Canyon Neuron 2023 First Look: A Very Rejigged Trail Bike

- What sort of bike is the new Canyon Neuron? The simple answer is: it's a mountain bike. The more specific answer is: it's a trail bike. A trail bike with 29in wheels with 140mm travel front and rear.
We say "29in wheel" but the very smallest adult size (and the Young Hero Neuron for kids) actually come with 27.5in wheels. But for the Medium, Larger and Extra Large adult Neurons, it’s 29 all the way baby.
It's a mountain bike
Described variously as "the ultimate all-rounder" and Canyon's "most versatile bike to date". It's designed as a bike for what Canyon calls the "99 percent of riders who just want one great, do-it-all bike."
And it's also meant to be for folk who only want to own one mountain bike (we know! Can you imagine?)
Those of us with far too many bikes taking up space in our brains, who have been riding for a long enough period of time, may remember the Canyon Nerve that came out in 2002. Essentially the new Canyon Neuron is that bike's 20-years-later descendant.

Glad to see a review where they didn’t buy the top end model to review
Good presentation.
Thanks for the video. Did you use their sizing chart when making the purchase? Most charts suggest I get a large, but the Canyon site suggests medium. Thoughts?
You said the bike was about to get ridden for a review, I couldn't find it. Is that ride review out yet? Cheers

Hello there. Bought my neuron 6 Al few months ago and i love the bike. I had a xc hartail but i changed because of the versatility of the trail bikes, i raced in the old bike on some some xcm competitions and now i feel some nostalgic and i wanted to do a long distance race but i dont know if the neuron is good for that. I dont want to race for podium only for finishing it and enjoy the views. Could you give me your opinion ? Tanks a lota
If you love it, ride it! Keep eating and stay hydrated and you can finish anything - especially if your saddle fits you well. Enjoy those views!
@@singletrack thanks for sharing motivation. My ONLY concern is that, Being a long distance Race with a 15 kg bike and diferent geometry that i raced before, could get me in troubles😁 . But the nothing better than try it to ser how it GOES. Thanks again

@@JohnADuerkin my opinion, Canyon normaly have a bit different size measurment, i bought an neuron L and my other bikes were L to from diferent brands. The bike fits. But if are with seconds thoughts get in contact with Canyon. They help a lot.
Hope u nail it.
👍
@@Inkomodo Thanks!
Would this ride much better than my very cheap Carrera Vengeance? Is it worth the 2 grand?
Looks very nice
The only thing I was hoping for 29’ wheels in all sizes
For a XS or S it would not be nice to ride with 29....
I waas hoping for 27.5 or even mx 27.5/26
are the mounts on the seat tube for a 2nd bottle cage?
I'm also interested in. But can't find an answer to it.
I'm also trying to find this out? no one has mentioned it in reviews???
Tell me, height 170cm inseam 78cm size M will be large? Canyon website recommends S but he often underestimates sizes.
U should get size M 100 percent
bike would rip in michigan, we hate climbing but full sus xc bikes don't specc well till they're out of reach (price wise), at least with this bike you get nice parts for doing everything at a reasonable price
The horrors of only having one bike
Trail centre weapon?
Remortgage house 😢
This model was $1,800 a few weeks ago. Not a better bike on the market for that price.
You must live in a CHEAP house.
By geometry and travel the new Neuron is nearly identical to the previous generation (gen 5) Trek Fuel EX. If you buy this bike, you're getting an outdated Fuel EX.
You say it like if every new generations geometry was better than the previous one which is... nonsense.
@@danvalicek Clearly, ideal geo is going to depend on where you ride and personal preference. Where I ride (Durango CO), a 77* STA and 65* HTA seems to work best for all-around trail riding. Less progressive than that and descending gets sketchy. More progressive than that and the bike starts to feel overly long and the front wheel feels floppy. I own a Stumpy Evo with 6 different geometry positions. After trying different positions, that's the geo that works best for me. About 60% of the riding here I would categorize as blue on the green-blue-black scale.
Awesome, similar bike for much less money
Outdated? This bike would be fine for someone for the rest of their lives - there's nothing 'outdated' about it. That said if you really want to compare then the Neuron has a better stack height and a bit more reach. Plus a UDH rear hangar and a threaded bottom bracket. Oh and it's half a kilo lighter.
You couldn’t be more wrong. Did you watch the video? Trek Fuel? Really? For a minimum $1000 more expensive than the Neuron. Way more bike channels reviewing and comparing to Canyon bikes. Not Trek.
