Based on author Justin Cronin’s best-selling trilogy of the same name, THE PASSAGE is an epic, character-driven thriller written by Liz Heldens (“Friday Night Lights”). Executive-produced by Emmy Award winner and Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Ridley Scott (“The Martian,” “Gladiator”) and writer/director Matt Reeves (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Cloverfield”), THE PASSAGE focuses on Project Noah, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease, but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race. When a young girl, AMY BELLAFONTE (Saniyya Sidney, “Fences,” “Hidden Figures”) is chosen to be a test subject, Federal Agent BRAD WOLGAST (Mark-Paul Gosselaar, “Pitch”) is the man who is tasked with bringing her to Project Noah. Fox once again manages to mess up a great book. In the book, she is in an orphanage then is taken to be experimented on then escapes and that is why they are after her. Maybe they just didn't show that part.
Dib Siverak I was wondering that too, I suspected there was something special about the kid that they either weren't showing us, or something that got lost in translation in the trailer versus the book. Hopefully they'll include a justification for it in the show, because other than that major plot hole the show looks really cool

Three years and I am still grumbling about the way this magnificent book was destroyed by someone who thought that they knew better than Justin Cronin what the story line should be. They changed the characters and messed around with the story. I have just started re reading the books to get rid of the bad taste the series left me with.

Read the books, they're amazing. "The Passage" is 850ish pages. I own the 2 sets of the trilogy. 1st Edition paperbacks, and a Box Set (to never touch and keep pristine)

How many books are in the series? Also is there a reason they need this specific kid? Cause logically they could just go grab another one. Right now it kinda reminds me a little of Believe but without the powers, mixed with "The Girl with all the Gifts"
It's sad to know that FOX canceled this series. They had such a good storyline going for them. All I really wanna know is, what did happen to Brad in the end?

It was supposed to be a short trilogy. It was supposed to take all the books and combine everything into a short trilogy. This was never supposed to be for the long haul.

No worries about that, there's zero (no pun intended) chances of a prime-time TV series turning a serious, R-rated, novel into anything good. This should have been on HBO or NetFlix.

Exactly. The thing about The Passage is that the story is a modern epic. The trailer honestly simply does not feel like an epic. I always have a special feelings towards The Passage as the very first modern post-apocalyptical novel read by me. I have fantasized numerus time about how the characters should look if made into a web series. Honestly I am hurt. :(

Potential Spoilers: I've read the entire series, and I am a little confused and disappointed by this trailer. In the book, Amy is given the virus, and Wolgast (Gossler) takes her after the virals escape not before. Others have echoed why are they chasing one kid, when there are many in foster care. In the book, Amy isn't special. She is just a kid with no parent who was left at a convent. She only becomes special after being given the virus to see how it would affect a child. They seem to have gotten rid of some characters (i.e. Sister Lacy). I could be wrong. It is only a trailer, but I am not optimistic. Should be on FX not Fox. It would have a greater chance of survival. This series lends itself well to a television. If done right, it could be very good. I wonder if they'll have the budget for the wasteland of the future though. Most of the series is takes place after the virals decimate the human population. Only the beginnings of book one and book two delve into the present day and the fall of mankind. Honestly, this would be better on HBO as a replacement for Game of Thrones. They know how to world build on a budget. When I think of Fox, I picture Wayne Manor (Gotham) with two rooms (sitting room with fireplace and small Kitchen). This series needs desolation and future compounds a la Road Warrior.

AND, it looks like they are suggesting there is some kind of OTHER viral outbreak that predates the virals escaping from the lab - in the book the outbreak was due to their virals infected with the vampire bat virus escaping...

For those of you comparing this to The Last of Us, allow me to let you in on a little secret. The Wolgast/Amy story line is a small part of the books. Very small. Yes, maybe FOX will make it more significant than it was but if you haven't read the books, calm down. This is nothing like that.

Ah, people. If you're so worried about this being cancelled, just read the books. They are absolute masterpieces. This series on the other hand looks pretty bad, especially compared to the book. A lot of things have been changed for this series. What bothers me most is the fact that they turned Babcock into a woman. WHY!? A beautiful woman even, who still looks stunning when she's all pale, full of scary veins, and smeared with blood!! Babcock was the very first viral to be created by the project and already COMPLETELY TRANSFORMED when Wolgast was going around the USA to pick up Amy. I really hope this beautiful Miss America Babcock will still undergo a very dramatic change. The virals are not supposed to look like human beings at all.
correct, the virals are bat like in their appearance as the virus originated from bats and the book describes the original twelve viral's hanging upside down in their cells.

Fox shouldn't have made this, any prime time TV based based show is going to dumb down the intellect of the story for the average tv viewer whose attention span can’t handle anything. I can’t imagine what sort light-hearted garbage they will turn this into. HBO or Netflix should have produced this. This book read like a rated R movie. To see it on prime time TV might be a bit disappointing in my mind, because I feel like the brutality in the book, which struck the most fear in its readers, will be missed.
I'd be okay with them recasting it too if they made another one yk, I want it in its full imaginative glory straight from the book

Omg this show is soo freaking good. I am already a Mark paul fan i met him in Oklahoma city when i was a kid and he was doing saved by the bell. Little amy bellafonte is so awesome she draws u in. And Shauna Babcock is a bad ass to say the least. Love this show.

It's a shell of the real story. Right of the bat they removed Peter and Lish from the story. That tells you everything you need to know. It's reduced and hacked up for a network audience; they've essentially taken nothing from the books but the title and a reimagining of a piece of a story line. I have no idea why Fox even bought the rights.

Looks quite close to the opening of The Passage to me. As in, if I saw it with no title and the names bleeped out, I would still know what it was supposed to be. You want something that trades on the title alone, think of World War Z. I genuinely didn't know what that was a trailer for until the title screen came up at the end.

Books were absolutely amazing, but this trailer is disappointing. Especially given how the 'monsters' look.
I was bitterly disappointed and underwhelmed when we caught our first glimpse of a viral. For me it all went down here after that.. they're supposed to be hulking great animals not pretty blonde girls and pale faced men with too many veins. Babcock was getting on for the size of a pick up truck.. and they give us this!

The trailer already shows me that they've fucked up the story. I hate the tone, too; reminiscent of something one would see on The CW. If the rights to the book went to Amazon, Netflix, or HBO, we'd be seeing a very different trailer. Also, because this is airing on Fox, expect it to not last more than 1 season.

The generation of instant gratification, jumping to conclusions from a three min trailer. This show is based on a Trilogy of books that are amazing with a complex storyline. There's alot more to the story than this trailer.
