@Forza223 Bowe How did you arrange a cab ride? Not necessarily supervised driving, but how did you arrange it? I've sent a letter to TfL customer services and I'm crossing my fingers. Any advice from anybody would be great! :)
I like it how before Bank station there are a lot of curves on the track that slowly seem to get bigger, curve by curve before coming out into the station which has a massive curve, leaving a bigger gap than usual between the train and the platform edge. Just like embankment station.
It is I remember about quite about 7-9 years ago for a while when I was about 5 - 8 I used to have appointments at Moorfields Eye Hospital in Old Street and I used to go up there on a day off school, with my mum and we used to take the tube and change from the Central line to the Northern line at Bank. I also remember on the eastbound platform there used to be an announcement of a woman who used to say "mind the gap" on the platform. Nowadays a different recording is used. I wonder what happened to her recording and if it is still used somewhere on London Underground. Anyway, this was how my love for the tube began
Evan Slater I really liked that too with it when I was a kid it felt so huge the gap and I’d jump off! I wonder what also happened to that lady too who did the announcements
Is a good video, I loved the question about why the train wobbles, the explanation was nice, the honest truth would be that the 92 stock is knackered and never gave a smooth ride 😉
The track layout between sheperds bush and north acton is so bizzare it looks as if it emerges from the tunnel on the wrong side of track arriving into white city
Concerned that when asked if it picks up voice or just video and you stated that it won't pick up much voice. It's picked up practically the full Convo. Had the driver been made aware of this before the video was posted? Ain't coming into one of my cabs.
I've done the entire central line from West Ruislip to Epping and it was a nice trip going through the CountrySide. How did you get to ride in the cab?
Just to be sure of what I am watching. Is the train a 1992-built train or did you shoot the video back in 1992? Either way, very good cab ride video of the Central line. Love those cab ride videos of the London Underground. Greetings from Schiedam, Holland.

Is it hard to learn to drive a tube train, because I’m thinking of changing my career, wow, this tube line is my old line, I was born in Walthamstow 1983, moved to Leyton in May 1984, I’ve travelling on the central line since 1984 when I was baby and I got used to the Central line than Victoria line, I left Walthamstow very early when I was young, but I got used to Central line, but now I find it boring now, It feels like it’s slow, because of the journey, but now I got my own flat in Custom house and use the Jubliee line via Canning Town, but I’ve travelling on the tube for 35 years, I would go to west end, South West, North London and other part of London a lot in the 80’s, I know the those areas more than the opposite direction, but now I’ve seen this video, it’s good
The training is intense from what I recall from friends who are operators. I think there’s 4 months of training and the exams are rigorous. A good few never make it after the introductory exam.
On earlier tube maps when the line was being extended up to West Ruislip, there was originally plans to extend the line two stops up to Denham Station, however due to the War this was cut back to West Ruislip, the through route at the end may be a relic of the cancelled plans I assume.
I think NYC (Native here) trains are limited to 45 MPH. I do not know about LA but I know Washington D.C. trains can hit 90 on the surface tracks. Back in 1980 I was able to see the controls and they had three readouts: white was the actual speed, green was the recommended set speed and red was "danger", I assumed (derailment above that speed?). The Red line in Maryland going to Shady Grove had all three at 90. 50-55 was top for underground. The Chicago Els would be good competition for these trains. I used www.urbanrail.net/ to follow this train along its route: they have ALL the lines in the world presently running.
No they don’t, all lines pretty much operate different stock and even if some lines operate the same stock the driver will only train for one line due to the fact the each line have their own challenges. Hope that explains a bit 👍
Terrible goings on inside this cab, the driver being distracted by a fellow holding him in conversation when the driver should be fully concentrating on his driving and observation of track and signals. You would not get away with this type of antics if you were a main line driver driving on the National Network. Here you would be considered to be a driver at risk hence stood down from the job.
This train has is fully ato its run by its self. Driver only has to open the door at stations and close it. So he is not being distracted or anything mate.
