  • After a spinal cord injury, quads and paras need to figure out how to live life by doing activities of daily living (ADLs). Getting dressed is one of those things. Although it took me years, I finally learned how I could get dressed by myself as a C6-7 ASIA A quadriplegic. I hope this video is helpful to others with new spinal cord injuries, as well as their occupational and physical therapists, parents, and caregivers.

Hi, well this video popped up today, I see it’s new, and I just had to write to say how it reminded me of a girl I dated for I guess almost 2 years in college, the way you use your hands just reminded me so much of her. I must say you have great core strength to do that, you say you are a C6-7 and my friend was a C5 so I guess that is why, she was not able to dress herself or grab things as well as you do so that was a job that gladly fell to me when I was there, so just a quick note to say thanks for bringing me some happy memories.

I am a t4 injury and my question for you is do you use the bathroom before you get your clothes on or after because I wait to get my clothes on when I get on my toilet and for 9 years of doing this my shoulders are killing me now

I have had the Mitrofanoff surgery which allows me to cath through a small stoma in my belly. It makes life so much easier! Here’s an article about the procedure: jennysmithrollson.com/from-foley-to-freedom-my-experience-with-the-mitrofanoff-procedure/

Do you have any spasticity with your SCI or is it totally flaccid?

I had severe spasticity before I got a baclofen pump. The pump changed everything for me. Here's an article on my experience with spasms and the baclofen pump. jennysmithrollson.com/what-freed-me-from-the-prison-of-spasticity/

Why are you wearing these long socks?

They are compression socks and minimize swelling. Plus my legs are always cold, especially in the winter, so I try to keep my legs as warm as possible.
