This video is a step by step instruction on how to install an Aria Vent Cold Air or Hot Air Return Vent Cover, replacing those nasty old grates.
Step one is cutting the opening to fit the grate.
Step two is to reinforce the opening with strapping or 2x2 around the opening perimeter.
Step three is to dry fit the vent into the opening and use a knife to score the drywall and remove the paper.
Step four is to screw the vent into place after paper is completely removed and then you can mud, sand, prime and paint to finish.
Sexiest vents on the market, check them out for yourself.

Do these restrict airflow in anyway? Or do you still get the same readings as if it was an old traditional grill?

These are rated by the company as comparable. The single opening around the face is supposed to be close to the vented grates.

Yes they do restrict air flow. for sure. There are a few videos on youtube that explain why.

    What about the air filter?

There is no air filter for an air return, that's in the furnace. If you want one in the return Air, you'll simply have to cut one to fit in your opening

How does accommodate a filter that needs to be changed?

Theres no filters unless you chose to put one in there for some reason. They remove just as they install, haven't seen any air returns that accommodate a filter.

@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer In Texas we have air filters behind our returns before the air gets to the air handler, so this won't work for my return. I will keep checking to see if they modify for filters.

@dawnforman34 we have all the filters at the furnace unit not the intakes. 🫠

@dawn forman just thought you can put a custom fitted filter here but buying a filter cover to go into the opening, but we don't typically have those in return Air for residential applications.
