- ADAS is all the rage these days. To see how the ADAS experience differs at different price points, we assembled a fine selection of ADAS equipped cars including the Honda City, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Ioniq 5 & Mercedes AMG EQS 53.
Of all the ADAS systems, AEB or Automatic Emergency Braking is the trickiest system to trust. It applies the brakes on its own as soon as it detects a collision is imminent.
To understand how well the AEB systems in these cars are calibrated, we took them to a closed section of the road and tested the system with a real human being! There were some ground rules that we followed. In each car, we set the detection distance to ‘Early’. We capped the speed to 40 - 45km/h, and we did three attempts with each car, all driven by the same driver.
Watch the full video to find out which of the four impressed us the most.

Hello everyone, we understand your concern but would like to reiterate that this test was performed in a controlled environment with all the safety measures in place. The driver was in the car, ready to take control at any moment. More than anything, we wouldn’t have put our colleague’s life at risk in the first place. But, we do take your criticism in good faith and will have a real crash test dummy when we do these tests again. Thank you again for your love and support. :)
You Xuv700 settings were on medium, set it to different level and it will stop the car much earlier like City
@@praneshsaikrishIt was set at 'Early' for all cars.

Why human as test body this is not fare
Use a dummy man , why to risk a person's life
exactly, cheap indian life
cuz it's fun
Budget is high 😂
Seriously… y ur risking a human and trusting a machine?
The guy prepared to risk serious injury or death if the tech didn't work and the driver didn't react in time if the tech fails, is a bit of a dummy to put himself in danger, in my opinion.
I suppose, having seen umpteen video examples of the lack of care and driving standards of drivers on Indian roads, I am not terribly surprised by the use of a human as a crash test dummy.
In Europe, you'd have been arrested for serious neglect of duty of care to another human being.
Could you not have found a mannequin to use instead?
Is there no appreciation of Health and Safety?
The technology worked, thankfully.
It confirms my resolve to trust my City implicitly.
It won't work in bad whether as it relays on cameras rather then a radar
Look at how closely the EQS and City are matched with precision, consistency! Hats off to Japanese engineering
Honda only comes with camera no radar 🗿👍

They would have just kept a mannequin ! Assholes for a reason
I second that
Agreed and it is wrong test subject..
May be because human life is cheap here

That's y I love city.
I had 2016 city and now I have Xuv700 Axl 7.
After driving 5k in xuv, one thing i can assure that city is a way too more comfortable for driver and Co passengers in front seat. And 2nd row is more comfortable in Xuv700. My 3rd row is mostly folded down so no comments on it.
Comparing comfort between a sedan and a crossover compact suv…😅😅
@@bharatlodhi4134 For mid variant XUV, you get Honda City top end model. People do compare which give best value for money.

Nice one, but please keep a dummy instead of real person.
Request: Next time on the same road if you have a curve, place the dummy just after the curve and see how ADAS works! that would be really interesting.
Really impressed with Honda’s camera based system outperforming one of the most sophisticated systems of expensive car. Kudos to Honda ❤
Honda did well at that price point…. ❤
I own the the same city, This breaking system is awesome, it judges based on cars's and leading obstacle/ person's speed. Also if you are turning your vehicle then it considered the new turned path and stops accordingly.
really suprised on how the city system worked so well inspite of it having only the camera and no radar system whereas the other cars do possess the radar which helps them to work well in foggy and dim lighting condition
Radar only detects meral objects so humans and animals detection has to be done using cameras
Wonder why honda has removed radar and restrained to camera system for ADAS. There was an incident reported in malaysia where a shadow of the overhead fly over detected as object and brakes were applied and rear-ended by trailing vehicle. This happened for a honda HRV 2022 model.
@@ginodavis can you give the link for accident news, i dont think shadow can interfere with adas camera as it sits at the top in full non reflective enclosure
@@PravinTTT it can intervene. Camera based system uses object detection. Image is fed into system frame by frame in real time and then it does the segmentation of it. So it is very much possible for a system to get confused.
MG Astor is very consistent in applying AEB. Saved me twice in real situation
Bad driver
@@shrysm 😁😆
😂
So true it works really great!!
But won't last much long.
There seem to be two styles of applying AEB here. All four cars detect the obstacle fairly quickly, but the Ioniq and City fovus most on breaking earlier and well in time, while XUV and the Merc brake later. Also something i saw in another video by MotorOctane was that they said that the AEB reduces the speed if the speeds above 30 kph and below that it brings the car to a dead stop. So at lower speeds maybe the XUV stops early. The City meanwhile impressed me solidly with its AEB. Amazingly good at that price point!
Just breaking early doesn't mean it's better, in a real world scenario car should break only and only when it's totally necessary, premature full breaking will cause unpredictable results and safety issues. I had tested my xuv700 AEB with service centre. There are 3 levels of breaking, 1st is warning with slight break, 2nd is partial break, which is pretty strong, 3rd is full break, which is the strongest. The system is designed in such a way to serve multiple conditions on Indian roads, from avoiding rear ending a car in front of you to avoiding a collision with a car or pedestrian all together.
System never breaks too early, otherwise you'll have constant breaks in Indian traffic conditions which will render your driving experience horrible. Tuning matters a lot.
AEB is tuned similarly for all cars. It's not XUV specific. At city/low speeds, it brings the car to a complete halt but when you're on a highway or doing high speeds, it applies light brakes as a warning.
@@autoX at Highway speed or low speed, AEB in XUV700 is designed to bring down the speed by 50 kmph at max, as per owners manual. That means at any speed above 50 if full AEB is applied, car will never come to a stop, as the system releases brakes when speed is cut down by 50 kmph - tested this on Highway. However if speed is less than 50 then full AEB can bring the car to a standstill (if system decides to apply full AEB)
@@pritishpatil7659 nobody cares about your Mahindra tractor. Please go away get a life touch grass
Expecting gradual linear breaking in AEB beats the purpose. It should wait for human reaction and act only very late to minimise damage. It seems he does not understand what "emergency" means.
@@autoXI dont know about other cars but I tested both City and Xuv and now I own Xuv. Yes in city it does start breaking early and gradually it is also very consistent but due to the Honda's ADAS being camera based instead of radar based like XUV in the foggy nights especially here in north it's a complete failure. None of the Adas tech work properly at night. A friend and I were going on the same road while he was in his brand new city with just 200kms on the odo and at night where the xuv was working perfectly fine in terms of Adas the honda was clueless about lane markings, vehicles in front and all. Also XUV saved my life once on the highway when suddenly a car in front of me came down to a very less speed from approx 100 due to cow coming in front. Xuv slammed the brakes got my speed down to 25 from 90. Didn't crash though as I steered away.
Good comparison in terms of range of cars, it covers Indian, Japanese, Korean and German.
With XUV700, you could have used a dummy and tested it one last time to see if it works or not. Rather than you are confident or not.
Overall well done 👏
Why just dummy for XUV ? Are you soo confident on the remaining?
@@rithikmanoj I don't think you have understood my comment. The reviewer applied the brakes because he was not confident. Probably because he may have thought the car could hit the human. So I recommended as s last option, he could have used the dummy to test XUV700 to see if the tech used in vehicle works or not. Hope it is clear this time.
Hello everyone, there are 3 modes in XUV for setting up adas. Level 1 very aggressive & it will stop at some good distance, level 2 mild & it will stop at some normal distance, level 3 being least aggressive it will stop at the distance that were shown in the video above.
Please note this.
There are serval incidents where 700 ran over. It’s a failure
@@vid111There may be reasons where AEB was turned off or padestrians, bikes came from blind spot. Without analysis such conclusions have little merit.
indian hai emotion se bik hi jata hai...😂
@@swamausarswargiaryhe was talking with stats and proofs and you're talking with baseless argument.
Indian cars are not bought in the name of emotions. Even if they are it's the same CHAINA, KUREA and Japan. Japanese companies are fire though.
This comparison is certainly a great initiative as I have not seen any other channel doing this. However, I am surprised that you have not included a single Volvo model in this comparison which is the pioneer and introduced ADAS in India and whose effectiveness is considered the best in the world. Volvo is the only company which provides ADAS as standard across models and variants. I urge you to do a special feature on Volvo and then you may enlighten the viewers on how these cars compare with the benchmark i.e the Volvo. Thank you.
Your wish is our command. We are working on it already. Stay tuned. :)
@@autoX Thank you.
Honda city was confident all the 3 times
I think you should be arrested for doing such a stupid thing like making your colleague stand their physically.
Using a real human is clearly stupid 😢 especially when Adas is so flawed right now
Glad that ADAS Camera that I worked on is performing very well and Helping to avoid accidents .
City's AEB is the best as it is consistent and natural.
But in bad weather conditions the system will fail. City ADAS is only based on camera hence not reliable. Radar should also be there, cost cutting perhaps.
But in bad weather it will not work as efficient as the other
Using a test dummy would have been the best approach. Also more tougher scenarios to test would be a cyclist or pedestrian crossing the highway around a corner or curve, and a stalled/parked vehicle on the road at night without hazard or warning lights. Finally, these systems should be tested and certified under the Bharat NCAP program
What wear the ADAS setting at? What distance?
Are there any settings for emergency braking in three cars to tune??
Hi, I am planning to buy the ZX CVT but I'm just worried about ADAS's CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking system). My usage in the city and typical congested Indian city condition.. bumper to bumper traffic.
I am worried about the system giving false warnings or warning it think is correct & then applying strong brakes. Worried about collision from the rear. Turning it off each time is impractical. Please let me if in your tests you found it to be problem or the system is good and not very intrusive to create a problem. Thanks
hyundai's really KILLED it with the design of the IONIQ 5, considering how it's the most eye-catching and gorgeous car in the lineup even when there's a merc S-class equivalent in it as well

XUV has three settings for AEBS early, late and normal . Which one you used in that vehicle..If AEBS sets in early then it’s a potential hazard for a back collision.
Good review, but why is there no byd atto3?
Wow Amazing reviews 👏
Using Human as a subject, quite well done AutoX 👍

And also make a video for best adaptive cruse control in the 20 lac to 30 lac segment as well as 30 to 60 lac segment.
Would love to see that..🎉
Safari is not a good candidate here as it only has level 1 adas. Although, I agree they should put other lv2 cars in comparison to make it fair for everyone.
Tata safari don't have adas
How can we know whether u applied the breaks or car applies.
Better to keep a camera near the legs
Yes I can confirm that the Honda Sensing Suite is quite good and consistent
will you never bring the Virtus GT test track drive video?
You can actually set the distance for the braking, it seems in some it was late
Why not included Astor with level 2 ADAS?
Any Reason for not adding MG Astor ?
Best ADAS system is in honda city in the segment and in this test
Does i7 has adas function?
So does this mean city's camera based adas is better than radar based adas even though people say that it is inferior to radae based adas.
My city actually saved pedestrian jaywalking highways many times, and it did it really well. Altho....
PLEASE STOP JAYWALKING ON HIGHWAYS AND EXPRESSWAYS ITS REALLY SCARY 💀
Could you test mahindra 3xo , not a single video on its ADAs and AEB
If anyone comes from right or left at distance 1feet or 2 feet just in front of headlights ,will adas apply break ,it happens with me.how it will work in bumper to bumper traffic.minimum distance before car stop
Why isn't the Gloster & Safari Red Dark is here?
I like that city is one of the best. I have Honda elevate which is built on the same platform so I'm happy
Ionics mags look so futuristic compared to others
Why MG Astor was not included?
In actual road conditions adas wont work without hiccups due to overlooked traffic conditions in our state 😊
Thinkin of buying Ioniq, Looks so futuristic and good range. My Octavia and I20 nline is giving just 8-9kmpl with AC in city. Fuel bills are like 30k per month. Running is 2500km per month.
Mad commitment
I think XUV700,and might all cars does have different levels to adjust automatic braking like ""Early, late, and Normal"".So,on which level was it??
'Early' in all four cars.
Bro ready to sacrifice his friend😂😂
in mahindra xuv 700 u can configure when u want to apply the brake
The sudden jerk doesn’t mean its detecting the object late, its actually better for the real world where the vehicle doesn’t unnecessary slow down. You’ll end up disabling the feature more as it gets annoying after sometime if it brakes too early.
Besides, you really don’t want the AEB to kick in everyday! So that jerk is not something you’ll experience everyday.
Review also doesn’t mention the FCW sensitivity setting for any of these vehicles.
Even before the video started I knew it would be City!
I really appreciate the efforts. But it would have made more sense if u could use some dummy that wouldn't damage the car incase the car dashed into it. And then the driver could be totally not interfere with the brakes and find out what the system actually did to get the perfect result
In xuv you can set the detection meters in settings
Bhai u r rit seting, xuv700

You can change the sensitivity of the braking in XUV
You should have kept the Hyundai Verna too. I've driven the City, XUV700 and Verna. I found Verna's ADAS to be the most efficient.
