- Tour our one-of-a-kind Airstream Jungle Home built in an intentional eco village in Costa Rica. This is just part one of what our home will eventually look like. We have so many fun ideas and much more Airstream renovations to do, but this is where we are at and we are SO happy with how everything has turned out. We absolutely love living here.

I LOVE it all ....but I think I could live in that bathroom !! SO dreamy......
Jajaja right?! It's so big! Gotta give it a nice paint soon. I'm going to try line wash so it looks like an old ruin. Very early looking.
I love it. Just one thing I'd add. Even if it's more expensive, in Costa Rica I definitely suggest adding windows screens to all windows and sliding doors. The mosquitoes will eat you alive. Otherwise you'll have to constantly buy and use bug repellent.
Mosquitos aren't a problem where we are. We barely see any to be honest. In both dry and rainy season. We did put screens on most of the windows though. Just not the doors
I live in an area that didn't have mosquitoes, but due to El Niño the weather is off its regular pattern, and so they showed up.
Is theft not an issue there? How does it work not being able to lock up your home?
The community has security and we can lock up our airstream and office space. The rest of the house will also be enclosed and be able to lock as well
@clairenevans6877 if you just place a wood stick of the same length of the sliding door in the inside of the house it can't be opened. 😂
We actually live nearby in Atenas for now and bought land near San Mateo. Beautiful home! 💚

Love that you guys took health into consideration when designing! Things like mold, termites, bugs, longevity (concrete), Humidity etc. While still staying eco friendly with materials and solar.
Thank you! We originally wanted all super eco friendly materials but we spent the last 2 years living in different houses in Costa Rica and learning about what works and doesn't which I'm so grateful for. I'm so glad we chose all the materials we did.

So amazing, I wonder do you always feel safe with such open space living? I know Louis’s van was broken into. Also do you guys have easy access to health care/hospitals? I know these are all very ‘normie’ questions😂❤️
Yes we feel. The community has security and we have an additional security system plus we are enclosing the space so it can all lock up.
It’s my dream house I would love my to live in a trailer/house in that type of style in a tropical climate. Oh my God, you’re so inspired into me.

I also came from Raya and Louis's channel. The house looks absolutely amazing! I had one question though which is how do you keep the interior of the airstream cool in hot weather? I'd imagine it could get fairly hot in there on a boiling hot day.
So nice to have you here! Welcome :) since we have such a large overhang (2 metres), it's never in sun! Our place is pretty much always in the shade so it doesn't get that hot. Plus the mountains winds are pretty consistent. We barely use our fans and haven't used our AC even once.

Question, will you ever build/construct bedrooms that are part of the house not just bedrooms within the airstream?
We will build an entirely other house eventually. That's the current plan but we may end up just expanding this one even more. The possibilities are endless!

Is the airstream fully enclosed inside the glass doors or is the back side open to outside? It looks amazing. Such a cool idea! ❤
Right now its exposed but we are building these wood slat walls with screens and a little something special I can't mention yet! The front will have a large door and sliding windows as well. We just haven't added those yet. Thanks so much!

Hey guys im a local, you want to find something to cover up the car's side of the house, because it seems it's permanently open, when it rains, not only the mud is going to come down, pile up, and jump that little "step" but also winded rain is going to soak the entire house since the mini droplets can travel like 5 meters inside.
Rainy season starts in about 2 months from now, so you have time to consider it.
Thank you for this! We will be enclosing the rest of it over the next few weeks and adding cement to the back area so it won't be muddy there. Lots to do to prepare for rainy season!

Grass is not ecological or water efficient. I'd skip the grass and just have an outdoor place to gather more with plants. Was wondering if all the walls would eventually have sliding panels including where the Airstream is parked? Love the concept of it with all the sliding panels.

This is so dreamy! I’m currently overcoming a serious mold issue in my old Florida home. I love how you took that into consideration. May I ask how much this has cost you so far?
I'm so sorry you're dealing with mold. I know how tedious and stressful that can be. I hope it gets sorted out soon for you. Our land cost 130K for half an acre and access to all the facilities in the community like the pool, garden, parks, co working space, restaurant, grocery store etc... and our house cost around 70-80K

Also caught a glimpse of your home from R&L's channel. I have a couple questions though; being unfamiliar with humid environments and Costa Rica (apart from backpacking in 2014). How do you keep critters/animals out of your home? Looks like the Airstream/Siya's office are fully enclosed but the main area only on 2-3 sides? Is crime a concern- after R&L's unattended bus got broken into it makes me wonder about your security there without basic locks.
The main living area is my favourite, I think once the landscaping adds in front it will be magical- overhead line lights would be a lovely touch for the evenings. Thanks for the tour, really cool space!
My favorite thing was the view from Kristen's office :) where do you dump the compost bucket? Are there kids in the community Kai's age that she can play with?
We have a compost system in our garden. That's where everyone brings their compost. There are plenty of kids in the community!

We've had a few friends :) but since enclosing half the space, we haven't seen any. We'll be enclosing the rest soon

Right now yes. But we are enclosing the entire space. Its just not done yet. We'll be sharing more as we continue to renovate and build.
A dream come true for you guys! I am finally traveling to Costa Rica end of March with my husband, it has been a dream for me since I was little. Something about it just really captivates me and I hope to have a similar lifestyle as you in the future. I would like to live in Quebec, Canada for most of the year, and come about 4 months to Costa Rica in the winter. Do you guys now live in Costa Rica permanently? Or will you still keep a homebase in Canada?
I am so happy for you by the way!! One of my favourite thing about your Jungle House is all the big open spaces and the gigantic windows with lots of sun coming in and stunning views!

Where are you going to go? If you can't get enough, you should join our Costa Rica trip in July! It's focused on the Blue Zone and is going to be amazing.

It's open in the video but we are closing it now. Its going to be wooden slats wit screens. And the front will have a massive door. All above is mosquito nets too
I looove the Office!! I have just a question. I am a really big bookworm, and I wonder if the humidity would ruin a library of physical books?
I have a lot of books too. You need to keep them in a dry room. Or a room with good airflow. Dehumidifiers are ESSENTIAL here.

Not yet but we are adding a wood slat/screen wall with a hidden door and something behind it but you'll have to wait to see what 😉

Maybe rent a place for a bit and truly get a feel for it. But it's the one place out of all the countries we've been to (over 70) where my husband and I both knew we'd live in from the moment we stepped on the land. Pretty powerful!

We don't really have wood. and the wood we do have is treated for termites and mold

No but we are planning to do another type of wall there...one with a hidden door that leads to a surprise we'll be sharing soon 😉

For sure! It's a mix of chicken or beef, broccoli, sweet potato, egg (and ground up eggshell), spinach or kale, green beens, ginger, organ meat like liver, sometimes we add chickpeas too
Oh and sometimes we add peppers and zucchini
curious - why no window screens? I get it, they're not attractive - but they keep the bugs out.
We have screens on all the windows but not that sliding doors. We also have screens all up above our house. They just look pretty invisible so you might not have noticed them
