    Since the 1950s, ideological dissidents within the Pakistan Army-socialists, Islamists and plain-vanilla malcontents-have repeatedly tried to seize power. Coups may have failed, but they tell us the Army is a hotbed of intense political struggles. General Asim Munir is seeking to stamp out support for former Prime Minister Imran Khan, but without any success in fixing Pakistan’s economic and social problems, he’s unlikely to succeed.
