      I think he was altered in some way by "the project" to be able to do something like teleporting, and act as an assassin. It seemed like for some reason, he began killing the other experiment subjects? Unless that was intended as "practice" lol. So, he really did kill the people he was suspected of. It was hard to figure out the logic of what was happening, but a really masterful story overall! I loved it.

    The narration is very well done and the story?! That is a whole other level of horror writing. It's not often that these stories keep me on my toes guessing but this one sure did.
    *SPOILER AHEAD, DO NOT SCROLL DOWN*
    What I really loved about the end was that I was pretty sure about what was going on and had been happening thru out but there is just something in the last bit that got me wondering. Did they come to tie up hubby's loose ends or was she the failed experiment that couldn't keep a nice, little family life going. So she needed to be "taken" care of? It's probably all to cover for hubby but there's just enough left unsaid and the wife just isn't right in the head for the whole thing. Sooo HhHhhMmMmn?

    • @nancymyself9665
      @nancymyself9665 Pƙed 4 lety

      Wow, I didn't think about that (in the Spoiler). But yeah, I didn't get what the agent said about "domestic application" specifically. There wasn't anything in the story about Shelly"s childhood, but I had the impression that she was always narcissistic. The story made me think of The Manchurian Candidate.

      there was a "PROJECT" to do "remote viewing" which was that a person "could" be in one place and meditate. that person than could "see" places and items anywhere in the world by mental projection. this is NOT A JOKE. the CIA and MILITARY took that project very serious. WHAT is happening in this story is "physical" projection (teleportation) of the "subject". the guy was a "volunteer" for the "black ops" study and i was being used as a assassin by the "spooks" (CIA). He was able to "teleport" to where they wanted him to go but needed him in a "certain state of mind" for it to work ( drugged or very drunk).

    Holy shit I haven't hated the protagonist of a story this hard in a long time. I'm glad Shelly ended up being evil because if she was supposed to be sympathetic while also being such a selfish biatch I wouldn't have liked the story much at all. Good to know there was a purpose behind it.
    I also love how her story started to expose the mystery aspect in the background, only for that to be brought back up at the very end. One of those things that leaves you wanting more info without feeling like the story was lacking. Solid A

    A great story, but I don`t understand some parts of it :)
    What is it with James constantly forgetting about everyone and everything from the past and about Vietnam, and getting told by Thomas "that James had died in the jungle"?
    Is James a ghostly being or undead or what happened?
    And what "project participant" was James and why did the project (probably some post-war PTSD help) fail?
    Well James got drunk sometimes in the evening and had some PTSD issues, but his wife was the bitch that constantly acted weird and 100% egoistic and erratic, had zero time for him and his problems, cheated whenever she wanted and acted out however she wanted, could not accept that her "beta-cuckold" started his own life and last but not least she hammered the last nail into her son`s coffin......
    So why was James a "failed project" - he did nothing wrong but coming home from war and making the American dream real, and drinking sometimes a little bit while being melancholic, and in the meantime got fucked up lied to cheated betrayed and brought to prison just because his ungrateful bitch got somehow "bored of her housewife-life suburbia paradise".
    Ehm why exactly was James a "failed project"....? I am really curious and I hope that someone can explain and discuss the superb yet somehow mysterious plot-twist ending a little bit.

    • @joeo2533
      @joeo2533 Pƙed 4 lety +8

      James was killed in Vietnam by his fellow soldiers (the ones that he went after) and his corpse was brought to life in some dark secret project. He was brought back with serious side effects after glimpsing the other side like PTSD, memory loss and some emotionally influenced teleportation ability.
      He's probably a failed project because of the fact that he's been arrested and will therefore never integrate into a normal life which could have been the goal of the project.
      The observer deeming the project a failure decides to tie all loose ends before calling it quits, one of which is Shelley and her knowledge of James' ability.

      My favorite part about videos like this is all the people proclaiming how good it is, but when people ask questions about the plot, none of them have answers.
      I had to listen to this in two parts, so I might not remember some things, but I started getting the feeling that the wife was the project and the husband was more of a monitoring device.
      The baby was real, the baby's father was real, and the murder was real, so maybe the plan was to drop this "woman" into a real world scenario and hope she could assimilate... but, she doesn't. She's the failed project and must be terminated.

    • @Jebiwibiwabo
      @Jebiwibiwabo Pƙed 4 lety +3

      my theory is that james really did die in Vietnam, the project might be reviving people from the dead and implanting/blocking memories associated with their death in order to not have them freak out over it. Maybe the people who did it to him were continually tweaking and modifying things, hence why he might have appeared in other states, and almost vanished towards the end. The failure being that they were unable to successfully reintroduce James to the world without mental trauma, an allegory of sorts for returning veterans, this would also explain as to why he went from staving off alcohol to being an alcoholic, his staring at walls or being unreachable, both which are attributed to his mental blocks and actual PTSD.

      @@chillingtalesfordarknights Thx so much for the link. I think I knew that when I heard him b4 but had forgotten who it was. He's awesome. This story is brilliant, and pulls you in for the entire ride. As a writer and p/t narrator myself I KNOW how difficult it can be to breathe life into the printed word. So Erik, I bow to your excellence in both writing and narrating. Good luck Bro 👊 đŸ‘đŸ€˜ You ROCK!
