    I can only speak for myself as an American, but those soda sizes are insane here. I don’t eat fast food often, but when I do I just get a bottled water. I swear the soda sizes alone are half the reason our country has such an obesity issue.

    • @iu2
      @iu2 Před 2 měsíci +4

      Yes. Historically, soda cans in Korea were tall and slim, containing 250mL, which is 8.5 ounces. American cans are 12 ounces. These days, cans in Korea are 12 ounces, which is in line with the increase in obesity rates. Even movie theaters are selling giant sodas, which was unheard of two decades ago.

      I think the sugar industry in the US has been abusing consumers forever. Very, very addictive.

    • @iu2
      @iu2 Před měsícem +4

      @janicewolk6492 Yes, because the sugar industry has led a campaign since the 1960s to blame fat for heart disease, when it's sugar that causes heart disease, not fat. The increased consumption of sugar is directly correlated with heart disease rates. This is causation, not just correlation. But don't get carried away with fats. Vegetable (seed) oil is almost as bad as sugar.

And then, I'm also quite surprised about the size of your house. Maybe I sound ignorant here but many (if not most) Korean people I watched here in CZcams seemed to stay in a rather cramped, small apartment, so yours is quite a refreshing view. Thought fewer people live in landed property. Just wondering if you stay in the countryside? The journey you filmed on your car always seemed so peaceful. Love it. In Canada the fast foo places adopted American sizing on soft drinks as well, with free refills. The new American small drink size was our Canadian standard regular or medium so quite a bit more so we always get small rather than medium in the past. For enjoying time alone i am the same way, changed when i had kids as i had to get them to sports/friends and get togethers but not that they are adults i get my quiet me time back and I love it. One last thing please try the McDouble from McDonalds, best burger on their menu and you can get a McDouble combo with an extra McDouble for the same price or less that the Quarter Pounder combo. I find it taste very similar however is less dry / more moist and seeing it is a smaller burger you compensate by getting 2 and the overall cost is less. Cheers, i enjoy watching your content.

    Dude, just an average American man here. South Korea is awesome, I lived there a year while in the US Air Force and it was a great experience. Picked up chopsticks but it took several months. Very sad to hear the birthrates are so low. We need more South Korea in the world. It made me laugh when you mentioned not drinking alcohol which made it unpleasant to hang out with friends in the evening - hahahah. So true! Not drinking in SK is a problem, cuz most Koreans are getting as drunk as we do in the USA :-) I've spent my whole life not really liking alcohol but drinking anyway because almost all my friends drink and I like hanging with my friends. It's hard to navigate! Just drink enough to be with friends and never drink alone to reset. The older you get, the harder it is to stay a true introvert - just a fair warning :-) I have two tricks: start slow, just sip and nurse your drinks, then after everyone else is five drinks in and your one drink in, then pick up the pace with a few drinks to end the night on a high note - but it's hard, your friends know if you're nursing your drink and not keeping up - they will pick on your ruthlessly. It's good to see how the younger generation is having the exact same problems I've always had. The second trick only works when not at a bar or restaurant, but out with friends at a lake/pool/park/backyard/etc. I bring an eye dropper bottle of whiskey, some bitters and zero calorie fruit sodas and make super light mixed drinks with just four shots of eye dropper whiskey in each can. That works, I'm still going through the ritual of emptying cans with friends and it has some alcohol, not none. At the end of the night I've had maybe one to 1.5 whole shots.

    • @roberto344

      My year in SK was brutal for the drinking. My SK friends would take us downtown and drink us under the table, my American coworkers would drink me under the table. Beer machines right outside my dorm door in the AF barracks. We didn't lose a single airman to the NK's, but we would lose a few who'd get lost in the snow and die, just trying to get back to base completely hammered. I had to drag a friend out of an iced over bingo ditch in the winter and get him back on base, he'd have been one of the ones who died if I hadn't pulled him out - he was so drunk he had no idea what was happening. He stumbled to the bank to pee and the bingo ditch just ate him, the more he struggled the wetter he got.

    Hi there, from the UK. Sad to see you tucking into fast food when you have such a wonderfully healthy food culture there in SK. I guess its Friday night, so its what I call 'comfort food night'. I do the same. The world-wide fast food culture is doing more harm to us all than we like to believe, I'm talking of Ultra Processed Foods, leading to obesity and even more dangerous health conditions. You Koreans have the natural advantage of being slim and generally petite (no offence meant), but its a good starting point. -Kimchi forever!

Unfortunately, there is not MaccyD's anywhere near where I live now. I am also a non-drinker; however, that does not stop me from socialising. You have really beautiful plants in your house. Did you know that plants reduce carbon dioxide and convert it into oxygen. Healthy humidity also improves the quality of the air in your house. Research has shown that having plants in your home reduces stress. Being able to see the greenery of plants around you has a calming effect, lowering blood pressure and consequently making you feel more relaxed and ultimately, happier. The plants are also an effective and natural way to get rid of cigarette smoke odours and pollutants.

      Perhaps, but I like the fact that we have someone from both countries who is sharing their personal lives with us. It seems both countries are having similar hardships.

    Hope you get to working on that birth rate problem over there. To that end, be careful with junk food and plastics…not good for sperm production. Or anything else.

    That English is American, as is the accent. He said he was only in the US briefly, so derivation of the accent is interesting.

    I think you are average
    It would be good if you bring up human rights so we can talk about the average Korean and life. Korean but everyone sees the same things you are talking about a lot of things if that makes sense. I know there are a lot of suicides in Korea. Most suicides are committed in Korea because of loneliness and the elderly feel lonely and they feel that they have left all the support. The suicide rate in Korea is the highest in the world. South Korea currently has the highest overall suicide rate of any country worldwide. The suicide rate among women in South Korea is significantly higher than that of women in any other country. Nevertheless, suicide is commonly more prevalent among men than women., that in Korea there are 12-20 hour working days. I know that Korea is very interested in concerts. I know 99% of people don't speak the languages in Korea or Japan. I know that significant human rights issues included credible reports on: restrictions on freedom of expression, including the use of criminal defamation laws; government corruption; and laws criminalizing consensual same-sex sexual conduct in the military. During the first six months of the year, there were 22 suicide cases in the army. Local NGOs believed that bullying, barking and violence contributed to some of these. Non-governmental organizations and media reported such mistreatment of subordinates by senior military personnel, as well as credible allegations of sexual harassment and abuse. Internet freedom
    The government restricted the use of the Internet. The Korea Communications Standards Commission, a quasi-government media monitoring agency, blocked websites it deemed harmful. Most blocked sites were related to gambling, illegal food or drugs, or pornography. The commission also blocked North Korean propaganda on CZcams and X (formerly Twitter). While viewing websites praising the DPRK regime was legal, disseminating information about those websites, including posting links to them, was illegal, according to the NSL. Access to basic services: Cultural, linguistic and social differences made adaptation difficult for refugees and asylum seekers. Many migrants from North Korea, China and other countries claimed they faced social discrimination and were not always offered access to basic services. These cases were often under-reported. Some children of immigrants suffer from discrimination and a lack of social resources, such as childcare benefits provided to Korean children. Some children who are not Korean or of different ethnic groups were bullied because of their physical appearance.
    Many migrant workers faced discrimination in the workplace. LGBTQI+ youth experienced isolation and mistreatment in schools, including bullying and harassment by teachers and fellow students, lack of confidential mental health support, and gender identity discrimination against transgender youth. Schools are based on class divisions, toilets and uniform rules regarding biological sex. Why do you make pages like this but you don't tell the truth about Korea. Read more and find out things that are self-explanatory about other than you.
