Trena refreshes a bedroom set that is in great condition but a little dated looking. - Jak na to + styl
It did kinda hurt my heart to see all that beautiful wood get painted over. But of course you did a wonderful job and you made it look as good as it possibly could. Keep up the great work!
i understand, but thanks for watching and be comforted knowing they are sealed and ready for an easy refinish anytime.
I guess the owner is entitled to choose paint but it's not a good look for me
Those look so much like Roxton Furniture. They look so much like the ones we have in our bedroom for that last 50 years. You give me some ideas to modernize ours to. Thank you very much. 😊😊
It was a relief hearing someone on youtube give actual good advice on finishes. Water-based products can be great for some things but solvent-based finishes are just better in general for durability and adhesion. Using water-based if the customer requests it and understands the downsides or if it's for personal use is totally fine but when you're producing products for customers one of the worst things is having to go back to a customer and pick up a piece that the finish failed on and restart the entire process.
Exactly!! Cheers!
I concur water-based paint, any water-based paint is going to wear to over half the life span solvent-based paints in my experiences
@@johnsfurniturerepair
@@johnsfurniturerepair they are engineering some amazing water-born pre-cat coatings these days
@@davebryant8050 Yes she only uses the best of the best available. I don't think those products are meant to last, that's the gag. A real shame to put that junk on finely made furniture made with integrity. On the bright side: it is so easy to get it off and often protects the wood from damage.
The more I watch your work , the more amazing I see you are 👍❤️
Thankyou Richard!
Never would have occurred to me to modernize dated furniture style… but super-cool way to keep a set with emotional attachment yet fit it into more current styling - Kudos!
And of course high-end-factory excellent because you can and you care.
John’s Furniture Repair does more than repair. A makeover extraordinaire 👍👍😎
Thanks Dan
Beautiful work as always, great looking bases that you made as well. The drawer fronts are not my cup of tea, and neither is the choice of painting such beautiful wood. But at least you gave this furniture set a new life. I’m loving the fact that you now upload more often :) you are spoiling us lol
lol, gotta give my wonderful viewers what they want. thanks for watching
The skill set required to be able to pull off this kind of work is phenomenal, this lady's work is of the very highest standards and as a carpenter myself appreciate every single second of effort you put into all of your projects
Thankyou!
I so enjoy watching spray painting as it’s a dance, my brother has done things like building furniture and has spray painted his 1938 Aruban. Watching him paint was like watching a dance, he told me he used to go dancing and this helped learn to spray paint.
Lol yep
I never thought of seriously painting wood furniture until I saw it done right on your videos. We had a couple of the Ikea 8' floating shelves that I was ready to throw away because we had changed the flooring, wall color, woodwork and decor in the room they are in. Basically, the wood just didn't look right with all the new stuff. I saw the video where you painted some furniture a soft dark color and I was so impressed I tried painting the shelves in a lighter coffee-color matte finish. They look awesome. We kept them right where they were at and instead of hanging some of my better photographs on the wall we set them on the "new" shelves. Now the room has a whole different positive modern vibe to it. Thanks for the great videos and good luck with the move.
I admire
your attention to detail, it’s obvious you put heart into your work. I don’t know what you charge but it’s worth every penny.👍
Hello again, Trena. This was a complicated process and the end result is amazing, as usual. I personally prefer the natural wood, but the customer has to be pleased. Your work is always high quality and the end results beautiful. I've learned so much while watching your videos.
thankyou
Yeah they look good and the work it demanded was huge.
I like the new base, but my prefered one is the free hand nubs removal line. What a confidence!!!
lol, done it a few times
Thank you so much for endorsing the idea that putting a lot of money toward the purchase of jigs is not always necessary. What attracts me to your channel is (among many other things) your ability to do great work without the purchase of expensive jigs. I love your channel, your work and your pursuit of excellence. I look forward to watching more! Again, thanks.
Thanks Kent!
You did a wonderful job. Yes, white paint is hard. Thank you for sharing your work.
wow, very nice Trena. I am currently building a cabinet and am using similar little feet as you showed. I had not thought to connect them with aprons but now I will for sure, much more of a finished look. When we watch you spraying, I am reminded of an oldie from 1960 "Poetry in Motion". thanks again for your inspiration and teaching!
Thanks David!
That set came up beautifully. Thank you for explaining the difference between your paint finishes and the DIY’ers. It is absolutely evident the professional finishes look amazing.
Looking forward to the day you can redo these pieces back to their wooden beauty.
They were dead ugly until Trena brought them back to life and made them desirable once again. Sure, the wood tone was OK but overlay drawer dressers look too much like kitchen cabinets. Ciao 😁
I hope I’m retired by then. Lol
Dowels are so much better than those sunken angle screws you see so much on CZcams furniture channels today. Even with new legs set still looks country, maybe it's the white paint. But your work is awesome, love to watch
Thankyou!
Looks like a perfect set for a little girls bedroom.
The quality of your finish is superb. Love it or not, your choice of coating and finish and your minute attention to detail to get it as perfect as possible is testament to your work. Thank you for another varied project.
Thank you very much!
Great change. Excellent paint work!
You are a true artist. Great work and attention to detail. Wish I had your patience.
Very nice honey great job. I'm a wood worker of many years and you make me look like a amateur!
Beautiful Job! Love the effort you put into this project. They look wonderful!
Very nice job. I enjoy your videos. I watch them often and sometimes go back to see past videos. You have a real talent! You had a very good mentor... your dad
Thankyou Tale!
Hello, Trena. I absolutely love your work and attention to detail! Always looking forward to your videoes - your videoes are truly a fantastic escape from everyday reality. Thank you so much. Love from Norway ❤
Thankyou Bue!
We used to have a 1950's maple bedroom set that was my husband's growing up. Eventually we got a much better bedroom set & gave it to our next door neighbor. When I saw her out in the yard painting it pink for her little girl's room my heart sank. However, just like your set , it looked quite nice when finished and pretty new hardware on. She had actually ombred it from blush down to little girl medium pink. Best of all - her daughter loved it. When the child turned into a teen she wanted her room to be all black & white so it got sanded & painted again - this time black. Her Mom said someday I'll have to strip all that paint off and redo it for a grandchild. That maple furniture takes a licking and keeps on ticking for sure.
Yes! And so nice it’s being loved
Awesome work! Thanks for sharing your carpentry skills!
I also follow Thomas Johnson. After everything is dry, and he finds there are nicks from shopdust in the finish, he takes a piece of brown paperbag. Makes a 3 double piece of it, and with a flat hand gives the furniture a final polish with it. It knocks down those nicks from the shopdust, but leaves the finish intact. I always love your videos, and how you take us in the close ups! 🌈
love Toms cannel too
At first when you said you were going to paint them, I thought, "oh no!" But, watching the finish emerge I was taken aback again with your finishing skills. They are better than awesome, they are beautiful. I'm sure many would agree with me that you certainly are the queen of finishers. Beautiful job. Such attention to detail. 👏
Thankyou so much
Really like your musical choice on this one. “Mid-winter contemplative.”
Thanks I like to keep it relaxed
Watching you spray paint is like watching a great artist painting. So graceful and deliberate on the strokes of the sprayer. A little trick my Father taught me for sanding flat work is to cut a hardwood block 2 1/4 of an inch wide by 5 1/2 inches long. Then cut a full sheet of 9 x 11 sandpaper in half and fold around the block. It helps me to keep the stock really flat. I always had a problem of gouging the wood with to much pressure with my fingers. Lol Cheers!!
Ah yes. My dad used to do this. Thanks
I watch a lot of furniture restoration on CZcams And you are the most knowledgeable and talented i have ever seen Thank you for your videos :)
Wow, thank you!
You always do such a beautiful job . and so relaxing to watch perfection!
Thankyou
Thanks again for sharing your work. This was a fun project to watch. Especially your work redoing the bases. The simplicity of using dowels without fancy jigs was refreshing. I did wonder if you chose that joinery because the project was going to be painted instead of stained or if that would have made any difference to you. It always pains me to see wood painted but you did it well and proved to be an excellent teacher along the way!
Nope. I would have dowel joined either way. Thanks for watching!
Amazing results Trena. I'm a wood finish fan but you showed how painting should be done right. Love the new bottoms. ✔ 👍
Thank you so much 😀
It just looks SO good.
I would never paint such beautiful furniture white, but you made an excellent job of it! Your videos are an absolute joy to me, I am just o sorry we live so far away. I have a piece of furniture or two I would love to give to you to work on. Losts of love from Sao Paulo, Brazil!
The one time I painted a chest of drawers white (from a childhood set of my mothers) to use in our son's room when he was little, I seem to recall investing a wee bit of stress equity in the project. With every new coat I'd find a few new imperfections. Thoroughly enjoyed the video.
Very nice! I hope you will put up a thumbnail after she gets you the hardware!
Really beautiful redesigning of the bases. Given that this was a family heirloom, so to speak, I'm surprised they wanted it white, but it's a matter of preference I guess. Your work is incredible as usual.
Well it look's perfect to me, great job Trena, have a nice day !!!.
Thank you! You too!
A very good Wednesday afternoon to you all from Wellington Somerset in the UK
thankyou David, my prayers are with you!
I could watch you work all day! I think you’re a genius! You care about every little detail, and that’s what matters.
Wow 😱That’s an Amazing job you did! I’m following you and looking at all your wonderful videos.. I’m learning at lot from You! Gracias for Sharing.. God Bless You!
WoW 😁!! White/White/White ! Great job Well Done!!
Wow! And wow! Beautiful!
This set looks brilliant. Great finish.
Youbare so great at the detail and flaws which you rectify.
Hope the hardware they chose will look good on them, pity we didn't see it all fully finished. I bet the customer will be proud of your work..
X
Awesome as always Trena, thank you.
You are so welcome
You are a Great Person.
Hope All is Well with You.....
Very Talented
thankyou!
Trena , I agree with you ! Water based Zin primer is useless , but the alcohol based stuff can hide anything ! I remember using SWP oil based bright white gloss paint on windows and the finish was amazing , always looked wet , it was so shiny ! We used to call oil based paint , " the real McCoy , never learned to spray , but my boss painted our house in about an hour and a half with a Greco airless sprayer , not including trim or windows . Thanks for the memories ! God bless the truckers and all Canadians
shellac is a great sealer for sure
Greetings from the BIG SKY.
The white paint job came out really well. I never liked using white because even after all the preparation I still had flaws to fix and then refinish the job. I totally agree that the tops will pop when done right and the customer will look there first. Well you did another good job-congratulations!
Thanks Dave!
Trena saves more furniture from the burn pile!!! 🔥🔥
It looks great. Especially like the new base details.
This is a real pleasure to see you again! You are incredible, nice job again! You are a real professional! God bless you! You are a very beautiful woman!💋❤️
thankyou
Your work is freaking awesome! It is great to see someone doing wood working right and making it to last! Tell all the soft sissy peeps who don't like harsh chemicals or what have you to go on down the road. Keep up the amazing work!
absolutely spot on work. Pre work is so crucial to a fantastic out come and you nail it every time. I so enjoy your channel. Much respect lady, you deserve it.
Thankyou!
Awesome! as the same! I love your Works.
Great transformation
Wow! What a transformation...God bless
Thank you! 😊
That is a nice piece of furniture. They look like something i saw one time at a store and they had all the stuff with them
Outstanding!
I must say that you have a “very fluid” motion with your spray gun! This project is all coming together!
Thankyou!
Excellent job!!
I watched your vids until well past midnight, I couldn't stop. I would clean your shop and tools for free, just to get some tips. Sorry, of course I had to comment on each one, you are just amazing. Icing on the cake is nice voice and accent, most of all a real person, which is rare on YT. I am so tired of stripping with oven cleaner and Annie Slone. Great to see things done "the right way", and then some. Settle for some coffees. BTW, hope you are planting your garden this year, that probably goes without saying. Thank you so much, I hear it is a PITA to film.🤩😍
lol, well. it is a little work thats for sure but i love sharing it. i will definitely have a garden in end of may. cheers!
What a monster of a project which you just walked right through like it was no big deal! That white paint looks great and it does show any micro cracks or separations that wouldn't be visible in the origibal stain. Terriffic work ... again!
Thanks Patrick
Nicely done ♥️
Excellent work 👏
Your Daddy did a good job teaching you his passion.
Greetings from the BIG SKY. CZcams's way of telling me I've already seen you video.
Your eye for detail & your dedication for perfection is amazing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful 🤩
Love the white❣
Absolutely beautiful work . Thanks for sharing .
Another fantastic job very well done Trena , but for me, I always cringe when I see solid wood painted. It makes me want to cry !
Thanks for watching!
Good job, I enjoyed it
Ohhh! I am no fan of white furniture. If it is going into a child's room, it will need redoing in a year or two. White paints soaks up everything LOL. I watch two furniture/restoration video personalities, you and Don Johonson. Both with different approaches and in both cases fascinating. Thank you for keeping this old 70-year-old entertained and even learning more with your content and skill, keeps me "in the game" after retirement
Thanks Donald
You do such phenomenal work, you really are gifted, can’t wait for the next one.
Bravo 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
You’re a terrific teacher Trena! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thankyou!
As usual a beautiful job
Thank you Trena, love redesign and color choice. Keep up the great work!!!
Thank you so much!
Really fresh and updated!
Love your work and you
Thank you!
I always learn something new from your videos! Thanks so much for the variety of works and attention to detail! Beautiful!
Thankyou so much!
Beautiful! Learned a lot, again! Thank you Trena.
You are so welcome!
Nice job 👍
I am so jealous of your skill with that paint gun.
Thanks Richard! comes from pops lookin over my shoulder. lol
Love your work. I'm not personally thrilled with the painted look, albeit done very well, but the customer wanted it so ...
Hi Rob, sorry you are so disappointed, pleas understand it is what my customer requested and i have to respect thier wishes. cheers
@@robk1310 don't be rude!
Awesome 👏
Very nice.
I am so happy you considered reversibility. Your update looks good.
Love the new bases, they really change and improve the look of the pieces. Your attention to detail is amazing and uncommon these days
thanks Shari
Thanks for the center point tips method for dowels. I ordered some. All these years trying different methods to line them up perfect, and didn't know about these. Great job on the furniture.
Thanks Leo
Love the new look-another great job in the making!
Thanks Dave!
Very nice update on the furniture, new bases are perfect, top job.
Thankyou Richard!
Hope your customers appreciate your attention to detail….. AMAZING 👍
If you don't have any fancy dowelfinders, drill through a piece of cardboard and use that as your template. Great to see the old techniques in action, excellent handiwork all around.
Thanks
The new bases really updated the pieces. I am a natural wood person myself but you did an amazing job with the white and I learned some new tricks as always.
Thankyou!
From when you said they were getting painted white I was horrified, but actually the standard of finish you achieved is outstanding, and looks good tbh
thanks, i know painting has a bad rap but a professional finish is a whole different animal compared to 99% of whats happening to furniture out there
Beautiful
