So glad everyone had positive feedback on the drum parts! It's a pleasure to be playing for the Gear Gods and I look forward to some thrashy riffs in the future =)
How did you guy EQ\mic this? Your kit and playing sounds UN REAL. Like Deftones level unique, I love that snap.
I heard it and immediately was like “is this guy for hire?!” Lol. You did incredible dude!
@@SammiD71 I am! And thank you! The last 3 years have only made me better ;)
Great playing ✌️
Nicely done air. Love drums rule!
Ive had mine for like a lil over a year and ive been playing orange for about 5 years now. anyone on the fence about buying this model or just an orange in general.... quit stalling.... BUY ONE!!!!
Now this is a great demo and thorough run through of this amp. The live drummer and rich riffs really show off this amps capabilities. Your demo and description are the best I've seen out of 15 or so reviews so thanks.
Love these amps, smoking value and great tone. Works great live and even the 120w can be used in a bedroom. It's not amazing for the money, it's just amazing.
Yes me too , I have the smaller 60 watt Combo version - and i have a tube amp too , but im only Playing with the Orange ! Covers vintage - modern - clean to Dirty tones ! the simplicity of makes it so special too !
Love the super clean sounds!
Got this a couple of months ago, played three shows with it and it kicks major ass! Great Vid, Trey! \m/
Did have any issue with a humming from the amp when you weren't playing, like in between songs?
Fantastic demonstration guys!
hey man this amp sounds great and all but I just wanna say that song you guys played in the beginning was pretty badass!
Great jam great review everything sounds great
I dig this. This amp sounds warm for a solid state, very convincing. I also liked your Rockerverb demo video. It would be very interesting if you could make a comparison video between both amps, CR120 vs Rockerverb, since the CR 120 is said to emulate the Rockerverb. There are two or three of those on the net but their sound quality isn't really the best, and I'd really love to see & hear good quality A/B comparisons between those two amps.
Real drums !!!!!!! Oh my god, ive never seen that in my life !!!!! Well since the 80's early 90's anyway. Way cool man. Hopefully this is a new direction everyone starts moving towards. Love it. Great vid !
Someone's been listening to sludge, stoner, and doom haha. Very nice. I dig it a lot.
Early William I thought it was very Pantera
Crowbar
+A. W. like pantera? nah man, this tone is actually awesome sounding. lol
@@jamboni8684 Kirk uses the same amp now!
Orange amps are the go to amps for stoner metal bands so it fits
Great job guys!
The thing that really makes the tone in this demo is that fat as hell bass tone. Like, the orange sounds good, but that bass sound is better.
Thank you :) People dont usually realize it but its the Bass guitar that makes a Metal mix sound fat as fuck!
@@alexnasla 1000%.... the screechy fizzy overloud guitar tones from amateur metal bands drives me insane.... grrrrr... No one focuses on what I feel is almost the most important part of a good metal mix... The BASS!!!!
That's why I don't like full mixes when I'm trying to listen to an amp. The drums and bass can make almost anything sound good.
@@bryanlettow4389
If you believe that then why would it matter ?
Unless you're always playing at home without drum and bass backing tracks. Some people do this I presume.
That's the whole point of having a bass guitar in a band. Most people's guitar tones sound like shit as part of a band mix because they EQ in way too much bass. The guitars are there for treble and upper mids. The bass does the bass. Clue is in the name.
Just ordered one of these, get it on Friday. Can’t wait!
How loud is it? I know there is usually quite a difference in volume from a 120 watt tube head and a 120 w solid state head.
Very nicely done demo! I actually do like the sound of this amp. I would probably have to get the combo version since i live in a small place. I'm looking for a decent brand new analog "high-gain" solid state amp but those just don't exist from what i can gather, unless you manage to find some old used Ampeg or something in which i cannot. But i think this sounds pretty damn nice.
I just played this at guitar center today with a jackson that had fishman pickups in it and I thought it sounded killer! Especially me who likes high gain for my solos and shit.
Great sound and playing.I hear a pinch of Eric Gales influence in your soloing.Very cool
And good job for playing riffs stylized for Orange. People trying to play Metallica ballads on them etc...
I love the song you made for this! IMO it's really refreshing to hear a distortion that is thick and sludgy when generally speaking the amp world offers almost all the same stuff. That tight thin hyper focused metal tone everyone is using just isn't for me I want a wall of DOOM but to still have clarity when I need it. Thank you for the review!
Imo the best solid state amp out there. Almost identical to the rockerverb mkii
Oh, so it's kinda like the “Blues Cube” series from Roland: A well-made Solid State Amp that can get you sweet-ass sounds without breaking the bank
Very close, yes, in that they're well made/good sounding non-tube amps. Slight difference is the Orange is all analog (reverb aside), whereas the Blues Cube has some digital magic sprinkled in (from what I've gathered).
@Daniel Urry True, but simply use a tad less gain. Doesn't need to be dimed, maybe 7 at most and tweaking treble accordingly should do the trick. The amp's power will do the rest. This amp sounds really good for a SS, better than a Marshall MG model imho.
Pretty much. Except it's all analog, save for the reverb. Can cover a lot more tonal ground too.
Great review, i just got one my.
this working perfect for home studio and technical death music ?
imagine this done as a hybrid head with tube pre amp.....
B-52 does it
Defeats the entire point of the amp
It won't make it any better....
Tube amps sound great because of poweramp tubes, not preamp tubes.
Last but not least: the big output transformers are part of the "tube" sound
@Crucial Velocity yes I know the vast majority of the work is made in the preamp section and the poweramp in a modern 100 watt amp doesn't get into distortion (unless you're playing with a plexi and need that).
But still the tube tone is from a good tube poweramp circuitry.
At this point if hybrids (tube preamp into solid state) were so good we all would be buying valvestate amps or hybrid Laney amps.
To this day nobody cares about those.
Maybe if you play in the style of Death (the Florida death metal band) you want a valvestate
All analog
That was fantastic. The playing (bass and drums as well as the guitar) and the track itself. Genuinely album quality. I'm hearing bits of Crowbar and High on Fire but I don't recognise the song so am assuming it's an original? Well done, and the amp sounds excellent.
Thanks dude, yeah this is my doom song for all doom applications hahaha
Clean channel sounds amazing! I am thinking of buying the cr-120 combo. We play lots of funk, r/b , blues and classic rock . Do you think if would be good for that?
Sounds incredible
Sounds good. I want one
Orange crush need some love... crush combo' pretty much the first decent amp i ever own after years with squire combo 😂
This thing sounds pretty good!
TRACK SLAPS NECK BRO%%%%%%
New Orleans scene should be proud!!
BIG UP NEW ORLEANS SOUND%%%
best thumbnail for this amp lol.
So mistake I did! At guitar center I bought the or15 with cab tube amp, then I traded it for the crush 35rt combo, when I could of got this cr120h and cab. 😒bummer!
I’m in between those amps. What didn’t you like about the OR15?
Thanks for playing the clean channel.
Hey Trey i know this is an old video but could you provide tabs of this massive song pls? more specific the solo part as i cannot figure it out not even with the video at half speed. I always enjoy listening to this song whether it's here or the orange fur coat fuzz review or even the fuzz pedal shootout you did a while ago (that's were i got into fuzz and bought the pharaoh :) )
Dude! I'm a little behind on the comment but killer jam man!
The solo sounds like some wicked pepper keenan action🤘 you got orange another sale
For real some of the nastiest riffs ive ever heard.. super sick man..
If I ever get another solid state amp it's this.
I've owned one for over a year. fucking slays.
hell yeaaaaaaa!
What cab would you recommend to play this amp head through?
Trey Is the Pro The same as Orange Crush CR120C 2x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier Or The head? Are all 3 basically the same amp?
Thanks.
I’m not sure actually, this is the only one I’ve played
I still think you can get a very cool metal tone out of this. Not that overcompressed "modern" tone, but still metal nonetheless. With an overdrive I managed to get a pretty neat metal tone out of an orange practice amp. And I've seen people use an overdrive with 5150's...
It's get very metal! Especially with a boost in front. I use a EHX Soul Food and it tightens it up without losing bass.
EQ in the loop really opens up this amp! Holy shit...
Hey, I noticed that you are using the Two notes reload, which is only recommended for use with 100w, but the amp is 120w. I'm thinking about using the same Amp with a Two notes captor, which is also recommended for 100w and I want to know whether or not it's safe. Cheers
You can still use the 100w reload, just don't crank the amp's gain up all the way on the way in. (so it keeps the amps output within the 100w range)
How much EQ'ing (if any) did you do to the guitar track?
This thing is awesome and this review made me so happy I got this. I’ve been gigging with a sovtek for years now and it’s starting get to heavy for my back. The does it doom demo made the cleans so very thin, this video they sounded good. What is your impression?
Ps Definitely don’t need to do drugs to like stoner rock!!!
I’m a little late in seeing this review, but thought I’d weigh in with my 2 cents worth. I’ve had the CR120C (2x12 combo) for about three years now and am now considering adding a head and cab version to the collection as well. I love mine! Lighter, low maintenance, and most importantly and unexpected...can handle any genre of music! I crank out Surf to Sabbath on that thing and the only two pedals I very rarely run through the front are a wah and a triangle Muff (Pink Floyd). It has cleans to insane gain in one package.
What is the difference between orange crush pro 120 and the orange crush 120? Just the word pro slapped onto the machine?
Guess only the labels been changed on the latest ones .
would this work better for deathcore (mostly drop B and A) or should I stick to my Peavey 6505mh running into a Engl cab? (Yes it actually does sound pretty good. anything above 6 gain is too muddy though)
What you have probably has a tighter sound than this, which is better for deathcore.
Definitely stick to what you've got - this amp isn't good for the sound you're looking for. If your amp sounds muddy at higher gain, put a tube screamer in front of it with the gain knob at zero, and the tone knob cranked up to like 2 or 3 o clock with the output volume up pretty high. The higher you turn up the tone knob the more clarity you will get, although it can get harsh if you go too far.
I use the cr 120 pro with a ts909 and the amps gain at 6 to 7. The ts909 makes it crunchier and morr jcm800 ride the lighteningish kind of tone.
Would it do good for Death Metal with a bright sounding guitar?
I’m sure if you dial it in maybe an OD pedal before hand. But even then the clean channel sounds great, so you can just go with your fave pedal config I’d assume
I enjoy the tones of orange amps vs Marshalls
Can you tell me if it matters where I plug in the speaker cable. There are two holes.
John Stanley match the ohms of your cab to the stated ohms of the socket so it will be 16 or 8.
I have a question. I play in a band and its metal all the way for us. Would this head be loud enough to play pretty decent size show that has around 100-200 people? would it still give the presence of a tube amp in a live setting?
I tried one few weeks ago and I think it'd work 😊
Easy with a 4x12 or even 2x12.
So question. I have this head brand new tags still on it and I’m not crazy over it but it could be the cab I’m running out of which is a basic Marshall cab. I’m thinking of trading it for a used head and was offered a Marshall mf 350 mode4. Should I trade or stay away? I’m playing an esp sc607b seven string baritone in dropG. I want more of a deftones around the fur but heavier guitar tone.
Kishi to get the tones you need to dime the channel volumes and use the master volume to control how loud you want it.
THAT AMP IS FUCKING KILLER
I've noticed some say 'Crush Pro 120' on and others say 'CR120', is there any difference?
I guess only the label is changed on the newer production models .
It is still a Crush Pro 120 just abbreviated the CRUSH 120 to CR120
Was this the sound of the amp by itself, I don't trust many reviews because they always add with a pedal.
is there any difference between the cr120 and the crush pro? is is it just a marketing time jump change? please get back to me anyone!! asap
Kentucky Deep Sleep eat the rich Same amp, new name
also could you tell me what foot switch to buy if I got this head?
Gabriel Scott any standard latching foot switch will work with this amp so cheap generic ones are fine or you can spend more and have the Orange 🍊 one if you want.
The best amp for southern metal like down, crowbar, etc.
from what I know crowbar actually uses these, so
@@ohshitnoty0u Yep, Kirk uses these!
i DONT GET WHY THERE IS NO MIDDLE OR CONTOUR ON THE CLEAN CHANELL BUT OTHER THAN THAT ITS A SICK AMP! THATS MY ONLY NITPICK WITH IT!
James Cassidy it's the same on rockerverbs. I think the mids on the clean are pre set haha. I guess they're that confident about their clean sound
How did you get the crunch channel to sound so good? I have a Cr120 and tbh it sounds nothing like that :( Is it the Torpedo that helps?
Check out Dave Simpson on youtube - theres alot of demo -settings to find the sounds you may want , I always keep the treble low ( on 3 ) and gain not higher than 4 -5 . Also the guitar vol - tone knobs settings influence the Gain .The speakers may be an issue too .
He's playing in A standard. You want to be in a drop tuning with the gain cranked and a guitar with hot humbuckers. Thats how you get that sound!
It's the bass tone that makes it sound so massive
So apparently you CAN make the amp sound not classic rock or stoner metal. How do you do that?
CelluloidHoax Tube screamer in front and an EQ pedal in the FX Loop.
Anybody have a suggestion of the best cab for the Crush 120 Head? 2x12 4x12 with celestions or not ahhhh! I cant decide
Hi Daniel,
I have this amp and love using it through a straight front 4x12. The speakers I use are 2 Warehouse Veteran 30's and 2 Eminence Governors in an x pattern. Killer.
better than the or15?
metalehead95 the OR15 is voiced differently to the crush pro so will sound a little different.
OR15 no onboard reverb but all valve
Crush pro has onboard digital reverb no valves all solid state valve amp circuit where op-amps are used instead of tubes.
I own both it’s not a case of which is best it’s more a case of different. I’m a tube snob but the crush pro has me taking a serious look at high end solid state amps things have moved on.
Great!!!!! Tuning ?
A Standard
Can y’all do a gear tour with Kirk fucking Windstein?
Was there any point in this demo where the gain wasn't dimed? Lol
how would this sound for hardcore stuff like Knocked Loose, Varials and Kublai Khan? and Deathcore?
Ugly Meez w/a tube screamer boosting the front end for sure
Keeps it has a nice saturated sound I can get the same tone as my other guitarist and he plays 6505 but I also can get the the creamy british tones out of it and the cleans are amazing
If I'm not mistaken one of the guitar players for KNOCKED LOOSE uses an orange amp with a tube screamer boost, so golden thumbs up friend!
I've never been able to find a lot of good sounds coming out of this amp. It does classic rock and southern sludge stuff fine, but full on fuzzed out doom doesn't come from this thing. It does sounds super good with my strat doing just blues shred stuff though. I've never been able to get a gain setting that sits well with me.
I have the Combo version - This amp is really made for the Tone - Volume Nobs on Guitar !! Adjusting them can easily give you every Tone - Gain sound ! .
Addition a tube screamer on there
Crush pro crushes period
maybe try a different angle or approach the knobs from a different angle. couldn't really see exactly what you were doing with some of the settings as you adjusted them.
Did you NEED a load box for solid state?
Yes
The Torpedo Captor a good solution?
Yea it's very easy to use
Thanks Gear Gods lol!
No, you don't NEED a load box because it is a solid state amp. I use mine as just an interface to send signal else where.
I'm loving that you're still shaving your head, Spirit Animal
Yeah, I didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me. I mean, I wish it was hair that was growing on me instead, but what are you gonna do?
Gear Gods Use Shampoo & conditioner money to buy more guitar gear... 😎.
I'm saving literally tens of dollars per year
Gear Gods ive been using the same $20 clippers since 2008. Still gets me down to the boards, then the occasional bic.
Amaranthe shirt
pedals or effects?
André Baeta there's an fx loop in the back. it works really well with effects! I use it with a helix running through the loop and it sounds great
but my real question was if the amp sounds realy like this. Because I have seen numerous times amp demos with a great sound but Only if you use overdrive pedals and other efects :/ or if you have it cranked all the way up, and in a bedroom situation its super impratical idk
Oh yeah it really sounds like this. I use it with fender guitars that have fairly low output and it has a lot of gain even at 1:00 I use a tube screamer model before it but it's mostly for tone coloration to make it a bit less dark sounding. And the master knob keeps the tone very consistent at low levels you can get it so quiet you can barely hear it!
well I will take your word for it. I just hope its better than an orange dual terror in terms of distortion. That one I tried with high output pickups, gain at 10, volume 2 maybe 3 and it was realy dull sounding in my opinion. without a tube screamer it was realy not good for metal type sound. perfect for hard rock tho
André Baeta mainly I feel like what cab you use changes it a lot as well too. And this cranks more than a terror since it's modeled after the rockerverb imo try them out at a guitar center or something they usually have them in a big orange section if you have one near you
this thing is as tight as a 5150? really?
Yes. Yes it is.
It's like a fuckin dodge charger ....man
its definitely good for more doom sounding stuff.
Orange amps.
The fuzz pedal with an amp strapped to it.
Killer tone.
I will never buy a new amp again. It is bull crap that they don't give you a cover and a foot switch- They used to always give you the cover and ft. sw.-As long as people pay it they will keep doing it. The ft. sw. and cover don't cost much to make. All you suckers keep paying it and they will keep charging. Shame on you orange and all other amp co. that do this-you will not get my business.
Seems like a pretty small hill to die on. The guitar makes more noise when you have something to plug it into.
Thats rediculous ! So all other amp manufacturers give you covers and footswitches ? :-D
why not me
Agreed with Gear Gods, a tiny hill to die on. However I'd recommend to start looking around, as you'd be surprised. I found the CR60 on Amazon.com as a bundle that includes the amp, footswitch, cables for the footswitch, amp cover, as well as an optional 4 year protection plan. Texas Guitar Ranch, who fulfills the orders for Amazon.com also has these bundles on their site. Check em out!
Totaly agree. At the least they should include the foot switch. What a croc of s%#t. If you go by a car ot has all four wheels. Hell they even throw in the steering wheel for kicks. It wont be long. Once solid state starts getting a good rep amd other manufacturers put out good sounds ss amps. Everyone will charge double for ss amps. Then maybe they'll throw in a footswitch as well be be paying an extra $500 for it
Ian Alderman yeah man, bought the exact same bundle from the exact same people. Texas guitar ranch even sent a few extra cables to round out the purchase.
