Hi, i'm from Sweden and i have 3 rats, two 5 months girls, and i recently picked up a 9 months boy who are
castrated. He's moving in to my girls soon, but is now under isolation. My girls are also so hyper, they are in the "popcorn" age as some would call it, but my little boy is sooo soo soo cuddly and laid back, and i just love him so much. (I love the girls to, of course.)

I've had rats until like 3 years ago and I somehow came to watching your video. Now I miss them. Pet rats were the greatest joy in my school life even though I didn't even have problems. My girls were so affectionate, I really miss them. 🥺❤

Hey Lauren. Great video :) I’m 24 and only just got my first pet rat. I am getting a second one very soon but due to only one being available.. I had to stick with the one to start. Also I hope u have a great pride this year if you are able to celebrate in what ever way you can.. I am travelling to Bristol pride (bout an hour and half on the train) this July and will be the 1st time I have been knowing where I fit .. I’ve always known I was gay but I always felt there was something more.. this past year abs set of constant U.K. lockdowns has helped me to figure out I am nonbinary (and still gay) X

I completely agree. Know rats before getting one. I feel bad that my first rat Constance was on her own, but she had me and my mom, and Connie got really close to me. But I'd rather sacrifice that closeness so that rats can have contact with some of their own kind. Problem is, I kept hamsters before rats and I assumed they were the same and needed to be on their own. NOT true.
Rats are amazing :) i started off with two sisters, Fenna and Lola, Lola got a tumor so i got two extra babies which i named Marcy and Willow so Fenna would not be lonely when it was time for Lola to go (it wasn't possible to safely remove her tumor) so i had to let Lola put down a few weeks ago due to a pretty nasty tumor (it was a very sad experience and my 3 remaining rats were very depressed for quite a while when that happened, which proves that rats aren't cold, careless creatures :c ) and Fenna died a few days ago on her second birthday due to old age... (at least thats what i think, she didn't truly seem sick or anything) now only Marcy and Willow are left. So whoever is reading this, make sure you give your rat a great time because their life is already so short. ps. your rats are absolutely adorable.
Aww I'm very sorry to hear about Lola and FEnna, I hope you're doing okay! By the sounds of it, you are a good rat owner and Im sure you gave both the best life you possibly could. Im sure they'd be very grateful to have had you. xx

I've once rescued a feeder rat pup from a reptile store and raised her up by feeding her baby formula. She's so affectionate and behave like a beloved puppy! She never bite even when i accidently made her bleed and painful by incautious nail triming. Even dogs may bite their oweners when being hurt, yet my rat never bite me.

+Unicorn_Fantasty798 exactly, fleece material linings for the cages and for hammocks is so much better than wood shavings or hard surfaces. Easier to clean, prevents a lot of diseases!
Decades ago, I found an infant rat on the highway and rescued it, not even knowing what it was. I went to a wildlife rehab specialist and she told me "it's a rat". But he hadn't even opened his eyes! I cared for it through adulthood, and like you, he climbed on my shoulders and came when I called and was as clean as a cat!
But you said not to get a rat from a pet shop. You don't often find rat babies on major highways, but where do you suggest getting another one? I miss mine, even though I have, and have had, dogs and cats.

Elizabeth Storm I'm getting mine from a breeder next Friday, I just googled pet rats for sale and went on several different sites until I found a good breeder, you can also rescue them but I'm not sure how to do that
Aw that is such a cute story omg :') Your rat must have been truly blessed by you.
Pet shops aren't the best as they generally don't know enough about rats and keep them in breeding tubs out the back with wood shavings. The mumma rats usually have respiratory infections and thus the babies do. They also generally breed them too young due to the demand so the mumma is too young and shouldnt be having babies.
Don't get me wrong, my first 2 rats were from a pet shop and she turned out to be the sweetest rat, she would give me kisses, but she did come with lice and her sister died within 1 month of owning her due to respiratory infection :(
I would suggest having a look on different sites. Here in Aus I used gumtree.com to find a decent breeder who knew how to properly look after rats. I would also suggest adopting if possible too. Places like RSPCA in Aus have a section on their website where you can adopt from.

Here in Aus, the RSPCA is probably the place you can adopt rats from easily. I would suggest looking at the biggest rescue websites/organisations in your country and seeing if they have any rats for adoption :)

Rats are super smart, and have such personalities! In fact, rats have been found to have 'metacognition,' which means they are able to analyze their own knowledge and decide if they are up to a given task. We love our rats!

Yes, I have had rats as pets for a few years now. My very 1st one was just a rescue..... But when I saw for myself what a GREAT pet actually WAS, I just fell in love !!! NOW I ALWAYS keep ratties as pets...... After one dies, I just get another. They are BETTER than MOST OTHER TYPES OF PETS..... You can snuggle with them FAR more, far better.......They love to ride around inside your shirt, or on your shoulders........ And they are SO SO SO affectionate & loving !!! So It's VERY REWARDING !!!

They are adorable. I had a bunch of rodents growing up, but we were never allowed rats. Once my older brother brought home a white rat named mailbox. My mom went to a hotel until he took it out of the house xD

Just watching this channel for the first time. I started watching videos about pet rats a few months ago, after I couldn't find any guinea pig videos uploaded, and I love them! I have 6 piggies now, and I am a piggy lover, however after seeing people with their pet rats, I think they're adorable, fun and smart animals, and make great pets! My piggies take so much of my time, but in the future rats are first on my list of pets! Loved the video even though this is quite awhile after.

I'm getting rats soon! My mom is fostering them for now (they're rescues), and she's going to send them out to me in January! I just finished up setting up the cage and I'm really excited. So far the three girls are Sappho, Sunny, and Sybil. The cage is big enough to fit 12 though so I'm considering maybe getting some from the SPCA in the future too. I think they'll be cool additions to my vlogs as well. :3

But basically in a nutshell, you get them a litter tray and put it in the spot where they normally go to the toilet and then if they poop in other places, collect it and put it in the tray and they should start using it. :)
My rats learned how to come when called on their own. One of them learned how to steal treats though...

I have two boys and I love them so much. They're the best pets in the world and they bring me so much joy. I was actually severely depressed when I got them and they gave me a reason to get out of bed and they need me and it made me feel so much better to the point that I no longer need medication. Mine spin and come to their names. They're little trained and they fetch. They're just amazing. Anyone who's on the fence about getting rattie babies you should totally get them!

I had 2 boys that hated other rats so they ended up being solo boys. I think most rats get along but some only get along with certain rats or not any other rat. Also, some boys may get along while young but then get agro with each other when older.

+Ericka Garcia no, I didn't spay them. I also had three girls before clove and Lola and I didn't spay them either. One of my girls started to develop some near the end of her life but they were tiny and she was well over 2 years old. You don't have to say them, spaying does help but I decided not to say my girls. I'm willing to fork out the money for survey if they ever get tumors though. Great to see another Aussie! I'm in South Australia myself. You have some beautiful looking rats. I do admit that I have picked up a rat by it's tail. Though it was a wild rat that had got into my home. A live wild rat. I had no choice because I didn't want to be bitten! My parents were trying to catch it in the hallway and I could hear the screams and commotion through the door - it sounded quite funny. Then the rat crawled underneath the door into the living room where I was and I picked it up by the tail and released it outside. A few days later, the very same rat was back inside the house - in the bathroom. Once again, I picked it up by the tail and took it outside. One day, I hope to get pet rats and I will definitely not be picking them up by their tails!

I love rats so much my rat is getting old and starting to lose her ability to walk with her back legs so sad she is only 2 years old. They just don't last long enough :(

+The slime expert - rats cost a whole lot of money to take proper care of. Please only get rats if you have a lot of money saved up for them, and a lot of time to care for them, especially when they are old and need help. A huge rat cage is necessary. Even the largest cages aren't really big enough for rats. They are small animals, but need a lot of space to play! I barricaded my living room and covered it in fleece blankets, box houses and toys and stuff for my ratties so they could go in and out of their cage as they like. But I am also a single person living in an apartment. I love rats too, but after my last ones died this past winter, I didn't rescue any more because I spent my life savings on their medical bills and wasn't able to leave town for a few years. Since I can't afford to care for rats now, I'm not getting any more.

I love when people make meet my rat videos.. a friend of mine & I have a small closed rattery where we strive to make wonderful pets for people... We have somewhere around 25 currently, lots of time and effort but very worth it! We love all our rat babies (-:

I’m getting rats tomorrow. I have had mice for more than a year and I love rodents so much! After having mice, the family have finally been convinced that rats might not be too awful. They’re still scared of them, but they don’t mind seeing the mice anymore and they don’t mind having them in the house. It’s been so rewarding having mice, and I can’t wait to have a bigger, more cuddly version. I’m getting boys because I know that a lot of them are unwanted by pet buyers. I’d like some really big ugly boys to lay with me, too, over zippy girls. It’s so exciting!

I loved your video and it's so true. Recently I've been thinking of getting rats again because I miss having them so much, males do smell a bit more if their cage isn't cleaned but a simple bath with rodent shampoo fixes it it worked with my two males. Also, I love your planted pot idea.
I'm a new rat owner; I had six, but one passed away recently. They are very sweet, affectionate pets. Thank you for taking the time to make a positive video about them. It's hard to convince someone who has never owned a pet rat how great they are. ^^

My last rat actually lived over 4 years! Blind, deaf, and had cancer. She was an iron rat! But she was perfectly happy and got around fine!
