT YOU PT2. Hi. I believe the lyrics connect to the video. My take is that MOONLIGHT is all about the surface vs. what it conceals underneath. 🎑
1. Justin starts with the line "It's in the moments when your face is next to mine but WE DON'T SHOW IT but we're thinking of the times". That's why they're all wearing vacant expressions. Those blank faces hide what they're actually thinking/feeling internally.😐💭🤪
2. Then Josh continues with the line "So PUT IT IN MOTION, my desires taking over my emotions". So even if they wear poker faces to mask what they're feeling and thinking, their desires are translated/put in motion -- that is, the dancing. Justin, who conceptualized the MV, says (in the behind-the-scenes vlog) that he thought that extreme pleasure/joy or overwhelming desire can cause one to go "out of control", thus it spills out of them as the "crazy"/quirky/weird choreography. 🕺
3. Later Pablo goes: "Show me what you do, I'll keep it SECRET." And then Stell: "We can't HIDE the feelings in between us, just you and me..." Again, the song's theme of the public exterior that we show the world vs. our private/secret selves that we only reveal to a few. 🤫
4. Justin also said that Moonlight sounds like a dance tune, but the lyrics are actually sensual. So right there, there's the theme of how things seem on the surface vs. what you find when you actually dive into it. 🤿
5. The eyeglasses are an easy metaphor for a mild-mannered front (a la Clark Kent) that disguises something powerful. 🤓
6. If you noticed, the video's scenes focus on the member whose voice we are currently hearing on the track -- but no one is ever actually moving their mouths. So it implies the song we're hearing is their internal thoughts, while the choreography is the only outward display of these thoughts. 😶🎶
7. The setting looks like they're at the bottom of a pool, and there are stairs leading up and out of it. Again, it fits with there being two levels -- how a person acts when they're restrained or confined, and the other when they emerge and act freely. 🏊♂
8. The moon is traditionally associated with crazy behavior -- like when people are described as "lunatic" or "moonstruck", but it's also associated with romance. I think the whole concept of the song, the lyrics, the visuals -- everything comes together to say these people in the video are (secretly) crazy in "love". 🌜🤍 You just need to look under the surface to see how it all fits!
