I have every Mothership as well. I love them all and use them all. I am an African American woman and Pat McGrath was THAT brand that came out with the rich deep shades that showed up on my skin. DR 1 was the FIRST palette that can pull ashy which is why it is my least favorite palette. For years upon years brands like ABH and Urban Decay (I am looking at you Naked Palettes), oh and Too Faced ever revolving palettes of light colors that just never looked good on our skin! I am a Pat STAN always and forever!
Say it Angela! Her products are stellar, full stop. Most other luxury makeup brands excel at washed out shades of beige that definitely do not cater to deeper skin tones.

You're right about Naked palettes! I have light medium skin tone, and the one naked palette I owned and decluttered looked ashy on even me. I respect Pat so much for her skill, talent, and vision as a makeup artist, and for succeeding so much in an industry with institutional racism, amongst other things, as a BIPOC. I really appreciate the progress I see in the world today, and hope we continue that and support each other.
I was thinking about this, the Naked palettes are abysmal compared to Pat McGrath. I don’t get why brands can’t figure out how to match the level of quality and inclusivity.
I have tan skin and I swear by my Midnight Sun and Bronze Seduction palettes. If you like Viseart, I recommend Milieu and Dark Mattes. Milieu is THE neutral eyeshadow palette for tan-deep girls, no chalky shades, and Dark Mattes is our rainbow palette... 🤩🤩
I only have midnight sun as it's the most usable palette from her range for warm olive skin. I can see why it would rank low by most people. If you look good in warm deep colors, midnight sun is must have!

I only have 3 Motherships. Midnight Sun is my favorite. I find it the most interesting and surprisingly easy to use. The colors work so beautifully together and I love the looks I create. I love Divine Rose 1 and it’s such a wonderful everyday palette. Easy and practical. However, if I did not already have it, I would definitely have purchased Moonlit Seduction which is gorgeous. To my eye, it’s a better version of Divine Rose 1. I know there are no baked shadows but the pressed shadows are sooo beautiful. I also have Deacadence which is a perfect all metallic palette with beautiful one and done shades.
Would love to see an all encompassing PML shadow ranking.
Midnight sun is probably my favorite, I find it very wearable but with fun elements. Fun video! I always love to see rankings!
I own Mothership One and I still use it several times a week. It took me quite long to decide which one might be for me. As I am 45 years old I use make-up up and I have only two eyes to put shadow on 🙃 I am fair and cool toned and I need a palette to be versatile... I am still so happy about my decision! Cool toned shades which can be very day time appropriate (the browns + bright nude), romantic for date night (the lavender!), quite grungy (I love a black smokey eye) or really perfect for events as I work in a creative job with the stunni ng blue. I miss the times when Pat created an interesting, more surprising palette like this.
PM makes her shadows with more depth for those with richer skin tones so I totally get why a lot of us with lighter skin tones don’t necessarily reach for many of our PM palettes as much as perhaps POC. Not saying all POC love their PM palettes but I’ve noticed medium/richer complexioned creators reach for their PM palettes more than lighter skinned creators… and rightly so. We have plenty of palettes geared toward us. I like using my PM palettes but I don’t reach for mine as often because of the depth. I’m okay with that. They’re pricey but I do enjoy the ones I have.
I'm going to agree with you. The newer palettes don't necessarily work for deeper skin tones.
I disagree that the more intense color stories don't work as well for lighter skin tones because the lighter eye shades or setting powder can be utilized to make colors less intense. That's not really possible with darker skin and less pigmented eye shades.

@@TG-jp3tc The richer colors can definitely work on lighter skin tones but for me, personally, I don’t do a lot of smokey/darker looks so anything with a lot of depth isn’t going to be something I reach for as often. I’m no pro so using other colors to make a color lighter isn’t something I’ve tried or know how to do 😅
I actually have light to medium skintone and I use them almost on a daily basis - I love them! PM eyeshadows have such a great formula in that it is so easily buildable and diffuses so beautifully when you blend it. I often start with a light wash of colour in the crease by just tapping the brush in the shadow and then tapping excess off. I actually feel that because of the formula PM shadows are for everyone!
@@TG-jp3tc I do love me some intense color. But I’m a musician 👩🏻🎤 , not your usually pumpkin spice gal 😂 I will buy an eye palette JUST for the bright red shade 🙌🏻
I do think subliminal is def slept on a lot. It's a great neutral palette for layering and pairing with other palettes or singles, though I personally don't like using it alone. I really like Pat Mcgrath and love her sales. I hope that she comes out with a palette that has more contrast in light to dark and in color. Always end up creating beautiful looks with her palettes.

I looove midnight sun ! I have similar feeling when I open DRII , it irritating me more than makes me sad , it was my biggest regret and the beginning of the end of my love for the motherships! After that I got Huetopian dream but passed the Moonlit ! The deeper tones and the 50 shades of fuchsia on PM collection may look amazing on deeper skin tones but terrible on me and I don’t need it and don’t like ! The new “special shades “ on the new mothership isn’t even baked ones , not that special or can’t be duped ! My first pallet was my first love and my number one favourite like yours! Subliminal ❤️
Surprisingly the Midnight Sun is a great everyday work palette! It’s the one I use the most

Oh Midnight Sun is my favorite 😅 I have bought bronze seduction , huetopian dream and the big holiday palette from 2021 and ended up selling them all. Midnight sun is jusr so wearable but with options for pops of colour and the mix of cool and warm tones ❤
So interesting. Really enjoyed this video. My list is essentially your list inverted for the same reasons. The deep shades show up as ‘everyday’ shades on my deep/rich skin tone. Maybe a few switch ups in the middle. But turn your list upside down and there goes my ranking video 🥰
I don't have any PML palettes either, lol. But I enjoy hearing about them and seeing them, because they are beautiful. It's good to go back and revisit the old loves and see if they still hold up.
Love watching these type ranking videos! Crazy how to each their own, as I kind of ranked the 3 I had... Midnight sun for me was number one! I think the mattes are so creamy and perfect and the sparkles, colors are so unique!
As a neutral to warm, medium-tan complected person (in the Summer), and the Midnight Sun palette is my favorite. It's understandable that it's the least popular because it's made for people who can wear Autumn tones and that's not easily done.
Great video, I couldn’t even attempt this yet since I’m waiting on the last one. Though my favorite so far has been Midnight Sun.
Oh yes, subliminal is my absolute favorite followed by dv1, midnight sun, bronze seduction and dv2. Divine rose 2 is where pm lost me. Every release just kept being various shades and tones of pink that I really don't need. I'm trying to stay positive hoping the next release will have a grungier color story, or at least not pink!
For me midnight sun is really a daily palette and I love it because of that 😊

I wish she would come out with a mothership with no pinks and focus on bronze. Like actual bronze tones no oranges or reds. More so murky and grungy bronze tones. Kinda like the new Chanel 01 tweed cuivre but in the mothership formula with the special shades. I’m so so so over the pinks.
I always wanted at least one of a Pat Mg palette. The only Pat products I have are a blush in electric bloom, the concealer and undereye powder. One day I’d love to buy an eyeshadow palette with the Blitz astral shade, as I love shimmers and glitters
I find inspiration from the Midnight Sun palette as the mattes seem drawn from a Zorn palette which included four paint colors yellow ochre, vermillion, flake white and ivory black Even The red is called vermillion in this palette. It inspires the artist in me and encourages color mixing ❤️

Hi Michele, loved the video as always, and love ranking video's!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩I don't use so much PMG eyeshadow anymore, with my eyes getting more often sensitive, but now and than is still use them. But i did not purchase palette 10 anymore. Very nice ranking!!! For me? I love most palette 7, Divine Rose nr. 1, because of that lighter tones, and more easy. Further i love most palette 6, 2, 3, 4, and 1. Palette 5, i gave away to somebody else, i got nervous of the red shade. Palette 8 and 9 are nice, but quite colourful, but i do use them sometimes!!! I love to combine the 3 Divine Rose Story palettes, the 7, 8 and 9, but i always mix and match. Mentioned favorites, i love for the same reasons as you do. I am not surprised at your thoughtful ranking. You are the neutrals queen. I am more adventurous with color, even though I am pretty pale myself. With the grey in your hair, which is beautiful, the cool tones look really great on you. I was going for a grayish lilac hair, for a bit, so cool tones looked better. I now have a reddish purply brown hair that’s called cherry cola, which is great with my medium pale neutral skin tone. I look good in the whole spectrum again. To me, hair color has a lot to do with what makeup looks the best.
I do collect every mothership, but I have too many pallets, including the 9 Motherships, so will wait to get # 10 at a crazy sale.
😂😂😂 Midnight Sun is my number one, and it makes me happy. Despite our disagreement on this, you have excellent taste, and now I am re-thinking my decision NOT to purchase number 10. It did not excite me at all. But I may change my mind, if it goes on sale…🧐
As someone who just clicked on this video without being a previous watcher of your channel it was funny to me that we have almost the opposite taste in eyeshadows that we reach for lol. But it was still super helpful to just see someone hold up the palettes in real life and talk about the formula so still a helpful video :)
I love and have all of her palettes including the 6 pan small ones and the special edition ones. I do love Subliminal palette and the Bronze Seduction! Her Number 3 is my least favorite and your number 10 is probably number 3 for me- I have two of them! Watching has reminded me that I need to start taking them back out again! But I’m never touching my Star Wars palettes either! 🤩
I’m obsessed with the special shades I use them almost every time I do my makeup in different iterations. (Except when I’m doing bright colours like hot pink) I think they’re stunning and beautiful and I need more mothership palettes.

I only have the first 3 six-pan palettes she released, which I still use and love. Something about her color choices and tones make such special looks. I haven’t decided on a large palette yet but I would lean towards Subliminal too! I prefer neutral to slightly cool tones and the rest of her palettes have a warmer tone. This is a brilliant price and it’s so worth it. This is an amazing palette and remember if you stick to the colour story which speaks to you you can’t go wrong with her palettes imho.

Midnight Sun is one of my favourites, you picked well. Many comments above also say the same.
I passed on midnight sun for ages because I saw a few people ranking it a little lower, however there are also a lot of creators ranking it at the top of the list recently...
But I finally bought it because it went on sale and it is now my favourite palette of all time! It is absolutely beautiful.. the copper and the topper shade in midnight sun just cannot be beaten in my opinion. I haven't actually picked up any of my other Pat McGrath palettes since!
The mothership vi is my fave. It's lovely for dark skin. From everyday to glam. Love it

Subversive makes me feel overwhelmed 🤣 I had to sell it as I had no idea what to do with it. Midnight Sun is my go-to for everyday as it’s just so neutral. My all time favourite is Huetopian Dream, I absolutely adore it. It’s so different! But I do keep going back to Moonlit Seduction it’s just stunning.

I love that you take good care of your makeup and keep it looking neat. I know it’s silly but I always cringe when I see a messy palette. How are the shadows holding up? My oldest is sublime and the baked colors behave like new. The powder shades seem more powdery so I am debating getting a new one. The mattes have improved over the years so I wonder if the formulas have been updated in the older palettes. My favorite has long been sublime but subversive is moving up as I use it more. Next is likely Divine Rose. The astrals in Subliminal are my favorite cool tone shades ever but the purple/ grey satin is a terrible color on me. I wish it were a light blue or gray.
I've always enjoy your review on Pat McGrath product. I hope you can do get ready with me with the first Pat McGrath palette one day.

Love the video and your reasons for ranking things the way you do! I laughed because my two faves are your two least faves-Subversive was my first PM MS and it’s still my all time favorite. I just got Midnight Sun on sale recently because it’s been on my want list for a long time and I think it’s gorgeous. But like you said, she has no bad palettes, just ones that I gravitate toward for different reasons :)

PM palettes are beautiful. It's just that they are too dark, dramatic, and glittery for me. I tried to make Divine Rose work for me but in the end I couldn't so I passed it on to someone who would love it. (I hope they loved it.) There is no denying the beauty of a PM palette. :)

My favorite Motherships are your bottom 3! 😄I absolutely agree with your choices though. I am almost at the opposite end of the spectrum skin shade and feature wise. That is exactly why those suit me better compared to, say, the Divine Rose I or the Moonlight Seduction.

Interesting comment from you Michele on Midnight Sun regarding individual shades. Hannah Louise Poston said the same thing, that the palette is made up of individual shades but they dont have friends to go with. I have 3 mothership pallets (including Midnight Sun). I like them but for some reason I dont use them too often.

Here are my top Motherships (the ones I chose to buy, as I don’t like some of her motherships):
1. Moonlit Seduction X
2. Subversive III
3. Midnight Sun VI
4. Bronze Seduction V
5. Subliminal I
6. Huetopian Dream IX
7. Sublime II
I only own one, Divine Rose II, but almost never use it, and when I do, it’s always the same two or three shades. That being said, I did just order Divine Rose I on sale, which I’ve always wanted, but even on sale it’s still more expensive than any other palette in my collection.
I have very fair complection and for the long time I had lot of issues to pick the Mothership pallet for me. Currently I do have divine Rose (VII) was thinking of I, but I think it's enough for me:). I have her smaller pallets but I am not a fan.
Huetopian Dream is my fav ❤️ Im going to get it and would be my 1st Pat Mcgrath palette.

I have all of them, i love them all. I got a Japanese eyes which is not easy to apply eye makeup. But i learned, watch a lot of videos.
Subliminal is my favorite too! But I LOVE midnight sun and subversive, while divine rose is my least favorite…depending on your complexion, divine rose is BORING. Pat created palettes with rich, vibrant looks that work for all complexions , so I’m a forever fan!
I think PM as a brand is in trouble. She has sales ALL the time, which cheapen the brand and make it clear nobody should ever be paying full price. I have Divine Rose 1 & Subliminal and like them, but neither ever made it to a loves list for me. I’d rather buy small, elegant, luxury quads from Dior, CT or Tom Ford than more Motherships.
I see your point but I personally disagree here. Everytime PM comes with a new Mothership everyone gets still excited. It's true that normally people waits for the sales to buy then, but at least I do exactly the same for CT or TF, or any other luxury brand. I don't know in US, but in EU the Mothership prices got increased, so even with the discount at the end we pay more or less the same as the old price was.

@@1tagardina612 in Australia We can get 50%-60% off for the first five pallets individually. Their official website often have 30%off everything including new release. I felt bad for the pallet i paid full price. 🥲
@@1tagardina612 Same in Canada, the prices have risen a lot. I guess for me personally, after having bought two MS’s and liking them but not loving them, I’ve decided a PM Mothership isn’t worth it for me. I spent $110 each on the Tom Ford Metal Lust and Nude Dip and LOVE both of them and use them all the time so don’t feel bad about not waiting for sales as they’re two of my favourite palettes. I just don’t feel like either Mothership palette was worth what I paid for them when it’s only a matter of time before they’re 30% off. Even at 30% off, I’ve realized for me, I’d rather spend more elsewhere and get smaller, more sophisticated palettes. PM is seeming less and less like a luxury, special brand to me with the constant sales and bright/dark/glittery shades. I’m definitely moving towards subtle elegance these days. Now, if she released a Mothership with browns, taupes, champagnes etc… and didn’t focus repeatedly on pinks, golds, corals and reds (think ABH Sultry or Colourpop Going Coconuts), it could pique my interest. The latest Mothership X would probably have gotten me if only the mattes hadn’t been so red leaning!

This was fun! I have a different ranking for some but that’s me and my taste. 🙂 I love all my motherships but I think the one that’s my least favorite is decadence and it’s because when I open it overwhelms me a little bit and I don’t know why. All I can see are one and done shades. 🤷♀️

Michele, can you review the new chantecaille eyeshadow quartet (jaguar, cougar and comparison to giraffe, if possible?)
I say go for the shades you are on the fence with. I mean you are such a creative eye lady and from this angle I feel that with a light hand you could make the more daring colors work...Come to life! and show us a new way of using bright or very dark and saturated colors. I feel if you invest in these palettes you have the duty to serve them justice LOL sorry to be so passionate about it but I feel every single color should be used .Or else why invest in a Mothership!? So Michele my challenge to you is pick your fav ship and show us how you would use each and every color in the compact. That could be a fun video! At least inspiring to me as I'm loving the colors of it ALL!
