    3:28 as a former dump truck broker who had drivers, this would be a must! This would have saved me thousands and thousands of dollars in labor and hydraulic pump costs as beginning drivers forget to turn off their PTO leaving the job site. It’s also very dangerous for overhead obstacles. Great idea that should come standard with all new pumps. Also, an overall great explanation of how your hydraulic system works. This video should come standard with taking your DMV test for driving air brake vehicles that have hydraulics.

    Thanks for the video. I'm driving a Western Star 4900 offroad and trying to familiarize myself with some of this so if I find myself in an situation I can potentially fix it myself instead of waiting an hour or two for my mechanic to come to me. One issue that is common with offroad hauling is mud clogging the plunger and not letting the bed raise. I drove a Mack RD for a while when I was 22, but I quit driving trucks for a few years and now that I'm starting back I'm trying to remember this all.

      You dont want to leave the bed way up because it exposses the dump cylynder to the elements and it can become tarnished or rust (the chrome part of the dump cylinder). Dump truck hydralic hoists are not the same as heavy equipment hoist that are ment to get wet. Raising it 6" to 12" to aviod puddling in the bed is good.

    Thanks for your video. It's hard to find a video the way you explain it. I live in Denver. Colorado. I bought a 1993 Peterbilt 379 dump truck a few months ago and fixing and replacing parts here and there. I need your advise about my pto and hydraulic pump. My pto is air controlled. No issues when I rise the bed, but when I try to lower it I need to move the pto knob almost til the other end for the bed to start lowering down, but my concern is that it slam and shake the whole cab. I know it's not right. Could you please tell me what' you think could be wrong? Thanks in advance.Renzo

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 3 lety +1

      when you say "pto knob to the other end" I think you may be referring to the air control that raises and lower the bed, which is actually the pump control. the air control are typically that way where is all the up or alll the way down, to go down slow you need to open and close the pump valve. A different valve may work easier, if the valve is really old it may be time to clean or replace it, a few drops of the Bendix oil in the line can help too.

I wish I could send you a video that it will explain better what is happening with my truck. When the bed is all the way up and I move my pump controller to lower the bed the two top cylinder sections collapse really fast shaking the cab and then from the third section down start coming down slowly.

    I got a IHC roadranger trans. Single line for a Pratt dump chassis.
    Dump will go up but not down.
    Is the pressure release valve hard to replace?

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 4 lety

      Their in no pressure relief valve on most dump truck pump set ups. I would start with check the adjustment of the tipping valve.

    I have and automatic transmission Eaton fuller will that Muncie fit and how much should I shim it?

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 4 lety

      you always have to measure each transmission to see what thickness of shims are needed. they all vary a little.

      Buy a Chelsea 489 PTO instead. One supplied gasket is only needed for proper backlash.

    What type of hydraulic fluid do I use for my PTO? I have a 1998 Chevy C6500 rollback tow truck with a 6 spd manual tranny. I assume the large tank just between the frame rails is for that hydraulic fluid, yes?

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 3 lety

      Any fluid should work, because its a low flow system, but mixing different fluids can be a problems and cause foaming.

    • @rayr1444
      @rayr1444 Před 9 měsíci

      The PTO is just a gearbox mounted to the tranny, lubed by the transmission. The hyd pump uses hydraulic fluid. Use AW32.

    How do you make the pump go just a lil faster on a system with air lines not cable

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 4 lety

      Pump should go faster when you throttle up the truck with the gas pedal. you can also check that you have spec'ed the right size hydraulic lines.

      Buy a faster ratio PTO, or, give it the gas.

      Replace the air switch. That is where the exhaust is.

      Not sure what air value is? You mean valve? check the air pressure, may not be high enough.

    awesome video. My air controlled PTO is sticking on. I have to go under the truck and hit the air control unit (with the airline going to it) with a hammer to get PTO to disengage. Any suggestions

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 4 lety

      You can try putting a few drops or air valve oil, which all the air valves on the truck need once a year or so. Or replay the valve and remember to oil.

    What would cause the bed to go up while in the hold position. On a 3 line system with sleeve installed.

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 4 lety

      The dump cable is not properly adjusted or the seals in the dump valve are going out.

      Look for dirt or stones stuck near the rear of the spool that do not allow full shifting of the spool.

    • @TruxasSales
      @TruxasSales  Před 4 lety +1

      Not sure, but could be broken internally, or some of the seals have become unseated and are jamming it.
