The New Best Catcher in Baseball? (Patrick Bailey 2023)

- If you didn't know him before this year, now you do. "Some guy named Patrick Bailey" came up in mid-May after a grand total of 28 career games at AA/AAA.
He immediately made an impact, coming through with clutch hits left and right. Even more impressively - he looked like a veteran Gold Glove guy behind the dish on day 1.
He quickly established himself as arguably the best defensive catcher in baseball. He led the majors in catcher framing runs, strike rate %, while ranking in the top 1-3 in terms of pop time, caught-stealing rates, and I'm sure a million other defensive categories.
A highlight reel of his defensive plays is a showstopper - he ended two games with putouts - one a runner tossed out at second and one a runner picked off of First Base. He is a huge fan favorite already,
He deserved a gold glove
If he plays like this in the 2024 season then absolute no doubt about it. He didn't play enough in '23, as he was just barely called up for about 60-80 games.
