  • This frog imitation fishes super well... and looks like it will hop out of your fly box on its own.
    Ken Capsey's Japeto Frog is easily one of the most fun flies I have ever tied!
    The target species for the Japeto Frog is bass (smallmouth, largemouth, spotted), but pike, musky, and even snakeheads are targetable with this fly as well.
    When fishing the Japeto Frog, cast to lily pads, moss, grass, weeds, or any structure close to the bank. Typically, fishing a frog pattern is noticeably faster than other topwater patterns, but observe and let the fish tell you the speed you should be moving with.

    Thanks for sharing this one Brian, I have been trying to figure out frog and salamander patterns for a while now, I can see those shanks working well for a Here Lizard Lizard pattern as well. There are some bass lakes around where I live that love to eat frogs and manders during certain times of the year. Pretty easy rinse and repeat patter that can be effective.

    If I tied this awesome pattern with the medium size popper which spines would you think I should use?

    Can you give a better description of how to cut the foam, length, angle, etc?

    That's a pretty nice frog pattern! What is your preferred rod weight to toss monster flies like this? Is there any difficulty in casting due to the weight of the fly?

    • @FlymenFishing
      @FlymenFishing  Před 4 lety

      It is primarily foam, so it is reasonably light. Ideally a 7 and higher rod weight should get the job done comfortably.

    Is that 1mm or 2mm craft foam?

  • @catchingcalifornia9758

    Great video! What size rod are you throwing this on?

    • @Three_Rivers_Adventure
      @Three_Rivers_Adventure Před 3 lety +1

      Probably a 7/8 WT rod would do for a fly like that. I use an 8/9 WT but that's cause I have Musky in the river alone with the bass.

    Wouldn’t a weed guard be ideal for this??

    • @FlymenFishing
      @FlymenFishing  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, for ponds with a lot of weeds or lily pads I would add a simple weedguard.
