I'd say she probably said that because her lyrics don't resonate with a lot of older people - explicit mentioning of sex and cursing, etc. My grandma (92) would for sure HATE her songs if she understood English.
Also 56 isn't even old! I just listened to the audio book of Maya Angelou called "Letters to my daughter" yesterday and she specifically said she was against cursing in any art form and thought it was naughty and plain wrong. Therefore I can understand Reneé not wanting an audience who from the jump disapproves of her in that sense.
