People either complain that VR is progressing too fast … or too slow … never noticing the hypocrisy .
Meta is progressing extremely fast in multiple areas of VR and MR . Dropping the 3S allows them to make better games sooner . Quest 2 will have support for a while but it has to be left behind to progress further .
People need to pick one . Do they want VR to progress faster or slower because the opinions contradict themselves all the time lol .

Meawhile my Rift CV1 still runs the latest Steam VR /PCvr games... Sio why shouldn't the quest 2? Like have a quest 2 graphics option like what Xbox does these days.

Agreed 100%. I think if Quest 2 goes end of life in late 2025, early 2026, that's a 6-7 year run. Decent for a console.

@@GreenBlueWalkthrough plus the faster that quest stand alone stuff progresses the closer pcvr and stand alone pcvr from the beginning start running into each other . When that happens they are more likely to get new pcvr exclusives . Even if that takes longer the quest games will look great on pcvr when quest matches the older stuff .
Not to mention if they pull off cloud pcvr the motivation to have new pcvr comes up too. Getting to where everyone wants will happen , it’s just time at this point. I would rather faster personally . Will it be messy ??? Well , yea but better then not seeing things in or lifetimes that it looks like we are now . Full speed ahead I say

@@GreenBlueWalkthrough The quest 2 is STANDALONE. The Rift S/Rift CV1 and other pcvr hardware uses your PC processing power. So your pc is doing most of the heavy lifting. But with the quest 2/3, it has to do that all by its self using its own hardware.

    Nice rundown! Thx.

I'm very curious if the quest 3s will move the needle.

In terms of widespread adoption, I doubt it, but if it gets 30% or more of the remaining Quest 2 base to upgrade, that's still millions sold, better than what's currently on the market. I don't see it as the turning point to tens or hundred(s) of million of users though.

@@liveopenmike That seems realistic, and I imagine targeted advertising (quest 2 users particularly) would work wonders.

With exclusive Quest 3 games coming like Batman and hitman 3 I can pretty much guarantee they're going to sell some headsets

I realize the 3s is supposed to be the entry level device that brings the ppl who don't want to spend the extra money to go to the quest 3. However I think it's a mistake to not go with the finer grained IPD adustment mechanism from the quest 3, or quest 1, then smaller sweet spot of the fresnel lenses would benefit more from being able to make the adjust match the user ipd vs the 3 sized must make due that the quest 2 used.

Spot on video Mike. It’s a great idea by Meta to move to a new generation quicker.

Yeah, though I tend to underestimate how tightly people will cling to their preferred headset. I know people still using the OG Rift and DK1s.

Any thoughts on Google entering the fray.

Google flakes on products (Stadia, Google Glass) that don't give a near immediate return on investment. My concern with them is similar to Sony. VR isn't a primary driver for either company, so how long will they stay committed if it's not making them money quickly? I don't worry about Apple. They, almost to a point of stubbornness, will stick with a product (other than the Pippin).
If Google is still in it a year or 18 mos after their headset launches and the marketing and effort is still there, then I'll buy in that they're playing the long game.

Good points. I was a Daydream fan. Very smooth experience. Nice design, etc. would be awesome if they could recapture that magic.

I ahree 100% and to add... This makes more sense of a quest 2s then a 3s. Which hoestly is the biggest issue and thats easy to change. But yeah in terms of vaule it depends on how low they go... If it's $200 easly beats the quest 3 for best vaule in a single consumer device beit you switch,PS2 or iphone... if not still a good deal and my be best if someone wants a meta quest headset not a 3rd party one if those can be cheaper... For me I'd rather get an crashed into the ground Aple vision pro to go with my Rift and quest 3 or that limited edtion Xbox quest 3 if it's just made for MR streaming at a good price sub $500.

Yeah, I was calling it Quest 3 Lite until the 3S name started floating around. To me this sits right between those two headsets. I don't see myself getting another headset for awhile unless there's a true value add in it. I'm certainly not a collector. lol
