Aaron Gordon's take a chair in the air over Stuff on the hoverboard is the greatest dunk in NBA dunk contest history. I don't think that's a controversial statement.
Nope. Bro literally sat in mid air
But cmon a windmill from the ft line is undeniable
@@MrSquakyInside the free throw line and it’s not creative nor difficult besides the distance.
@ACZcamsUser1 not difficult? You can count on your hand right now how many people on earth could do that dunk
@@MrSquaky A windmill is not difficult. I’ve seen dudes in high school so those. Read my statement again, keywords “besides the distance”.
The between the legs from the free throw line was more impressive but he took off from farther inside the FT line as well. But still deserving of a 50.
Gordon was creative, something we hadn’t seen in a while. Zach effectively showed he could dunk from the free throw line early and just repeated it over and over and over. It’s 100% a 50 but at a certain point it’s like alright where is your creativity?
fair but AG also used the mascot 3 times
@@zirc_ true both hard as hell for different reasons amazing dunks all around. Gordon should not have gotten a 47 for his last dunk but imo lavine deserved basically all his scores
@@zirc_ the mascot dunks were all different. the freethrow line dunks are all the same concept. Not to mention he completely copied AG's 360 with less difficulty and somehow still got a 50
@@zirc_he used the mascot but did different dunks... Not that hard to see
Lavine had the finesse Gordon had the creativity like did you guys see his one leg east bay from the free throw line
The unfortunate thing is Lavine dunks were great as well but AG was just on another level. From a pure creativity standpoint AG’s dunk contest was probably the best performance since the Dunk contest’s inception even surpassing Vince Carter.
Gordon was robbed in this one. Lavine was basically doing the same thing every time, Gordon was far more creative and brought out stuff we’d never seen before multiple times. Make this same video but with Gordon vs jones in 2020, because Dwayne Wade robbed him again just because he was teammates with jones on the heat.
Dude, that literally shows Lavine made a joke out of Gordon.
Why a guy should win that brings dunks the other guy easily copies afterwards?
Lavine won stop this bs
@@chrisgoat6435huh?
@@chrisgoat6435what are u talking about lavine copied liek 3 of Gordon’s dunks and went as hard as Aaron’s his dunks were nice but that’s backwards g
Na, Lavine won that shit, it wasn't robbed at all.
It was really tied, either of the two deserved to win and the one that loose would be robbed in a way.
Fast forward to 2024, MAC does a dunk never been done before. Jumping over someone clean, letting the ball go and reversing dunking it and gets a 46 by one of the judges… That’s why stars are scared to join the contest and that’s why we lost a good one like Aaron Gordon.
Judges don’t reward great dunks then get surprised that nobody wants to compete in it
womp womp
Lik cmon these are 50s. If Dominique Wilkins got 50d for windmills what are judging these guys on now... the showmanship maybe🤷🏾♂️..shyt lame af
I think that the NBA needs to do a better job explaining the judging criteria and making sure that they choose guys who will follow it. You can tell that midway through this years contest some official came out and whispered that they aren't supposed to penalize guys who fuck up on their first attempt, because they started giving great scores to dunks that weren't half as good as that one from Mac.
ok but like we did have a star in the contest. and arguably prob the worst dunks ever done in history. edit: the judges damn near gave him the win also bc he was most likely an allstar
I've always thought that AG's last dunk was extremely underrated. That may sound crazy given he still got a 47, but in real time I thought it was a 50. The degree of difficulty as Dom said himself was through the roof.
That was a 50 as well. These judges be trippin
Bro we have seen greats in the dunk contest like dominique, mj, vince, gerald green and NOBODY did a triple pump before until that dunk…dude got a 47😅
@@Brcan19double pump reverse not triple pump
Ag had the greatest dunk in the history of this league. He sat mid air over a mascot on a HOVER BOARD. i need a poster of that fr.
Mascot wasn’t on the hover board for that attempt
The Sitting dunk over the Mascot is the greatest dunk ever in the NBA dunk contest, freaking insane
I definitely will say Lavine shouldn’t have gotten a 50 on the 360 cause it was literally the same but the other 50s were 100% deserved. Aaron had the best dunk of the night for sure but when both people do stuff we’ve never seen it’s just who cracks first which itself the tomahawk at the end is debatable
He came up with that dunk on the fly…and nobody did it before him in the contest history🫠
@@Brcan19 that’s why I said even the last one could easily be argued as a 50. I consider it a 50 but I can also see how it was deemed “worse” than what was going on in the championship. They should have been consistent and docked points from Lavine for the 360 too
Its debatable if Gordon should've won here but he definitely should've won in 2020 against Derrick Jones Jr
not a robbery but certainly close af, AG lost coz the score is only up to 50 when he actually did dunks worth 60-70
Can’t be worth more the 50 unless you add more judges
I'm still pissed Aaron Gordon was robbed of this one! I have seen this dunk (9:26) so many times over the years and it still just amazes me! Yeah Lavine had a great dunk afterwards too but nothing can outdo what Aaron Gordon did there.
Greatest dunk of all-time in my opinion 🙌🏾🔥 That was unbelievable when I saw it live, and still blows my mind to this day
2016 NBA was just DIFFERENT bro 😔
Cavs had the best championship that year 2016
The media takes every opportunity to blame the players for the quality of the dunk contest, but how about the judges?!?
1. Good dunkers like Gordon get disillusioned after feeling robbed. And players who haven’t done it probably don’t feel it is fun as a result.
2. Their selection is so poor, we don’t get to see more of the best dunkers. Jacob Toppin may have had some good dunks for the next round, but we’ll never know.
3. Being too committed to ‘first try’ is a good way to get unimaginative dunks. Nothing groundbreaking is going to be an easy first-try. If you want to see new dunks, you gotta let them miss a few. Otherwise you will get more (I’m gonna dunk over a new object/person)
I actually like point 3. Creativity and difficulty goes out the window because of it and people try to solely rely on pure athleticism, so you get repetitive dunkers like LaVine/MacClung "dominating" with the judges.
The 2016 Dunk Contest is like the 2016 XXL Freshman Cypher.
It's remembered
It's entertaining
It's legendary
And it will never happen again
Y’all stay meat riding that cypher when at best it’s mid.
@@SpeedHomeAttack You're correct; it was mid lyrically definitely , but with its chemistry and camaraderie among the selected artists, foreshadowed each one ultimately conquering their respective fields with the years to come , and synergy unmatched by any other. The storylines that were and what came to be can all be brought back and connected to that very moment in that cypher. Not to mention it was simply the most entertaining🤣🤣
what lmao, that’s comparing legitimately talent and hard work vs “vibes”💀
You gotta do a part 2 now, with the infamous Wade's "That's a 9".
These caliber of dunkers 1v1, whoever goes first bound to get robbed.
In my heart AG is is 2x Dunk Champ.
Shaq is really the most consistent and probably best judge we've had in a while. He recognizes that a lot of these dunks are mad impressive and gives knows that they're all 10/10 dunks, but if you miss one, its a 9. Simple, easy, effective, and most of all fair judging from Diesel.
nah even with that dunk thats a 10
This is one of the few cases in sports wherein legit think they should’ve both won. I know it probably would’ve felt diminished as an award, but if either of them had this performance in any contest over the past 50 years, they would’ve won easily. They were both THAT dominant.
Idk how this can ever be topped unless there’s a similarly hype dunk contest but the equivalent of AG actually doesn’t get robbed
He didn’t get robbed here..2020 he definitely did
Vince Carter bro. Most hype EVER, didn’t fail.
Gordon should be a 2x dunk contest champ
everything abt this dunk contest was perfect bro . the court was fire, the crowd was great, the judges were actual legends not just role players, the commentary crew was ELITE (kenny smith masterclass), and the dunks were all time
Kenny smith is trash. Are you AI
It's tough cause Lavines dunks probably did deserve 50, but AGs were just another level
Blanked half the mascott dunks out. Forgot about those death traps, went through a taco bell on one.
Bang bang oh what a shot from
Curry
They should add more props like a trampoline and trapeze for the dunk contest
then no stars will do it ever because of the safety and injury risks. u really want your favorite dunker to risk career ending injuries from tryna dunk from a trapeze?
@@ayysea5717I mean they already don’t do it we’ve had like 3 all stars do the dunk contest in the last 8 years
Nobody gives a shit.
I don't want to hear yall crying like babies, once someone get hurt while having hopes for a ring.
@@jrdb04 true but literally nobody would sign up if the only way to win now is to jump of a trapeze do 3 backflips dunk it and land in a super hero pose
@@ayysea5717 true honestly they should just scrap the dunk contest we’ve seen everything we can for the most part and guys are gonna start getting hurt tryna do extra and really just scrap the all star game to I think the nba should be like the nfl where they have a bunch of mini games upgrade the skills challenge 3 point contest a power relay dodgeball and for the big event instead of the all star game if there not gonna give incentives to make players give half a shit do 1 on 1s by position for the best player in that position
Lavine did the same dunk 3 different ways, no creativity
3 mascot dunks
@@jaycarlos3559 1 behind the head 360 while the mascot is spinning on the first try?
1 UNDER BOTH LEGS over the mascot on first try?
I don't see how those are "same dunks"
LaVine did like 3 1 foot from FT line or something, worse part is he did the 360 1 hand without the behind the head AND to time while the mascot is spinning.
Lavine did AG's same dunk but not as good, he should not have gotten a 50 for plagiarism, even 2K gets that right
Also I’m not replying to anyone saying the opposite, you’re just wrong lol
I think Lavine's was actually better because he did a full 360 before dunking the ball, AG was already facing the other side when catching the ball so "just" a 180. Sure when you factor in the spinning mascot you can say it's tied, but I don't think AG's was better
@@xavierb7877Zach had the ball at his waist lol shit was crazy
AG version was more eye popping, Zach version was more impressive because he had to go catch it instead of grabbing it out of someone’s hand
@@jaycarlos3559 Grabbing out of hand of FCKIN ROTATING MASCOT
We watched this at a friend's house-party. I expected a dull contest, but mid way through, everyone was glued to the projecter screen my friend had set up. It was dope. We were all kinda drunk, loud, and everyone's mind was blown.
4:35 bro, that sentence just hit me like a fucking brick 😢😢
Gordon got robbed in broad daylight with no mask or gun. No disrespect to Levine and those free throw line dunks, but AG took a seat in the air. I have never seen that done before or since.
My boy AG gotta ring now fuck the dunk contest
Yeah lavine can keep his dunk trophy, gordon keeps the more important trophy
@@cdeleon3494 fact
realistic after the first couple dunks…lavine either did the 1 legged version of gordons dunks or the same dunk over and over. gordan was literally the epitome of what the dunk contest is supposed to be, creativity, charisma, consistency and just the ability to show the world why he is in the nba
All his dunks he needed assistants for
@@jaycarlos3559lavine assistant was the free throw
IDK. AG's last dunk seemed more like a 48 for me. It's a nice double pump especially since he went behind the head to start but I think you're overselling how difficult it really is compared to previous dunks over the years.
I do agree with the questionable scoring beforehand (especially with Lavine's copy dunk, but not enough to make me fell like this was a blatant robbery.
People say AG is robbed because he got beat 2x by similar dunks. Lavine spammed free throw jumps while DJJ spammed between the legs while jumping. Imagine having the most 50 pts in the history of dunk contest and not winning a single one.
A tie probably is the best outcome of this one. But no, NBA needs to boosts his viewership by letting them battle, cant blame them tho
Free throw line dunks are 50s every time no matter what
You gotta do the 2020 dunk contest fr
guys its been 22 seconds chill tf out lol
People are Soo fired up on this lol, it's crazy.
Both deserved the win, Anyone who didn't win it would have been robbed
@@MatiGamefut they should have made them co-winner
@@simon.the.salmonyes
I remember this dunk contest was cited the reason why in the championship round for like two years it wasn’t scored, it was who do you think has the better dunk, because of the 50 argument
I watched this with a severe concussion and it’s literally had amnesia from everything that week except this dunk contest😂
This year was the first time my son watched Allstar Weekend with me. After the dunk contest we watched 2016's contest & the Mrs & our son agree Gordan got robbed. 2016 was so good, a friend of mine that I haven't spoken too in about a year texted me & asked me if I was watching it lol
I'm a sucker for behind the back dunks. They're just so aesthetically pleasing!
damn this makes me wanna ask if u could react or if u did.. the Iggy Vs Nate dunk contest thats the last time i felt like how this one.
You should do more pov’s of iconic nba moments
hopefully we get someone like these two later in the future
You should make a video about the 2020 dunk contest.
I'm actually laughing how absurdly insane and impressive this whole thing was
Do a video about Minnesota soon 🙏
this honestly wasn’t even a robbery, 2020 was the real robbery . everyone in the building including the commentators basically had it as a done deal w gordon winning and then wade does some pussy shit and gives him a nine, I felt so bad 4 gordon
Totally agree, def the best dunk contest Ive ever seen. I still remeber how invested I was and was incredibly pissed off Aaron lost. No disrespect to Zach tho he was amazing too
Lavine and Gordon need to come out of retirement next year and save the dunk contest
Bro the fact that i came here to see this precise dunk contest and your video was the first thing in my suggested page
Oladipo & Gordon shaking hands was so wholesome
Lavine should have won on the behind the backboard dunk. Gordon had some more amazing dunks throughout, but it was close all the way through, and the fact that after Gordon did a dunk off the side of the backboard then lavine went BEHIND it earned him the victory
About AG's last dunk: think about how much time you need to hang in the air back to the rim to take the ball behind the head, then all the way down and again up for a reverse dunk
So fire!!!
I saw this dunk contest from a hospital bed, shortly after my daughter was born, and I this contest was just icing on the cake. I'm glad I got to see this live.
Every time I see Aaron Gordon’s under the chair dunk, I’m surprised by my own reaction 😭 I’ve seen it dozens of times atp but I get viscerally hyped every time
Best Dunk-Contest ever, and I ve seen Dominiques and Michaels when i was young
2016 dunk contest was so fire. We were spoiled.
I made the mistake of not appreciating this more, considering that I watched this live on TV.
Man, do I regret that.
I know he's made it clear he's never coming back but *man* would I pay to see AG in the dunk contest one last time especially now that he has Jokic as a partner for some potential fire dunks.
I think this could've been the first dunk contest to have two winners. If not that, then we would've at least gotten 1 or 2 more dunks from Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine if it wasn't for the judges. To sum it up, we were robbed of more dunks lol 🗿
Great idea
I think this was the first dunk contest I ever watched lol. My expectations were set after this.
I attended this in person i was in the nose bleeds on the end of the arena they were dunking on and attended kobe last all star game the next afternoon. Aaron gordon seat in the air and the 360 off the 360 hoverboard was the best 2. The line at the ovo store for the drake pink leather the next morning spanned 3 blocks lol. Man ever since that kobe video u did the day he passed I wish u could a retrospective documenting the 2016 season.
We need AG back in the dunk contest.
Well AG didnt really got robbed in 2016 because him and Lavine performed 2 greatest duno performances at dunk contest and both would feel robbed if they lost, but AG was clearly robbed when D.Wade was a judge when he gave him 9
Shaq did AG dirty with that 9 😂😂😂
Lavine's third dunk was just as good because he showed he could do the same dunk, but better.
And it WAS better; its way tougher to bounce yourself the ball than have someone slowly rotate so you can easily gauge your timing.
Gotta do the 2020 dunk contest now he got robbed even worst in that one
9:22 AG WAS DIFFERENT ON THAT ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Zach last dunk if they tied again was going to be a 360 free throw line dunk 😂😂😂😂 no cap
Rocky looking at Aaron and thinking "We should do it together next time".
The fact Lavine got a 50 after imitating AG's dunk with lesser difficulty, he also got 50 for yet another free throw line dunk right after AG jumped over a mascot with both legs over it, sat on the air and dunked that shit. Like at 6'9 or whatever tall he is... Come on man.
On AG's double clutch dunk man, when he was trying to come up with something... Mere mortals like us, regular athletes probably TEAR THE SHIT out of their abdomen trying to do that... And there goes Zach, for YET. ANOTHER. free throw line dunk. Which, by the way, NONE of them were actually from the free throw line as he stepped over it every time.
AG was creative, powerful and explosive. LaVine was impressive nonetheless but some attempts got repetitive. I absolutely HATE and DESPISE how he got the same score by performing THE SAME dunk AG had just performed... AG had to time his dunk with a mascot on a spinning hoverboard, catch it with one hand and 360. LaVine did the exact same thing but with a self toss and gets the same score? Come one man. AG should've won before they even went into the tie-breaker rounds and even after those rounds I still don't know how he didn't win anyways.
Lavine is crazy but man, I remember vividly how the world was so upset that they did AG very dirty.
they both deserved to win
You only have a set number of dunks in your bag. When that runs out what can you do in the fly. Typically you have more than enough for the contest...this one you needed a super deep bag
9:32 look at Jon Stewart hahahahahaha
Probably the two best individual performances ever in the dunk contest and it was against each other
My problem is, yes sure, Zach's earlier dunks should of been a 50... but AG's should of been 60s 😅
if Lavine didn’t win this the complaints would’ve been even worse all around lol
2016 was the first dunk contest I ever tuned in for.
I was spoiled.
Rewatch the 2020 dunk contest too
Gotta do 2020 now
If men and Women are equally good at basketball, we should do a Brittney Grinner vs Mac Mcclung dunk contest next year
It has always bothered me when the guy with the two or three best dunks in the event doesn’t win, especially when they are all timers at that.
Zach's first dunk in the final round should not be a 50
If he did it before AG then absolutely but AG set the bar high right off the back
I also used to be a contrarian on the he got robbed thing too with Aaron Gordon. However, no way I can deny. I fully accept Zach had one of the best dunk contest performances of all time, but so did Aaron Gordon.
That was probably the last good all Star weekend.
Leaving aside all the creativity talks. The first windmill of the 2nd round that Zach did was simply inferior to AG's. And that's 100% the biggest reason for AG to have won the contest.
No lie Aaron Gordon’s creativity was his down fall, he lowered the bar on the last dunk, if he woulda sat in the air one more time. GG’s
I always felt like they both should've won, if not both then it's easily AG. Zach Lavine still did his thing though.
a argument can be made that this killed the contest.
no way u did a whole reaction just for the add plug😂
That 2016 season was too good man🥲
You know it’s old wen demari Carrol is out there 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I legit forgot it wasn't just Gordon and Lavine in that contest
This was my first dunk contest, imagine my disappointment the next year 😂
AG got robbed, dude literally had the greatest ASW dunk of all time
Gordon’s under the legs over the mascot was the greatest dunk I’ve ever seen. No ones topped that since.
gordon dunks still insane
