- The Chicago Cubs fell to their rival, St. Louis Cardinals, 3-0 on Friday at Wrigley Field.
Jordan Wicks got the start for the Cubbies in his first start back since his forearm injury. He went 1.2 innings before leaving early with another injury. Wicks was replaced by Kyle Hendricks, who pitched a strong 4.1 scoreless innings.
The Cubbies offense continued to struggle, as they could only muster 3 hits vs the Cardinals. Pedro Pages broke the tie with a solo homer late for the Cardinals, his first of the season. The Cubbies brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 9th but came up empty and took the 3-0 loss.

For the first time in a LONG-ASS time, I am meditatively at peace re: my fucking Cardinals... and we're only .500! For all your pain, my portion of the fanbase has raged at John Mozeliak's incompetence seemingly since the 19th century.
So, whatever's happening now w/ my Cardinals is awe-inspiring - which demonstrates how low our fucking bar was.
p.s. I will say, I can't remember a time when I saw an opponent melting down emotionally the way the Cubs did today. As you know, Mozeliak constructed our club based on his preference for emotionally-dead players, cut from the same cloth as him.
Thus, you could throw a tomato in the face of Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Gorman, and Dylan Carlson, and they might buy you a beer afterward. The Cardinals don't do angry except for Arenado... and his is mostly performative.
I get it. We're arch-rivals. Yet, had you swept us, you'd never know it by interviewing Goldy afterward. By contrast, Wesneski had a full-blown aneurysm as he watched Pages' ball sail into the basket.
I hate taking pleasure from others' misfortunes, but the Cubs seem to care considerably more about beating us - at least, optically - than we do beating you. Which is nice. It means, despite your WS rings, we're still living in your heads rent-free ;

Brother I feel you. After the third loss in Milwaukee in early May I packed up all my Cards gear and stopped caring. Until yesterday. After the third out my cubbie loving wife turned to me and said F you and your cardinals before storming off at Wrigley. I can’t remember the last time I was this happy. Cards win, my wife mad and walks away, my kids high fiving all cards fan. It was a good day. Here is hoping for another W today.

Jose Abreu was cut from Houston. I think we should sign him, cut/trade Wisdom. He could fail at DH, get cut. Or he could have a Bellinger bounce back which, he still has the power for Wrigley. Giving Abreu a shot between now and the deadline would be smart imo. We know what Wisdom is here. Trade him, he somehow has value

At this pace the Cubs will likely be at least 15 games back of first by the trade deadline, dead last in the division, and definitely sellers. This was billed as a division winning playoff team. No friggin way. Amaya sucks, Wisdom sucks, the bullpen sucks, and mostly, I just don't see any heart or fight in any player on the team right now. Only so much Counsell can do. It's the roster construction that's the problem.
