    Hi, like your video. I have an alternator with a pulley that doesn't rotate freely. It's a little bit stiff. I have asked mechanics to keep my alternator and only change the pulley. They always want to change the whole alternator which is an expensive repair. Are they just choosing the lazy and pricer option? Thanks

      Hugo Henderson if it’s a pulley issue and they can change it, then they should. Depends on cost and labour. If it’s a big job to get at it, then it’s worth changing the whole unit.

    the nut on my mustang 2.3 liter came off coming home from work. I did notice some metallic shavings on inside of the pully. I was able to tighten the nut back on but is it something I should worried about?

      Someguyto try to tighten it to torque settings, use some lock tight if necessary. Thanks for watching.

    ty for video. Question what about the allen nut? I saw the 24mm hex nut but not the allen?

    • @drivewaydiyer6504
      @drivewaydiyer6504  Před 3 lety +1

      I couldnt get it off with the Allen, so I used the leverage with the fan and impact to remove it. It was very seized.👍

      angela bigford Depends on your ability, probably a couple of hours. You’d need to remove the alternator first, depends how quickly you can remove it and what you come up against. Good luck

    Do you know what the tool is called that you use to pull the pulley off? At 2 minutes and 50 seconds?

    • @drivewaydiyer6504

      It’s a puller, there’s loads on eBay, not that expensive either.

    What is the technique if you don't have an impact driver? Put the pulley in the vice and then undo the bolt?

    • @drivewaydiyer6504
      @drivewaydiyer6504  Před 2 lety +2

      Do that, have a big cheater bar aswell

      You can also use vice grips on the larger socket(usually around 24mm) and let the table or vice hold the handle of the vice grips, then use a dencent length hex through the back of the socket to the center of the pulley with a ratchet

  • @SomeGuyInSandy
    @SomeGuyInSandy Před rokem

    Nah, just hold the pulley and use an impact and a socket. It'll just spin right off.

  • @Abraham-MasterofLights

    I don't have a impact drill

    • @drivewaydiyer6504
      @drivewaydiyer6504  Před 2 lety

      If you don’t have an impact, your garage/shop would probably undo it for you. Worth investing in one though, if you’re doing your own repairs.👍

    good job. lose the accent , I can barely understand you. I speak English, too, but it loses alot in the translation coming over the big water.
    Or I can just mute it and read the captions.
