Best snail for my tank? Are Horned Nerites (Clithon Corona) good?

yes it's terrible those eggs all on the glass etc.
I've had my Zebra Nerite snail a year and a half and my glass stays absolutely clear and clean on all 4 sides.
I added 6 more fish to the 40G breeder and will be adding a horned nerite as the 2 snail clean up crew.
Going from 8 fish to 14 fish in a planted tank. I also upped to 9 hours light instead of 6. I love seeing my snail and having a second one will be awesome! I also make sure decor and stuff they have room to squeeze and not miss spots 😉
You forgot to mention they will often lay eggs, hundreds of them, which can be unsightly and nearly impossible to remove from driftwood. I would recommend Mystery snails as an alternative.
Great video. In my 55g I have olives, tigers, red racers, zebras and a lightning bolt. In my 15g I have a tiger and an olive. I just ordered 5 sun horned nerites and will probably put 4 in tye 55g and one in the 15g. They're both all live plants so they should have plenty of food, and I supplement algae wafers for my fish anyway....great video and perfect timing. My snails should be here next week. I got them off ebay this time
The nerite are about the only snail 🐌 I have not had in my tanks yet, they look nice, I would like to get a male though, all those white eggs would become a bit of a problem. I tend to hail the pomacea bridgesi as top snail, however they aren’t the best algae cleaners. Great video, I love snails🙂👍🏻

I spent 2 hours in the fish store, like a mad women, with a magnifying glass and a camera to make sure I was getting a male. They can be tricky to gender... The fourth one I inspected looked male to me. I don't know for sure if I did it correctly or if I was just lucky but I have no eggs!

The store was nice enough to let me bring it back and try another one if it turned out to be a female. Luckily I got it right the first attempt.

Thank you for a great video. I LOVE my Zebra Nerite snail. In my new nano 6.5 gallons tank, he is doing such a good job at cleaning the surfaces that I have a big bowl by the window, for growing more algae to supplement his diet. I didn't know you needed to have an established tank when I got him. Contrarily to what I had researched he is a very picky eater, won't eat any blanched veggies or wafers like other types of snail. The only additional food he will accept is spirulina powder (so another form of algae).
Next time I get a Nerite snail I want to try a Clithon Corona.
Can you tell me if their antennas are being harassed by fishes who mistake them for worms like they tend to do with the Mystery snails? I am working on another bigger tank and would like to include some in it but I am afraid to make them suffer. My actual tank has no fish in it, just snails and shrimps.
Thank you for your comment! I had zero problems with harassment of Clithons. They anthenas are never under attack, but thay are still quite fragile. You need to be careful during tank maintenance not to damage them and be carefull how you put them into the tank (don't throw them in :P ). Also after a while those anthenas can get covered in small thread algae - but don't worry about that.
It's true that they are effective, but only in huge numbers. They work well in nano tanks.
That is true. For very big tanks, Clithon will not make a difference unless you get A LOT of them.
@@AquascapingCube will they still eat the existing green filamentous hair algae off of the plants, on the substrate, and other parts of the tank? Also if they do, how many do I need for a 29 gallon planted tank.
@@kathleenmonsegue9700 Hi! Not really, if you have hair algae problem Siamese algae eater or especially Amano shrimp are better choice.
@@AquascapingCube yea but I have dwarf shrimp and their tiny babies in my planted tank and it’s not quite heavily planted yet, and I think they will eat them.

just to keep the algae at bay? I'm thinking at least 6-8?
Don't worry about the reproduction.
Just make a brackish tank and add them in there. :D

The females do and they're very sticky and hard to remove. They don't bother me though. They will NOT hatch because they need brackish water to hatch
