- This is a tactical RPG that I had high hopes for, but I was somewhat disappointed by it. Also, this game was called 'Rebus' in Japan.

This was the first original game i've played on playstation and I was suprise how this was not famous back then. i think this game is underrated personally.
Hold on a sec. Blockbuster rental exclusive? That's ridiculous! These TRPG/SRPG are the sort of game you'd sink months into, not rush through over a week or weekend. No wonder this isn't more well known!
I remember playing the PVP mode of Kartia where you could load safefiles and pick party members for your battle.
Toxa was so strong that only another Toxa could endanger him. Alanas magic was able to do little damage too, but everyone else was useless against him.
Troy actually is my favorite character in Lacryma's gang :D
he's a loveable jerk
Kartia is a game that I've been wanting to get my hands on for some time now. Love me some strategy RPG's and having the artwork done by Yoshitaka Amano doesn't hurt either. ;) Good video!
Play it You won't regret
Man you nailed Troy as Beavis 😂 😂😂😂😂
This game seems interesting enough for me to want to try it! But I always want my games complete when I buy them so this one might be a bit pricey! Another awesome review! Great video and keep up the good work!
Games like this is why Atlas Games is much needed in this industry
Kick ass review! You taught me something today... I kept pining for a manual for my copy but its the BB version, so TECHNICALLY my copy is complete! Hahahaha. I really need to play this, it does look cool, despite some flaws. Keep up the good work, sir.
Well I'm sure the BB version did have a manual, but you now how things go with rentals. The manuals always seemed to get lost.
Damn it. Back to incomplete. lol
Wow, I had no idea this was originally a Blockbuster exclusive. I wasn't doing a lot of renting in the PS1 era, so I remember when it first hit game stores. It must have been available at Blockbuster a good bit earlier.
I completely missed it during the PS1 era. Didn't realize it existed until I was given a strategy guide for it a couple years ago.
This game was a gem back in the day. I used to come home from school and jump straight on it
One of my all time favorites along with Wild ARMs - nostalgia plays a big factor as I do agree there are better games out there when it comes to graphics and gameplay. However I simply loved the story and the characters and music
Great review! I always loved the Amano artwork, but just couldn't get into the game when other fantastic SRPGs were available.
I kind of had to force myself to play this game. Too bad the gameplay wasn't on the same level with the story and characters.
That was a fun review for an obscure Atlus title.
Thanks!
i played alittle of this just to try it out and i liked it but it started out pretty difficult. i would not mind getting a copy of it if the price was decent. good review and that voice at the starting was funny as hell
Thanks lol. The first couple of battles are kind of tough because of the Phantoms weighing your party down. Once you ditch them things become much, much easier. Your party will get a lot stronger in a hurry.
This was an enjoyable review. Thanks for the upload.
There is always one text that I could not get to unlock the Fynus phantom. I already dig the shit out of every land using earthquake magic but no luck.
If i remember right thier is a trick to getting it in the arena area gl xD
Wanted to see some info on the game and look who was the first creator on the list when I searched!!
So you can choose between two characters Zidane and Celes.
She does look very similar to Celes lol.
You mean Locke and Terra? lol
I loved this game. And it's intro. This game is extremely underrated.
I had this game as a kid. I didn't understand what you were suppose to do. I never made it far
I don't see that many reviews with regards to Kartia. I think too many people think Atlus title, so therefore its gotta be worth some money and leave it at that. This is one of the games missing from my ps1 collection and I'll happily add it to the collection so I can play it even if its a mediocre game at best.
I hope your Completionist strategy doesn't involve maxing out Phantoms, because it can be quite frustrating trying to keep them alive.
1:29, well we (Beavis & Butthead fans) have patience for them, you don’t. It’s that simple.
I used to be a big fan of the show, but got sick of the constant laughing. Watching them make fun of bands was pretty fun.
Nostalgia
Love me some kartia one of my favorite games on ps1
lmao, he looks like Bevis
When i was in highschool this is the first rpg i played.. But i thought this game was called Tactics as its written in the box.. Yeah i guess pirated copies arent reliable..
One of my favorites on the PlayStation.
Lacryma is Terra
recently i tried to play this game.. but i can't .. too slow
You'd think having the whole game in english and the menu in Japanese was stressful. Lol Other then that I fking loved this game.
I've recently grown interest in TRPGs/SRPGs , and someone mentioned me to check this game out.
Looks like I'll skip this one for now.
Yeah, there are much better TRPG/SRPGs out there.
Give it a chance you won't regret, Kartia is one of the best rpg tactis on earth trust me
That game is so hard…
Nice review, hha haa haa...
Sounds and looks a _little_ like Eternal Eyes for PS1, but... shittier, if we're being honest. The system of improving your puppets in that game was very good and essential for creating your team, since you don't get a human companion until NG+. Losing your puppets is still a big deal, though. You don't want them to die because they turn back into lvl 1 dolls that need an orb to turn into a useful monster again and at that point they're likely to be so far behind the rest of your team you might as well ignore them, otherwise you'll be grinding them back up with old/extra battles before getting back to the story missions you've yet to do.
Still, if I wanted an alternative to Eternal Eyes, I would absolutely consider picking this one up. It doesn't look incredible, the art style is even worse, but the presentation isn't bad. I'd absolutely use the monsters, though, because preset humans are boring. Eternal Eyes understood that, which is why the only one you use is the main character and that's it.
I actually like Kartia.
Dude, you nailed the annoying GameFaqs know-it-all game snob voice, at least as far as it can be imagined.
I don't think I ever watched more than an episode or two of Beavis and Butthead, that brand of humor only runs so far with me.
It must be typical for games at the time (RPGs especially) to feature a spectacular intro sequence that the rest of the game struggles to stand up to visually. The character models during combat are decent enough but the pop-up portraits leave a bit to be desired.
The strategy elements seem competent enough and remind me of Advance Wars what with remaining health dictating damage done (as far as I can glean anyway).
Non-user-friendly menu screens must hurt the overall experience though; I can appreciate an old-school game but there's a point at which some of these games push it into the archaic category.
Great coverage! You're really building your repertoire of turn-based game knowledge.
I needa review on hoshigami ps1 booo
“Well actually Kartia is a tactical turn based role playing game blah!🤓😂😂
I tried to like this game but ended up hating for all these years.
I bought most the Atlus games on the PS1.. This one was the hardest game to get into for me..just boring
It's quite a bummer because the stuff Atlus publishes is usually very entertaining.
