So many things I love about this video:
1. That both you and Phil work on the floor in a half split
2. Me watching the gold go on, and commenting to myself how much better it would look with some aging, and then being so excited when you started to apply the aging
3. Canelle supervising the whole process
4. Watching her fall asleep on the couch at the end was so adorable
Haha, I showed your comment to Phil, as it's a fairly regular "let's work on something together" position for us! Also HECK YES to the weathering (one of my favorite parts)! And yes, Cannelle was the client/head supervisor/design consultant/napper-in-chief all in one! So glad you enjoyed it
It looked like Cannelle was trying all of the different sleeping options to compare with the final project results😮!!!❤
At the start of the video I found myself wondering what kind of bicycle lets you haul something like that home, but after seeing all the effort you put in, that's the least of my questions 🙂
Hah! What a legit question... definitely a cargo bike. They're an absolute staple here in Copenhagen (at least for a serial upcycler like myself)!
Cargo bikes are something specific to Denmark) They're called christiania bikes. Useful for parents with small children)
@@MsDeepAndDark cargo bikes also exist elsewhere, Germany has a lot of them in some areas too!
Corgis, couches and cargo bikes... oh my 😅
I wouldn't say your construction montage simplified the process, it still looked like a heck of a lot of work! Amazing job, this was incredible 🙌
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! (and if you saw all the parts I cut out for the sake of everyone's sanity and attention spans, you'd understood what I meant 🤣🤣) And yes, it was a TON of work, but it was fun work!
I can't wait to show this to my boyfriend. He's gonna want to make one for his cat 😂😍 Fantastic job!
Thank you! I certainly hope that he's inspired to make a royal cat bed (although whether said cat will, in fact, use it, is another question 😂😂)
If it is on high enough stilts, it's a given😊! Because cats like to be high up in order to see an enemy in advance😂! Purr-haps a bit of nip in the stuffing may help😮?❤
Awe.
That's the fanciest dog that I've ever seen. It's probably fancier than Queen Elizabeth's Corgi bed.
I just looked it up. There basically the same. There's just about 20% more filigree on hers.
I hadn't even THOUGHT to check on the Royal Corgi's beds... but now I absolutely must. Thank you for this!!!!
So cool to see you take the couch apart and reveal the old layers of fabric. The 'pea soup green" was probably a more vibrant green -closer to evergreen shades in its hayday. Haha hay.. its also cool that the hay did not look super moldy after a hundred years in there
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a free antique couch put out for trash as well in early 2020! Was very lucky as it went out after a rain not before. It spent 2 months in my garage because this area has a beg bug problem-was inspected and passed with no pests or mold issues so now it sits in my sewing room! My dogs like to sleep on it while I'm in here. I put an old quilt blanket on it so they don't wear out the fabric. The only thing is the fabric is pink.. and I don't particularly like pink.. but I've gotten use to it.
Hay-day.... LOL. Love it! Also, awesome find on your part as well. Montreal also has a bedbug problem, so it's good you got it checked out, but I'm glad the dogs get some use out of it too! Agreed that pink is not my color of choice either, but for a (free) antique.... worth it!
NGL, I gasped when I saw the pea soup green because I thought it was so lovely. It must have been a gorgeous piece when it was new.
It's beautiful and Canel looks like the regal creature we always knew she was.
Thank you! (this was not, in fact, the aforementioned video that I thought you especially would like; my upload schedule got all wonky lately, but I'm glad you enjoyed it nonetheless)
@@ShannonMakes I have to admit, I was a bit surprised when this one showed up, I thought maybe I missed the fireplace video, so I went and checked the playlist, and nope, I still have that to look forward to. So, YAY!!
It is sitting in my basement, roughly 90% done, taunting me because it's just so much work to film with the silly leg and crutches!!! Hopefully that'll be next up though 🤞🤞
@@ShannonMakes hope you get better soon. No rush on the video, it gives me something to look forward to.
I honestly don't know what category to put this in except stunning and amazing
If you said you spent $3,000 on this couch at a high-end dog furniture store, I would have believed you. Absolutely fantastic job!!
Yea, I definitely figured I could probably sell it at the end of my contract, if I couldn't find a way to get it back home with me! XD
I’m so glad I found you. My bunny boy just saw this and asked me to make him one. I think black or purple velvet would be so nice against his white Floof.
I'm very glad you enjoyed the video!! It's not all corgi-centered content here (unfortunately 🤣), but Cannelle does pretty much always make a cameo in the my projects, since she's a huge part of my life! And absolutely, black or purple velvet would be very grand... purple, clearly, is very regal, and black is quite classy (but maybe shows shed fur more?)!!
The button tufting was the icing on the cake, so to speak. Incredibly impressive.
So cute to see Canelle napping while you two put in the hard work ♡
So I just sat and drooled at that wonderful couch! Beautiful corgi!!!!
Canelle is so loved and adored! She needs a Victorian crazy quilt to go with that adorable fainting couch, which would look fabulous in your new home in NS, Canada.
I would love to live as your neighbor. I would be that next door kid who would ask to help you with all your project. I learn so much abou creative problem solving from watching your video! I got here from historical sewing side but I'm glad to see mofe than just sewing.
That would be A-OK with me, because that'd also mean one less neighbor using power tools that I have to work around when recording 😂😂🪚
Wow! Fantastic! You two are so motivated and hardworking. A beautiful couch for Her Royal Hairyness.
Now I would like to make one for cats. I wonder how to convert this into a bunk bed. A high-rise bed- 5 folors...
I'm sure there are some cool images online for cat bunk-beds that could give some great starting points for inspiration!! 🐈
Canelle is the sweetest dog ever. I love how she is always with you and that Corgi Fainting couch is just beyond brilliant. Such a great and professional job.
That is too cute for words, almost as cute as the Corgi! Congratulations on a nice piece of furniture for the furry loved one.
Holy crap. That's the cutest thing I've seen in my life (except maybe my human babies, but whatever)!!
Been meaning to watch this for a while. Finally gave my brain a kick into clicking
client Miss C had better be paying up with a lifetime supply of pooch smooches. adorable project love
I dunno, she's quite the task master, and not given to much in the way of pooch smooches, but I'll try to convince her for some extra today!! XD
@@ShannonMakes does she also perform, seems like she is really well trained
I just love that you and Phil worked together on this project. It turned out so good, no not good AWESOME. She looks like a royal princess sitting or laying. Good job you two. I have been binge watching and I am still not caught up. Love me some good video. Thank you for all the time you put forth to keep us entertained.
So cute!!!! Always wanted to have a fainting couch and this mini version is absolutely stunning!
I need a cargo bike. They look so handy. The little Corgi couch is cute.
omg this is amazing!!!!! the 3d printed molding really elevated the final look of the couch!
Right?! I have a very conflicted relationship with 3D printing and don't love creating more plastic when there's already so much in the environment, but using it as little additions to a larger project can really just give it that extra pop and customization that's absolutely perfect!!
Now I want to make a tiny couch for my gecko. Not sure she'd even use it, but hey, it still might be a fun project.
"what started as an offhand coment became a full project"
Costube in a nutshell XD
That turned out so beautifully! I’m really enjoying your channel never know what will turn up!
Hope your healing well!
Thank you! I get bored with only one type of creating, so I like to switch modes sometimes XD The foot is progressing, slowly, thanks for asking
Phil! We need more Phil! Canel is a delight as always, and this fainting couch is so fabulously extra! I love watching you repurpose things!
I'm currently arguing with various patterns to make my creamy velvet bathrobe. I've finished enough of my previous projects that (inhale for dramatic effect) it is time.
I will pass the word along to Phil, his guest appearances are always a big hit! And yay for bathrobe time... you perfectly nailed the styling/inflection of that last sentence. I can just *hear* it being said, and I KNOW that feeling!!
That corgi couch is quite exquisite 👌🏻 ever so delightful and beautiful 😍 craftsmanship might I interject.
Shannon, Canelle’s fainting couch is adorable❤️👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you!! I love it, she loves it, the viewers love it... its a win/win/win!
Rewatching, liking and commenting so CZcams knows I'm here for all the videos to come! I'm excited for the house!
2 years later fairly new sub and doing a little catch up with older vids. The corgi sized fainting coach is superb and well worth the effort.❤️
I actually squeaked aloud at the final result! I am not overly fond of dogs as a rule but your corgi is the CUTEST and she looks so comfy on her royal couch. The recycling and building process was very impressive too!
You're the second person to tell me today that they physically uttered a noise at the final result!! Maybe you like Cannelle because she's basically a cat in a dog suit? 😺 And yes, she does enjoy her bespoke throne!! Thanks for watching
Omg you are amazing in making things from recycled goods.Canal is a very posh pooch on her throne ❤
Wow. CZcams really nailed it on this recommendation.
noice!! Got more corgi content here too, mostly in the form of Halloween costumes (Doggy Deadpool, anyone?!) 🐶
@@ShannonMakes oh trust, it’s not just the corgi beans! Loving the back catalogue of upcycled and sewing content from a fellow Canuck. My subs are littered with the likes of Rachel Maxey, Bernadette Banner, Morgan Donner, Transcend Furniture Gallery, and DIY Danie. Didn’t take long to hit the subscribe. Looking forward to seeing what’s next. 👍
Canelle looks like she loves her beautiful settee. It is a lovely piece of furniture for your girl.
Incroyable! Tu parles d’un chien chanceux! This was so impressive to watch. Your dedication to upcycling is truly inspiring and to make something so nice out of it is fantastic, Bravo Shannon 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Elle ne sais pas à quelle pointe elle est chanceux! XD So glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for watching!
This is the best, and Cannelle is deserving of a fancy fainting couch, she is so well behaved. You did such a good job putting this together I’ve watched this video three times in case I need to make one for my cat.
So excited to finally see it in all its glory! I will never take my power tools for granted ever again 😂
Oh goodness yes, go give all your lovely power tools a kiss from me because.... wow. I miss proper tools XD
@@ShannonMakes a band saw really makes a difference, doesn’t it? 😂
That was fantastic! I absolutely adore the couch and your Corgi looks darling sleeping on it. So glad it has her seal of approval. That was an amazing amount of work, but the end result was worth it. Thank you so much for sharing and showing how much real work and branpower goes into a creative project like that.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it (and appreciated the work and problem solving that goes into a project like this)!! And yes, it absolutely has her seal of approval... it's currently sitting next to my Christmas tree (you can see it a bit in my Vintage Holiday sewing video), and she uses it all the time and looks like a scene from a Hallmark Video!!
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy every single thing you put out there. I love your enthusiasm, engenuity and spirit of adventure. I get very angry when I see critical or nasty comments getting posted. I hope you'll continue to ignore them. Have fun with your new home. I can't wait for the next post. By the way, I'm in my 80s, but we are kindred spirits! Big hug to you!
If I took a year to make on of these in the UK. My German Shepherd would take a day to eat it!!! Very brave 👏
LOL no, Cannelle is very well behaved and has no destructive tendances (unless you’re a kibble) 😂😂
Duuuuuude! Wow!
So good! You guys did an absolutely amazing job!
When you were like "doesn't look like much for four days" I was like "That only took four days are you frikken kidding me!!"
I love your montages.... you really have a knack for getting everything in there, not too fast to catch but not too slow to lose me, either.
It's always cool when your co-stars put in appearances, so cheers to Phil, Cannelle and *that glorious green plaid jacket!* 💚💚💚
Thank youuuuu! Also I'm glad you like my montage... I sit there and tweak them for *goodness knows* how long (and still, this video coming in at 26 mins, I was a bit concerned about length). There was some ruthless cutting room floor action happening here, I think some nice stuff got left out, but you gotta kill your darlings (maybe I'll do a little Live-style chat about the project at some point, to work all those details in).
Yes, I also love that green jacket! I'm thinking about making it into a vest so that I wear it more? But it also fits pretty well as-is, so maybe I just need to actually WEAR IT MORE? #decisions
@@ShannonMakes Oh, it would make a great vest, but it's also just so good as it is! Better idea: make a coordinating vest and wear them both!!
Full disclosure: I am far more sentimental than sensible 😅
This is both ridiculous and sublime! I love it, great job Shannon and Phil! I think my dog would literally swoon if presented with such a beautiful custom-made piece of furniture! 10 out if 10!
I would pay good money to see a dog swoon… 😂😂 Glad you enjoyed it so much!!
That turned out so great!!! Love the antiques gold and the applied embellishments!
Thank you!! This is absolutely one of my favorite projects to-date, we had so much fun doing it!!
OMG that is so adorable ❤
I laughed when you said you had no power tools and I wondered how long it was gonna take you to find one and it looked like it happened fairly soon. Lol
(I’m so impressed by what you can do!)
Woah! The amount of physical strength this took is incredible! Those sofas were made to last!
I am greatly enjoying the clear play-by-play of your comments XD Glad you enjoyed the video, it's by FAR one of my favorite projects to date (and yes, we did have a couple power tools, but I think only two, and NOT the ones we needed to break that darn couch apart 😭😭
That hay may not be hay/straw, but wood wool! So the couch was very likely an antique.
Yea, when I looked into it a bit further, I think it probably was excelsior/wood wool! And just by the way it was constructed, I think it almost definitely was an antique (but also in pretty crappy condition)!
Beautifully executed and filmed 🎥. Thank you for all of the great ideas. Sweet pup.
Thank you 💙💚♥️ I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching! And yes, Cannelle is the sweetest! 🐶👑
I love your corgi and the fainting couch is perfect.
Thank you! She is pretty amazing, totally deserves that couch, and uses it all the time!!
Oh wow! I don't dare let my corgi see this video or she will want one too. No, Sarah, no, you leave the room right now! Good dog.
HAHA!! Well, if Sarah would actually use it... might be worth considering 😉🤣🛋
Saw the Corgi couch in several later videos. But oh boy, what a labor of love you two executed! An absolutely stunning result and it fits perfectly to your sweet dog.
this is so adorable! you are so creative and its soo good to see objects getting a new life!
Again, a definite labour of love project, that both of you partook in! I love it and I knew Cannelle would love it and actually use her little fainting couch *hehe* You certainly made it beautiful, and I think Queen Elizabeth II would have loved it as well for her corgi's. Another masterpiece 😍💖🐕
Thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying the videos, just as much as Cannelle is enjoying her couch 😄🐶 And I wouldn't be surprised if the Queen's corgis did indeed have something similar!!
Wowowowowowow. I would be very good money that the green fabric you unearthed has arsenic dye on it. That is an old, old couch. What a good find. I'm glad you were able to give her a second life. Although I personally would have tried to reconstruct the original couch for myself. But I'm sure Canelle needs this more than me. 😂
Edit: The finished product is so cute!! I'm so glad she loves it and it was truly a labor of love and so much labor at that. I love the gold and I'm so glad you were able to reuse the piping.
I did definitely toy with the idea of rehabbing it for myself, but honestly... it wasn't my house, I knew we were leaving the continent in a few months and that I couldn't bring it with me, that I was lacking ALL of the tools to do the job properly (and that I wasn't willing to buy them just for this project, especially when, again, I'd be leaving them behind in a few months), plus I'd have been really lacking fabric, and I thought it was kinda fun to reuse the original fabric on the miniature... so many things went into the final decision, and I 100% don't regret it, because I was able to bring the mini version with me back to Montreal, when the full sized one DEF would have had to stay in Denmark!
My mom did upholstery and restored furniture with dad.. she stapled her thumb to a couch ...distration.... 😊
Before I pull this couch apart I'm giving it a name because that's not going to make everyone shout 'noooooo, not Esther!' While watching this.
RIP Esther.
Love it love it LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
This is the ultimate pet domain ever to exist!!!!!
The most, rightfully, spoiled pup.
And does she know it!? (yes, yes she does) And does she appreciate it? (no, no she doesn't XD)
@@ShannonMakes And does she brings much much cuteness to your life and channel? (yes, yes she does)
What a genius you are. I love it. I think you could do anything you set your mind to. Both of you did a beautiful job. By the way, I just love your sweet fur baby. God bless.😊❤❤
👍 I've been binge watching your channel all day! I love it and this couch!
Amazing! What a beautiful corgi-size fainting couch!
Thank you, I just love it, and so does Cannelle... one of my favorite projects to-date!!
What a beautiful fainting couch for a very beautiful sweet fur baby. I can tell she is very loved love ❤️ hug's and kisses to the beautiful sweet adorable fur baby from me love ❤️ love ❤️ the couch I'm so glad I found your videos I will certainly be watching
Aww thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Fur baby got lots of love and extra scritches this morning 🐾🐶 Hope you enjoy the rest of my videos - there's a few more where Cannelle is really the highlight of the video, but she appears in some form or another in most of my videos!
so cute! don't know which one i like more, this couch or the "western wagon"
Well for me, I definitely feel like the sofa was much more of an achievement in terms of recycling and problem solving abilities, but I won’t judge you if you prefer the wagon, cuz that was a cool one too!!
I've got an armchair of similar age and materials, called Algernon. Mine is the same green colour, which was very common for upholstery in the early decades of the 20th century. The "hay" is actually coconut fibre.
So after doing some research, it looks like my "hay" is more likely excelsior - another common fiber used in upholstery in the past... very fun to see though, right?!
Not me brainstorming how to make one for the rabbits.... I love this walkthrough! Great work
Omg, that’d be absolutely adorable! And much easier on the fabric stash 😝
This is delightful! I’m happy you were able to reuse the fabric, though I must say that it grossed me out when I saw that mold initially. Yuck, glad it washed out.. You and Phil did such a wonderful job on this.
Thank you for the kind words! (and yea, it was gross, but it’s nothing a combination of cutting around and vigorous, repeated washes couldn’t solve 😂😂)
I just watched your sewing table video, and subscribed as soon as you said Montreal , and Corgi! (I’m in Ottawa) 🇨🇦🐾🐾 then I came to see the Corgi fainting couch and IT’S BRILLIANT!! I love every single thing about it! That was a labour of love, and definitely looks Corgi approved! I’m now on to watch Corgi Sherlock Holmes costume. I can’t wait! Thank you for this tutorial. I’m in the process of making a Bloodhound couch. 🙂
Ohh it is DEFINITELY corgi approved! That was made while in contract in Copenhagen, it came with us back to Montreal, and is currently in Nova Scotia, and gets daily use in all three cities!
@@ShannonMakes oh, it’s a “Travelling Corgi fainting couch!” Cannelle is one lucky pup! They are so worth it though!! I dragged a child’s crib with a really super clean baby mattress across the street from my neighbours a couple of weeks ago. Big Bloodhound needs a big bed. I’ll construct something around that. I know for sure it will not be as spectacular as Cannelle’s though.
this was so fascinating and satisfying to watch! bravo on an amazing project!
Ahhh cute corgieness inspiration. They have inspired our family through the last 44 years of family union. Sometimes a baby in a carriage complete with bonnet, a teacher, or even a physician with green eyeglasses and a stethoscope and always adorably cooperative and a people pleaser. Really enjoyed 2 of your vlogs and hope to watch more soon.. Current no dogs in our little retirement cabin on the back of our sons property but enjoying our two grandoggers. I seriously think of upping the anti with an adorable female corgi. One can but hope…. PS your maker skills are excellent. Thanks again 🦋🙊🤝🙌🏻Marjorie from Georgia US
Hello Marjorie and welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and it's true that that little doggo brings so much joy and entertainment into my life! She's quite spoiled, but then again, so are your granddoggers I'm sure! Thanks for watching, I've got a few others on the channel that are corgi-specific (she just won a Paw-lloween costume contest a few weeks ago), and otherwise the rest are mostly sewing and crafting!!
Came for the war time knitting, staying for the overall crafty over-the-top-ness. I regret nothing.
"crafty over-the-top-ness" should be my working motto... thank you for those lovely words, it's everything I dream of reading in my comments section!
