  • A 6.8 mile dayhike beginning at the Madison Falls Trailhead of Olympic National Park to the Glines Canyon Spillway Overlook.
The Olympic Hot Springs Road is closed to vehicular traffic at the park entrance due to a washout about a mile south.
The hiker must use a bypass trail that skirts above the washout area near the old Elwha campground to complete the 3.4 mile journey to the site of the old Glines Canyon Dam.
The bypass trail around the washout is muddy in places.
Water is available at several small creeks for filtering. Although there is a restroom at the spillway, the door is locked since it cannot be serviced due to the washout.
Views into the bed of the former Lake Mills are available at the spillway, along with a number of interpretive displays.

Thanks Dan for the hike. Great to see how the Elwha is evolving these days. I must get over there soon to see the changes for myself. Your commentary is much appreciated as well as the video.

I like the new format and have actually been shooting the same stuff but trying to dial in my video and voice over settings. You may need a bit more up angle on the camera. And yeah that first part by the river is sketchy. I was toying with time lapse photos verses video to get more recording time. I actually hope they never fix the road :-D

Thanks Bret! Working on the angle of the GoPro chest mount, seems it's never in the right spot yet.
