  • What a cool cover! Gave me a lot of childhood nostalgia, and had some fun little country moments here and there. Also, thanks to everyone who has helped the channel get to 500 subscribers! Previously I wouldn't have even bothered with putting this kind of thanks into the description but I hid an easter egg in the description of the last video and a ton of people noticed so clearly you guys actually read this thing! That's fun to know. Anyways, thanks again everyone, if you aren't already subscribed please do so, it helps small content creators like myself a lot, and also please give the video a like so that it can reach even more people!

One thing to look out for when you're listening to Home Free is that Tim and Chance both have huge ranges (Tim is 5+ octaves and Chance is 4+), so they occasionally jump up and sing tenor just because they can, and Adam the beatboxer if he's not beatboxing can be heard up in the rafters doing harmony, so it can be hard sometimes to pick up who's doing what. (Austin's timbre is probably easier to pick out. He's their belter, so if it's a high belted note, it's probably Austin.)
As an example, they did a song a couple years back, an Austin original, called "Love Me Like That". Austin sings lead throughout. At points, there is a high harmony part above Austin's melody line, and a harmony part below it as well. I think the intent with the arrangement was that Rob would sing that high harmony and Chance would do the lower harmony. But... The high harmony part was right where Rob's voice breaks between head and chest, and he was struggling to sing it. So instead, Tim jumps up from his bass part (which Chance takes over), takes that high harmony part for that bit while Rob sings the line below Austin, then Tim just seamlessly drops back down to bass. They do this kind of stuff all. the. time because their ranges are just so wide, and their arrangements aren't afraid to use those ranges to great effect (Adam's arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear" is probably the one that pushes the envelope the most with a part the HF guys refer to as "5 octaves in 5 seconds"). I'm going to love watching you react to some of those when you get to them.

It's a really fun song, which Tim, and his friend and long-time collaborator Chris Chatham, wrote about 10 years ago, and which Tim originally recorded solo (with instruments - it's on CZcams in a couple of places). But with Home Free releasing a new patriotic album, it was the perfect time for them to record it. (This is the title track, and it's due out, I think it's the 25th June.) They filmed the video, along with several others, when they were in Nashville to perform at the Opry a few weeks ago - the first time they'd all been together since Christmas, when they filmed their Christmas special. So they enjoyed kicking back and having fun, as they love to do - horses, a cool jeep, and Austin fishing, whenever there's the chance...

It will also blow your mind! He has one I love he recently did where he sings high all through it, a solo on Lets Stay Together. He did several solos this summer while they weren't touring, At Last is another great one. Check out Home Free Can't Stop the Feeling. All their ranges are just crazy. I guess people are just more surprised when a bass jumps up and does tenor than when a tenor jumps up and essentially sings soprano. What's really amazing with Austin is how often those high notes are still in his chest voice.

Austin's falsetto A5 is insane. I don't mean to day this as a flex, but me and my brother arr, as masculine voices, able to hit A5's in our falsettos. The point of saying that is not to flex, but to point out how even though I can hit those kinds of notes, I still recognize that it's amazing and white rare to hear anyone hitting those kinds of notes as masculine singers.
Also, I just gotta say, you're one of my favorite reaction/analysis CZcamsrs out there. I only found you a week ago from someone suggesting you on a Peter Barber reaction, and gosh am I thankful for them. You're among the fee people on this platform who will not just react when they mention that they also have musical experience, but also analyze what you are listening to. Would love to see you react to a LOT more Home Free. Namely Man of Constant Sorrow, Ring of Fire, Seven Bridges Road, Helplessly Hoping, and once you're super comfortable with their roles and ranges, listen to Mayday. Trust that you need to wait a little for Mayday, it's worth it!

I had to laugh about you asking what Austin's little dance was. He does it in a lot of the videos. I think it looks like he's about to break into that dance "the floss" he just doesn't follow through with the arms! 🤣

Hi. Love your reaction. This song was written by Tim Faust and his friend, so we consider it a HF original. I call this song peppy patriotic. Love it.

"So I Will Sing And Let It Ring" was Tim continuing the line, just singing in his higher register, Then Austin came in! On that first chorus! Yeah, Tim ! Tim has a 5 octave range! Watch Tim in " Misty Mountains" Peter Hollens ft Tim Foust then
"Mayday"&"Snow Globe" Tim might have a couple of surprised! Then
"Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On" Ed Sheeran and Marvin Gaye cover then
"Let's Stay Together" Austin Brown, that did the A-5 at the ending background for Land of the Free. Also "In the Blood" John Mayer cover.
If I repeated a song request or you've already done I apologize! Thank you!♥️Love Home Free! 🍟

Home Free is awesome, as are Voiceplay and Pentatonix, but if you were blown away by an A5, you should check out Dimash (whose last name I can neither pronounce nor spell). He sang SOS at Biden's inauguration, and that is a perfect song to introduce him to you.

You should do a reaction to "My Church" and "Leave This Town" covers by Home Free! Similarly, you should react to Home Free's performance on "The Sing Off" doing a cover of "Ring Of Fire" and noticing the judge's comments at the end.... and that brings us to "The End Of The Road" cover of Boys2Men. And I am a new subscriber.

I think Home Free has their own company so you do not have copyright issues. You might find it helpful to listen to their Sing Off performances, really shows a range of
styles. I like that version of Ring of Fire better. Have you listened to their version of How Great Thou Art yet
