    The option I chose is to get the Mazda CX-30 non-turbo model for $25,000 out the door. I saved a bunch of money, and 191 horsepower is plenty for this type of vehicle.

      Reasonable concerns. There’s resale as well to think of. That Hornet is expensive and that makes the cost of depreciation painful,,,,. I’m thinking the Mazda will retain more resale.

      @@MeliorIlle I've owned(and still own one) a Dodge(Challenger Hellcat) and Chrysler(300 SRT) product for the past 10 years and coming up on 7 years with a Mazda(current gen CX-9). Outside of a rear 02 sensor failure on the Hellcat (a $90 part I changed myself in 20 minutes) all of these vehicles have been flawless. The Mazda for sure is in another league for body panel fit and paint consistency(my biggest complaint with the Hellcat). We have a Signature so the interior design is quit nice as well, but from a reliability standpoint anything out of Dodge/Chrysler running on the LD or LA platforms(their RWD vehicles with ZF 8 Speed trans) are very reliable. The things that matter most are exceptional...engines, transmissions...and they nail the infotainment better than anyone including Mazda who are only so-so, probably my biggest complaint with the CX-9 is the infotainment. It will randomly reboot, randomly stop working through bluetooth until you shot off the vehicle and restart it, and its a bit slow to boot. My worry with the Hornet is its 100% an Alfa Romeo. Dodge probably doesn't put their logo on it just in case is has classic Alpha Romero issues...they don't want to know its a Dodge for that reason. Personally I love many aspects of the Alpha's but they got out of the gate on a bad start when the brand was reintroduced to the U.S. market with electronic gremlin issues being the main culprit, and those are very hard to diagnose and fix. I will agree if you are having a hard time deciding between a Mazda or a Dodge its probably because until the Hornet there wasn't much you would cross shop since their line up only consisted of Challenger, Charger and Durango...and not many people are going to cross shop a CX-9 vs. Durango. The Durango is much larger(interior space), has a V8 option and real towing in a totally different league and there is nothing in Mazda's lineup that you would cross shop with a Challenger or Charger(no one is cross shopping a Mazda 6 and a Charger). Dodge quality today is quite good. Alpha Romero scares me a bit. Time will tell.

Idk why I said that now tbh it didn’t make much sense. I also think that the Hornet will be pretty good in terms of reliability. I’ve driven both of these cars and they’re both great in different ways. I like the looks of the Dodge a bit more honestly however the CX-30 is also a looker. I don’t think the Mazdas quality is better but rather different. The Dodge has a solid interior and a huge touch screen that seems to be lacking in the CX-30. Now in the time I had the CX-30 the drop charger didn’t work at all and the Bose stereo would go silent for no reason at all. However the Hornet every once in awhile would display a message on the gauges that would disappear so fast I had no idea what it said. Regardless these are very nice car’s and both would be great cruisers for anyone.

    You mentioned the high altitude having issue with the performance output. Both engines are turbocharged and both have electronic fuel injection which compensates for the altitude. I don’t think there would be a big difference in performance if any. You mentioned the Dodge doesn’t have any Dodge signage on the car anywhere except the two red bars,and I agree. I did notice when you started the Hornet up, the screen did display Dodge there. I like the look of the Hornet better than the Mazda. I also like the display surface better in the Hornet compared to the Mazda. Performance is pretty close in both. The Hornet is $3000.00 more which is quite a lot. I would have to drive both before making my decision as to which I’d choose, probably neither though. By the way, STOP means STOP not almost. Those early transmissions lasted longer because they weren't shifting as often as the 71 transmission. Fast forward to today transmissions. Those 10 speeds are shifting a bazillion times more than a 6 speed thus less durable overall. Compare the 10speed to the 3speed. Wow! Imagine all those extra mechanical cycles! It does help fuel mileage but at the cost of longevity.

If the average vehicle is worth half of its sticker value and a Manufacturer offers twenty percent off, that means that it has to come from somewhere and its the resale value. This goes for long term zero percent rates... if a new dodge is less to purchase than a two year old dodge, who will buy the used one? Short term buyers think discounts are great.... up to the point they go to trade their trash in....

      @@marcymcsheehan3579 That's one side of the coin, what about the other side. The person who waits and buys the Dodge at a 20% discount. If you do the math (using your #'s ) for the Mazda and Dodge at the end of 5 years, the Mazda owner will have lost an additional 1,000 dollars. You could argue that Mazda would retain slightly above the 50% of its value and Dodge slightly below 50%, then that would make both cars with roughly the same depreciation . Again you could argue LOL the cost of repairs out of warranty, so both car's mileage would be roughly between 36,001 miles and 75,000 miles.(15K miles/yr x 5 yrs). The odds that both cars are going to have an expensive repair are very low with Mazda being even lower. For me, it's not enough money difference to sway me from one car to the other, also I never keep a car longer than 4 years so reliability is a non-issue. ( for every comment saying Dodge will break down before 75,000 miles there's one Kia/Hyundai with an engine on fire)

    Felt like the reviewer was a bit biased towards the Mazda, tbh.

    • @ShadyVibes
      @ShadyVibes Před rokem +1

      Felt pretty fair. He stated several dislikes/likes for both vehicles as far as equipment goes and left it up to the viewer to decide (he did not state which he would choose). The Mazda has better interior materials, build quality, sunroof, heads-up display for 37k. The Dodge has better tech, rear seat accommodations, and is quicker....but its also 40k so there's a big factor for people in this market (and that one's not even a GT Plus or R/T yet)
      For Driving dynamics, he stated that the Mazda has much better feel (more mechanical and connected) and you sit lower down so you get a more sports car like drive. He said you sit up higher in the Dodge like you're in an actual SUV which isn't as car-like. And several other news reports have stated that the steering feel is a bit overassisted in the Hornet...whereas the Mazda's is heavier, more precise, with just some dead on-center feel.
      Overall, if you're really into screen tech and 0.2sec bragging rights then you should go for the Hornet. But....if build quality, reliability, features (sunroof, HUD), and driving dynamics are you're priority then the Mazda would be an good choice and you would save 3k in the process 🤷‍♂

    • @vg4902

      The Mazda 3, CX30, and CX50 all share the same torsion beam rear suspension... since they're all based on the Mazda 3. The Hornet has fully independent front and rear.
