  • On this episode of Trout Towns, were in Frederick Maryland - your homebase to visit some of the excellent freestone streams emanating from the Catoctin Mountains and less than an hour away from one of the MD’s finest tailwater fisheries.
First up on this trip will be to the Catoctin Mountains, well known as the home of Camp David, but also the historically significant Big Hunting Creek as well as lesser known Catoctin freestone streams.
We’ll then explore the relatively large, fertile, and altogether rugged tailwater fishery known as the Gunpowder River. With a population of naturally reproducing wild brown trout and abundant public access, this stream (along with its tributaries) are a must visit fly fishing stream in the mid-Atlantic Region.
While in town, we’ll explore Frederick’s rich historical past, with contributions to the colonial, civil war, and late 19th century periods. Frederick was also at the intersection of National Roads, canals, and railroads during the great building of the American republic.
We’ll also highlight some of Frederick’s well preserved and expansive historic architecture. Ranging from Colonial Revival and Gothic, to Richardsonian Romanesque and Queen Anne - this town is well worth a stop for the great American walking tour.
Please join me today as we fish, explore, and embrace our very next Trout Town in Frederick Maryland.
