Shipping containers are made out of a type of metal called corten steel. Corten steel is highly resistant to corrosion. If you give the container a good washing when you get it to get the salt residue off of it from being shipped across the sea for so many years your container should last you a long long time even if you don't paint it. Corten steel would take a lifetime almost to rust through. This steel is made to not have to be painted. It's used in architectural structures to give the rust like appearance and provide low maintenance. The way it works is when it's exposed to moisture and oxygen and the outside elements it creates a surface rust coating which seals the steel preventing it from further rusting. It will of course slowly rust overtime however it is not your typical type of rusting as it takes much much longer for it to rest because it does not behave like your traditional mild steel.
Thought this would be some good information to put out there to inform of some of you guys who aren't aware of how it works the characteristics it has and the fact that you really don't need to paint it however painting it can definitely extend its life even further although in most cases you probably be dead before it's deteriorated enough that you have to do something about it. A container sure does look much better when it's painted with a fresh coat of paint that's for sure.

Well explained and correct you can normally tell when a yard hasn't used cotton to repair the boxes usually it's only the roof and side panels and door panels that are corten

i have that same sprayer, ran full thickness oil based rustoleum in 28 degree weather and it sprayed it like a champ. The machine is a little spendy, but its worth every penny!
Also, use diesel to clean it out and gave it a rinse with mineral spirits after the bulk of material was flushed. Way cheaper than running like 3 gallons of mineral spirits through it.

I don't have the wand... but need to get one.
Don't be scared to run oil base through your sprayer.
Buy an oil base tip. It will flow through it just like latex... no probs.
Just have to clean with thinner instead of water, but not too hard to do.
Need to get me a shipping container too.
    Good job,

Actually you only need to support the container on the corners. So only 4 blocks will work. They are designed to be stacked like blocks up to 8 high and that is fully loaded with cargo.... The other containers only touch each other on the corners!!!! If you get bigger than 40' like 45', those have 2 extra corner blocks that can support weight also. Those are there in case you stack a 40' on top a 45' or vice versa....
