I hope you enjoyed the video! I will be away on holiday in the next six weeks so there won't be any new videos in that timeframe. Until then!

I've been brewing my coffee with Gabi Master A daily for the past three months. One note that I can add based on my experience is that you can somehow control the shower's flow rate with different number of pours and the time between pours.
Here are some flow rate variation example:
    - Fastest: 180gr in single pour
    - Moderate: 60gr x 3, 20s between pours
    - Slowest: 36gr x 5, 40s between pours
This way, we can lower the amount of water pooling above the coffee bed to reduce water bypass without changing the grind size.

One trick with the gabi to really get the nuance of notes etc is rotating the cone part where you pour like a quarter to half inch every 5 or 10 seconds. Makes a big difference try it

As always Carl, a thoughtful, balanced and well presented brewer assessment, with no added frippery. Well done. I may just invest in the Gabi. I do like the idea of switching between agitation/non-agitation, to suit any particular coffee. Great point. Have a great holiday. Plenty time to contemplate some more issues for your next set of presentations...in between relaxing and coffee drinking, of course... 😄🏝☕

Great video Carl, I think the Gabi brewer will be on my list as it seems to offer something a bit different to my other brewers. Have a great holiday, it would be good if you could post a holiday review video when you get back, such as what you brewed while you were away and if you found any good coffee shops whilst you were there.

Just made my first cup with Gabi (stacked on top of V60 01). Lychee notes stronger than ever but also some bitterness. Overall not bad for the first go! Hopefully with a few tweaks I'll have another simple and consistent brewing method in the arsenal.

Great review, and I'll definitely need to try your recipe. I bought one of these after watching April Coffee's video on it. Liked the fact that it can take away a lot of variability during testing (e.g. different beans or roasts). Also it seems to provide a lot of versatility.
By the way, have you tried any of the bypass recipes?

Thanks Carl: looks interesting. Checking online it suggests the capacity of the top piece is 150 ml, so are you just using a steady pour topping it up as it drains? I’ve also seen reports online of it developing cracks out of the blue while being used, which doesn’t sound great ….

    • @coffeewithcarl1779
      @coffeewithcarl1779  Před 3 lety +1

One continuous slow pour topping it up as it drains. Cracks shouldn't be a problem if you just preheat. Thank you for watching!

I have. If used correctly, the results are phenomenal. Very easy to get over extracted notes with it, as water drips and splashes. You can easily get over extraction from the bed's surface. So a coarse grind is very important.
Pros: dual flow zones for more control.
Cons: not even water distribution is a potential risk if not used properly
As a comparison: Gabi Master B is easier to use and fits on top of many other brewers (even smaller ones)
Please keep in mind the Hario drip assist is designed to fit on top of size #02 V60 ONLY. Maybe on top of many other cone drippers of this size.
      *Not recommended for flat bottoms.

I honestly love the inconsistency, and even the occasional shitty cup, so this product is gonna be a no for me.
Great video tho. I like the new style of talking to the camera, makes the videos more personal.
