I was a kid in southern California back then. I know this is "In My Room" but something about the melody also catches the beautifully desolate sense of the beach on a cold winter's day.
as a life long BB fan, this is the best cover that I have heard...just beautiful...cant believe that I have never heard of him before just outstanding....I am 69 years old and I just got chills hearing this what can I say just OUTSTANDING
Just Beatiful , My dream is see you live im from to argentina, and of all of guitarrist that i hear Bill is my favorite he really capture me ,sorry my english
I am lifted to fond memories of an old station wagon, a static hampered car radio, and warm Summer nights. Bill Frisell and his friends capture the wistfulness perfectly. Thanks bathoshue, thanks.
Disclaimer... Before the musicians out there bury me.... 10 times everything I know about music can be hidden in a thimble.... Someone said he kind of blended two kinds of music jazz and surfer... I was thinking he had worked this towards what I would call "blues"... Long, sleepy, drooly kind of "put you to sleep blues" ...
Herr Lintig, I know this comment was 2 years ago but I am replying nonetheless, this is an amazingly well done cover of a Beach Boys song from the '60s; you are correct when you say it is surf. I'm apologetic if I come off as rude, I felt the need to inform you even though this doesn't really accomplish anything. Es tut mir leid.
Wel?,I thought ( again...) that I was a Tele Straty driver.....well, nope....not with Mr. Frisell on the scene.....back to the drawing board, I guess... Thank you Bill and band so much......
Any idea why he chooses this key (B?) to play in without adding capo to II? I see how he uses a harmonic in high E at 7 and that's nice, but is there a more fundamental reason? Trying to understand theory and I'm at the bottom rung, so bear with me please. Thanks.
James King Any good modulated delay pedal will get you that kind of sound, more or less. The idea is that the original signal from the guitar still comes through as is, but you add echoes where the pitch gets bent around, which happened naturally with old tape based echo machines because things just got out of spec after a while. Frisell is probably using his Line 6 Delay Modeler; personally I use a Subdecay EchoBox. (Honestly, half the time I just use some reverb and bend the neck around a bit.)
He's playing a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe or Deville ... wow really. Sounds great! Oh wait.. he's playing something else.. but he is using the HRD in stereo i think.. yep from the pedal board, two cords.. One to the HRD and the other ,, some other Fender.. Vibrolux?? Might be a Twin Reverb.. His tone is amazing
Another perfect performance done so tastefully. Bill brings out the delicious, pure Fender Telecaster tone so well. The entire band gave me goosebumps. But why oh why must Bill ruin the mood of so many otherwise flawless songs with those stupid annoying endings???
Not many guitarist can handle a Telecaster like Bill Frisell. His tone is classic Fender. An incredible artist.

Bill is incredible - for another beautiful homage, check out Danny Gatton's cover czcams.com/video/7IXSXW4_b5o/video.html
I’m 68 from NYC and Bill is a guy I’ve met and seen play since the 70’s, he’s a national treasure.
I feel like this is an homage to both Brian Wilson and to Danny Gatton’s wonderful take on In My Room, recorded in the early 90s.
I came back after 3 yrs and watched this again man it makes me cry what a beautiful song the dude makes that Telecaster sing for him .......
Just Beatiful , My dream is see you live im from to argentina, and of all of guitarrist that i hear Bill is my favorite he really capture me ,sorry my english
Su inlges esta mejor que mucho la gente, y mejor que mi espanol. Salud!

The sweetest thing.
Heartbreaking. Healing.
Thank you all.
Bill Frisell... There is no one like him.
It ain't how flash you are but how much love you give. Beautiful melodies beautifully interpreted. Feeling, passion, skill and class.
Bill Frisell is a special musician; I love his music almost all the time and it varies , his range is wide. I bet he's an excellent prose writer, too.
It is so beutyful. I listen to this every day.
there is beauty in the world.
Sweetest, most thought-provoking version I have ever heard.
Got to see this line-up "Guitar In The Space Age" album/tour in Seattle. Sooo very cool...
Fantastic version! What masterful tone❤🙏
ALL I HAVE RIGHT NOW ARE TEARS OF JOY .
Absolute perfection.
Simply perfect.
Beautiful interpretation of the Beach Boys
perfect way to recall memories of one's youth.....

Thank you Bill and band so much......
Omg
I wonder if Brian has heard this?
Does anyone know what session this is from? I really dig the subtle, easy-going calmness of it
Don´t forget Danny Gatton
Yes. His version of this tune is beautiful as well (and a little different).
Nice!
Just-So-Good!
There's Danny Gatton"s version, also.
ahhh that drummer is playing with julian lage trio now

👋
How is he getting those slightly detuned chords? Sounds like an old vhs, but in a good way.
James King Sounds like a chorus
Chris Liberti sounds even better than methenys stereo chorus in the 70s. Searching rig rundowns now

James King Besides any effects, he also subtly bends the neck a lot.
+James King I thought he was using the Bigsby really subtly but a closer look and I see he's not.

Paul Calugaru : I think it's a Fender Deluxe Reverb.
props to him... great sound.

I love Tony's Bass guitar. What is it? Gretsch?
Hofner Club bass.
"In my Father's house are many rooms;"
Is this an any record?
czcams.com/video/l71pbhqnvNM/video.html

speak for yourself, I love it
The ending was a segue into another song taken from a live performance
what is that???
beach boys version, a classic song from the beach boys, in my room composed by brian wilson in 1964
cristian faust one of the purest and most brilliant songs ever written and produced.
A bit flowery for my likening
Funny guy
This is what jazz musicians play when they realise no one wants to listen to jazz. That's fine by me. You gotta pay the mortgage.
