The Gibson Les Paul Standard debuted in 1958, was discontinued just two years later and was revived in 1968. It was British guitar legends such as Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton who proved America’s “Standard” was-and is-an absolute megastar of tone. Today, although 1957-1960 models are more prized by collectors, original 1968 and 1969 Standards still command tens of thousands of dollars.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard ’60s Limited Edition delivers the vintage vibe of those groundbreaking guitars, but in a brand new, ready-for-you model. This stunning reissue features a mahogany body, AAA-figured maple top, ’60s-style SlimTaper mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, two Gibson Burstbucker 61 humbuckers (based on vintage PAF pickups), Grover Rotomatic machine heads and ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge.
“I’m a big fan of classic rock and heavy guitar riffs, and when I think of my heroes like Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Susan Tedeschi, a lot of them played the iconic Les Paul,” says Los Angeles session guitarist and online educator Angela Petrilli. “I really enjoy the texture, nuance and character a Les Paul brings. It can be a very delicate instrument when it needs to be, but it can also punch you and be very guttural. Compared to a ’50s Les Paul Standard, I would say the ’60s models have a bit more bite and roundedness. When I play a Les Paul, I’m looking for a chunky, round sound. I want something that feels like a nice, warm blanket.”

A few months ago, I had to decide between the 50 and 60. I went with the 50 in a Dirty Lemon Burst. I bought it at Guitar Center and they were really helpful. I just like the 50's Standard better. I prefer the bigger neck and the aged gold top hat knobs and the vintage tuners. For some reason the vintage tuners seem tighter and make tuning easier. I have a 1960 Classic reissue from 2001 and it has vintage tuners and top hat knobs but it does have a 60's neck. All good as long as it's not Murphy Lab. Won't pay for damaged stuff. I can do that on my own.
Guitar Center needs to start taking pictures and weights of individual guitars like other retailers do, at least when they're $2500-$3,000 and up. I own over a dozen Gibsons and would NEVER buy a Les Paul from Guitar Center (or any other retailer) sight unseen with no knowledge of what the figuring looks like, how much it weighs, what the fretboard looks like or if there are factory flaws. I know you do this for *some* one of a kind guitars but you need to do this for the high end production guitars too if you expect people to order them online. Not only that, many of these sit in a store and get handled, so they are no better than a "demo". At least consider photographing and weighing the stock in your warehouse that hasn't been hung on a wall.

I completely agree that I would never buy a guitar from Guitar Center without seeing it in person.
@@dv8322 Well, you can see them "in person" at a store *if* they actually have any in stock, which is not often. The last time I walked into a Guitar Center they had two Gibsons... one SG and one Les Paul.... and neither looked "new" anymore. Of course, they can order you one but then you still have to pay for it and won't know what it will look like until it gets there, hence the problem.

🙌🙌🙌 So glad Angela got this gig.
Anything with Angela Petrilli .... count me in. Good move, GC. Beautiful! The guitar too.
Happy for Angela, representing Gibson and Guitar Center. I need to get a Les Paul one of these days.
Nice demo Angela!
Angela is amazing and her demo really helps this LP shine!!!
Angela is the best! Listen to her album
I love how she stops and takes a moment to explain things, she's not just jamming and flipping switches, has a great rationale on why and what she's playing and how it could be used in a song.
She’s mediocre at best and sounded best when she stopped playing. Why are you afraid to be truthful?
I picked up a used Epiphone version from GC for around $300 because I suck and barely learning anything about guitars at 42 years old. 👴🏽 🎸
Stick with it. It's a long process, but you'll get better before you know it.
Remember to have fun. Tons of YT guitar channels will keep bringing you to scales, shapes and theory but it's a lot more fun to just learn a couple of chords and notes and play around with them till you get comfortable. Then you'll find something of your own that sounds good and is fun to play.
I enjoyed guitar much more when I took the work out of it and stopped trying to sound like the pros. I'm not going to be Eddie Van Halen and that's ok.
Her technique is the epitome of textbook perfect. You can tell that from day 1 of her guitar journey she's always been painstakingly diligent about this. Not that there aren't any amazingly fantastic guitar players out there that don't adhere to any rules. That works for some people. But Angela's adherence to technique clearly plays a huge role in her virtuosity. Unimaginable heights are more attainable if you've built a large solid foundation to launch from, and she's testament of that.
She's moving on no more Norm no longer sweet little Angela

@@user-xw2it9ty5n Great for her. She deserves it. She's been working hard. I honestly don't know how she finds time to do it all. But sucks for us. I'm gonna miss seeing her playing small venues right near my home where I don't have to deal with traffic and large crowds. I suspect those days are just about over.
Yeah the riff at the start sounds cool but I think it gets a bit muddy with the pedals later on In to it. Jimmy Page and Angus Young actually played relatively clean through cranked Marshals with natural warm break up, Just some friendly constructive criticism❤
You make me want to buy one of these guitars, Angela. I've always loved the sound of a Les Paul, just so rich and fat. ❤
I couldn't help but hear a little bit of China Grove in the intro. I love nostalgia.
Two of the most beauties :)
I’d hoped to hear the guitar instead I got a demo of pedals
I think I sold Angela a Les Paul when she was a teenager.🤘
Angela Petrilli needs to come back and review guitars...I have seen her on Norms rare guitars youtube channel she knows what she is talk about.
Oh my, that is pretty les paul!
💯 8:39
Like she says, a warm blanket. I need a beefy 50's neck though! I see those silver top knobs and look elsewhere!
Aw gee sus why all of that distortion, they all make a din with the distortion but WHAT DOES THE GUITAR SOUND LIKE ?
I'm trying to learn 'Over the Hills and Far Away' from her☆
Related to Al Pitrelli?
Because it's like a workhorse 5:35
What color is this?
Bourbon burst
Tri burst
She mentioned every difference between the 50s and the 60s except for the most important thing, the neck thickness. That’s the reason I would never buy a 50s and only own 60s.
Seriously!
So many great colors and Gibson keeps recycling the same tired burst that does not scream Limited Edition.
Hey i know her
It's like instead of cowboy chords you have , horse chord's like a MOTORCYCLE 🏍️ SORRY I DON'T HAVE A HARLEY-DAVIDSON EMOJI 4:21 YOU KNOW THE IRON HORSE 🐎 5:24
! ! !
#AngelaPetrilli ÷ a Gibson Les Paul 60s Burst + #CryBabyWah Filthy Nasty Savage Rock!!!
Fenders and Gibsons are so much money anymore and often with questionable quality (The Mexican-made Teles and Strats are junk now compared to what they were like 20 years ago) which is why people are turning to Fireflys, Sires, AIO/Wolf guitars, Harley Bentons, and so many other more affordable alternatives. I have a $140 Firefly Tele copy that I play more than my $2400 Select Strat (which I also love but just don't play much). Sadly, unless, they wake up, GC is going to go the way of Sam Ash soon.
Sorry Gibson and Angela you’re cute and a nice person probably but you’re very, very modestly talented. Be a dudes queen and have babies and live happily ever after. I think she’s cute but lol power chords I mean POWER CHORDS!?! That’s the first thing she thinks to play during a demo showcase?!?? Cmon lol
Well we know what the overdriven amp sounds like, I thought this was a review of the sound of the guitar... Any guitar, and I mean any guitar can sound like this demo. There are a myriad of these derivative mundane videos out there, that showcase the same boring unimaginative cardboard overdriven mush that we are supposed to aspire to?
... Sounds like a Les Paul...
For me these Standards are not doing what a Les Paul should be doing. They can be lively and expressive guitars, but this sounds muddy and dark.
Turn the treble up on your amps and drop the bass a bit. Also, it's YT. It's not gonna sound like how they do in real life.
What pickups would you prefer? Just curious
It’s the player here, not the guitar. She’s heavy handed.
I think it’s her pedals that are making it darker and not lively.
You realize there's something called an EQ........ it depends how each person sets it all up. She also played a lot on the neck pickup towards the end.
The 60s Standard is actually very bright. Some people consider it "too" bright.

Ok it’s an overpriced AAA, it’s all about the amp, my 2010 epi plus top sounds incredible through a good tube amp…🤠
