  • See the Anderton Boat Lift's history in this 'in depth' background video on its mechanics and history. Using descriptive graphics, AI enhancement and colourisation.
Grab a brew and sit down for a trip around the boat lift and related history.
We also cover the day the lift plummeted to the bottom!
10:25 is where the description of the mechanics starts if you want to skip the early background.
This video may be edited and re-uploaded over time as info unfolds (This video is Version 2)
We'd like to thank Dave and the Canal and Rivers Trust for the fantastic “Walk the lift tour” and for the input into this video.
We will be putting together a 'short' of this video showing just the mechanics and technical descriptions of the lift itself.
This video isn't monetised and is created for those with a passion for inland waterways and history. Like ourselves!

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this upload, thanks for making it. Living in the area the lift was our playground in the 70's and during school holidays we would try and get as many rides up and down as possible off any boater that would let us onboard.
    thanks again,
    Regards Steve

What an absolutely brilliantly researched and presented video. Thank you very much for taking the time to edit and present this look at our local history. I remember playing around the lift in the 80's when it was abandoned, looking back now we used to play underneath the viaduct, which is where the weights used to hang. If we had realised then how much weight was in those counterbalance weights we may have thought twice about playing underneath them. 😳
