I had a hard time focusing on the actual sound of the mics when you played the Collings guitar. Because it just sounded so damn good no matter which mic you used! Great playing.
came for the mic demo, stayed for the killer playing. That was lovely, on all the instruments
great tonal comparison and KILLER playing!
TLM 102 has so smooth and pleasant sound so he is a winner.
A few months ago, I bought the TLM 102. It's very pricy (Total $900). However - over the week using and recording, I felt like it didn't have the crispy/clear sound what I hoped. I returned it. To me, it's just a hype. I'd rather buy something cheaper.
I like the la220 ...sounds natural, great pickin by the way friend.
Better (more forward) mids on the Lauten? By comparison, the TLM sounds scooped. Both have nice highs and los, which is how my phone spells "lows".
I am listening through ear buds. I am actually considering a mic purchase at the time of this listening. I have several mics on my radar including Lauten Audio’s 220, Atlantis, and Clarion. Also being considered are the Neumann TLM series; 102, 103, and 107. If I gave a blind test opinion on the demonstration in this video, I would say, generally speaking the LA 220 was a little brighter in the upper mids. Through a great channel strip like an Avalon 737, I am not sure how they would behave. I am sure both are great mics, but it is nice to see an American-made, inexpensive condenser mic standing its ground against a more expensive competitor. Thanks for the great video. A pleasure to listen to your talented playing!
The Lauten's sonics attributes to general stronger sounding transient attack, while the TLM appears to miss some of the transients present in the source. If you consider that a compressor might be applied later on in the mixing stager, you surely would prefer to compress a track with more defined transients. To be frank, the TLM exhibits 'transient Intermodulation distortion' which will bear destructive effects on percussive sound sources like the acoustic guitar. I would limit the use of of the TLM onto melodic sound sources. But that's just me.. Thank for the great comparison and your nice playing.
I hear the exact opposite ^^ Lauten sounds flat and harsch comparing to the excellent articulation of the Neumann who has also more depth
Great sounding mics and room..Oh and player!
Two nice sounding mics one great guitar player
Oof! Can't get over how good that OOO(?) sounds through the LA220! Sounds hard and "new" like I don't really care for in most acoustic guitar tones, but still sounds SO good!
Neumann definitely sounds better on the next acoustic to me, tho lol Guess it just goes to show the necessity for more than one mic whenever possible, eh.?. ;)
Thanks for posting!
My thoughts too, blending would be great
Cant beat a Neumann but the 220 sounds amazing especially for the price
Nice playing! To me the Neumann on initial impression sounds more "real"...will probably sell my collection of low price mics and buy an M149...the real deal!
Wow I own the Lauten La 220 the Neuman TLM 102 sounds a little better overall but the Lauten makes me feel smart at the $249.00 I paid for it.If you have the money get best possible but I feel blessed that we also have access to great products and budget prices.
Awsome picking👍
Both sound great to me. I like the low end on the Neumann, and it sounded a bit fuller. What amp was used? It sounded amazing.
very nicely played Thank you! but what have you used for the video filming?
Vocal test
Wow. LA220 has much more built in compression very flattering on the amp in the lows (did you have the hpf on?) and has overall subdued character. The TLM120 is scoped and, while not unnaturally compressed, it also doesn't represent quiet bits well. For my stuff the LA220 all the way.
Interesting, and really well done demo (for a change) The Lauten has more sparkle and 'air'. the Neumann has more warmth, bass, and sounds more midrange-centric. I wonder if the 102 had more proximity effect going on in the demo -sounded like it..? No comment as to whether any of the HP or LP filters were engaged on the Lauten, which would have been helpful info. Both mics are great just different..
They sound pretty similar to me
The Lauten won easily ..full and clear and more defined .. the Neumann sounds tiny and nasal and lack of the low end
