Get Off This - Rough Cut

  • In 2016, I and many of my fellow loyal Crumbs spent $75K on Kickstarter to fund this film about David Lowery. The producers made the film...but didn't secure the rights to the music featured in the movie. (Genius.) Hence, it was never released. This video is a rough cut. Comments welcome. I am making no money off this; rather, I am simply sharing with other loyal Crumbs for their enjoyment. Enjoy.

I really enjoyed the part where everyone calls David an asshole. He's definitely my favorite asshole. What a talent. Such an under-rated song writer.

Johns little tribute to the Stepmothers near the beginning when he say to the crowd "inland empire" amd hits that short chord

One of the most underrated songwriters of our time. David has literally mastered every musical genre he's tackled. He tells stories in an honest and meaningful way. It's too bad they've never hit the "big time" but he's an absolute Icon to me. I'll continue to see every show possible until David and Johnny hang it up. Thanks so much for this.

The song Mexican Chickens on David's solo album In The Shadow Of The Bull is an amazingly honest song and really demonstrates his maturity as a writer. A must listen.

I can't help but notice how much David reminds me of one of his contemporaries, Quentin Tarantino. They have the same mannerisms. I hope he'd take that as a compliment.

Totally captivating. David's an inspirational figure and maverick, surrounded by terrific, true blue talent. I was a latecomer, jumping on board with the release of Key Lime Pie. It's been a rewarding experience ever since. Thanks to those who brought this film into being.

Consider myself lucky for living in Richmond during Cracker's heyday. Saw them tons of times, but the absolute best show was at the now defunct Flood Zone when they were touring to promote their debut album. Never forget Davey came out in a long shirt, by the second or third song he took it off to reveal his sequin dress ... and the show only got better from there. It was also really cool to run into David or Johnny around town ... everyone basically would leave them alone (Richmonders are too apathetic to outwardly act like they give a shit), but we were thrilled to have them represent our town.

Yes. That was a good time. And I was at that flood zone show. The acoustic shows up in Ashland are great too.

I am so impressed with this movie. Thank you David Lowery for showcasing both the brilliance and talent of those you have worked with, the challenges of group dynamics, as well as the games played in the music industry and the corruption tech distribution of music. Surprised to find this movie hear on CZcams… may all the proceeds go to those who made the movie & the artists profiled ❤

That was fucking great. The music placements were especially well thought out and executed, it's a shame they didn't secure the rights. Good job to all involved from one who was not involved.

In the 80's; growing up in a home in Indiana with 3- 45's records and no cable, I stumbled upon CVB's 1st record, Black Flag's Everything went Black and Eat your Paisley by the Dead Milkmen, were around the same time, which set me on a pretty righteous path.

absolute favorite band of mine. Pure genius, ITS rock , soul, blues, country. Laughing, and sad songs that take me to better times, also take me back to down sides of my life. Mostly for me this band is a fucking time machine. PLAY IT TILL i CRUMBLE....

I heard CVB on KFJC in ‘86. Saw them in SF that fall. I had no idea he hailed from Redlands. I have always admired his work and how effortlessly he made it look. Really though, he deserves his success because he never stopped working. He also has championed songwriters rights. The digital age has revealed the heartlessness behind the Silicon Valley. I appreciate David more than ever and am glad for this documentary. Very great work. Chalk up another great Californian songwriter.

Wow Michael. Thank you for sharing. I have a mix of emotions watching this film. The biggest one is sadness that this is not an official release where the makers and the band can benefit. Especially after watching the film and learning of David L's mission to educate artists on getting their share. Is there a future for this film to be released more formally?

Great film, as a big fan I really enjoyed it! Just wondering why no China mention? I have pics and video clips from their China run in Beijing and Shanghai if you want to fit something in. I took them around myself and David did a lot of IPR promotion there, in a strict Chinese Communist Party environment, supported by the U.S. government.

What's Ol' Red mean "nobody comes from here" how 'bout Joan Baez (Redlands), Sammy Hager (Fontana), Jim Messina (Colton), Keith and Norman aka "Ian" (Riverside), Brian Stakkman (East Riverside), Bob Nye (La Sierra) just to name a few. Oh yeah, and the hippist dude of them all, ME! (Mira Loma)
