  • Cucumbers tend to give indigestion and heartburn to some people. Here is a cucumber (which is not actually a cucumber) that tastes like a cucumber and looks like a cucumber and never gives indigestion or heartburn. This is Armenian Cucumber which belong to the family of Melons. Cucumbers tend to go bitter if watering is not consistent. However, Armenian Cucumbers always tastes good and produce a lot more than regular cucumber and you get a lot more harvest per pound or kg per plant. So enjoy the taste of fresh cucumber all summer long with this easy to grow Armenian Cucumber.

    I used to eat them when I would visit Syria in the summer as a kid. Haven't seen them in any supermarkets here in the US so I started growing them last year. It was a great success and better than traditional cucumbers! I also grew Striaght-8 and Wisconsin pickling cucumbers but they were very bitter so this year I'm only going to grow Armenian cucumbers. I have a couple different varieties I'm going to try.

    Been growing these for a couple of years now...and they are fantastic! Very easy to grow/minimal effort (assuming you have good soil). All you really have to do is water them. Here's tip: IF you trellis them, the fruit will grow straight (gravity/hanging keeps them growing downward)

    Howdy! Jag. New subscriber here from Katy, TX. We are starting to grow our crops and cucumbers is one of them. My grandbabies love munching on cucumbers and with prices of everything here going higher and higher, we decided to grow our own. You mentioned about Armenian cucumbers, so I told my daughter to find out where we can get the seeds from. It seems like it is much easier to grow than a regular cucumber. Anyway, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your content is very informative for a new grower like me. Thank you.

    Yes! I happened to buy an Armenian cucumber last year at Green Acres, and got at least one big cucumber a day. Great texture and good flavor. I couldn’t find it this year, so planted a couple other odd longer varieties. But the varieties I got this year are the type that don’t ripen evenly, and always comes out oddly shaped.

    Hello! I love cucumbers, and they are growing well in my northeast zone 6 garden. It appears that I am going to have a huge harvest this year. I love to use the cucumber for juicing. Will these cucumbers grow well in the northeast? Watermelons do not do well in my region. I do not have enough time for them to develop. My cucumbers have great soil, and they are under oak trees so that the ground does not dry out quickly. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

      @@DaisyCreekFarms yes, that's why i edited that comment. I didn't watched the full video before commenting. Just commented after seeing that CUCUMBER at it's first look lol.
      Btw there is a high fruiting real.cucumber variety called "east west Nazia f1" . it's sown from feb to may in khariff crops.
      Best cucumber variety for high fruiting in open field.

    Cucurbitaceae is the family of melons, cucumbers, squashey, pumpkins, zucchini - saying this as a biologist. Plz give precise infos about soil pH, trellising and other factors. What is the botanical name?

      @@DaisyCreekFarms thank you, feeling inspired. I already found an online shop for the seeds and have a tiny growhouse. Next year I will start with them in April because July is too late now says the shop information. Namaskar. Do they need more sun than cucumbers?

    Cucumber, and Armenian cucumber are both in the melon family, Cucurbitacea. Nice video as always, but this is bad botany/taxonomy. :)

    • @DaisyCreekFarms
      @DaisyCreekFarms  Před 4 lety

      Yes but they are separate categories. Cucumbers are cucumis stavus and Armenian cucumbers are cucumis melos. Then Melos have many different varieties. Similar to both cats and dogs being mammals but then dogs have many different varieties. Correct me if I am wrong, I always want to learn more :)

      @@DaisyCreekFarms By categories you mean species I'll assume. The fact that both of these cucumbers share not only the same family(cucurbitacea) but the same genus(cucumis) means they are very closely related, that is why I have a problem with the statement of "I'll let you in on a secret, Armenian cucumbers are in the melon family." As if to imply that regular cucumbers are not.

      The 'regular' cucumber looks like a pickling cucumber. What's regular for you if it isn't the Armenian cucumber, might be the English or European cucumber.
