Right? It always amazes me when grown-up people react in very confused, disturbed, or negative way to the fact that BTS members wear makeup for their work.
Even if we can somehow objectively measure and find out they wear the biggest amount of makeup out of all artists to ever grace the stage, so what?

As others have noted, this is NOT a good representation of their total discography. This song was written by Ed Sheeran. Normally, BTS members have major input into their lyrics and their music production. They have over 250 songs in their catalog ranging from rap to rock to R&B to NeoSoul to Pop and more! My personal favorite song is Black Swan, but after that I simply love all of their music. I would listen to Idol, Fake Love, Blood Sweat & Tears, I Need You, Tomorrow, Butterfly, Lie (by Jimin of BTS), Serendipity (by V of BTS), Interlude: Shadow (by Suga of BTS)….and it just keeps going! These songs would at least give you a decent cross section, but still not all of the genres. What makes most of us dedicated ARMYs is the meaning behind their music. Not every song is deep, but most are. They really advocate for self-love and development and speak openly against socio-economic norms. I really hope you’ll explore more of their music other than their recent English Pop songs. And, this is coming to you from a 55 year old grandmother in the United States. Their appeal is universal!

      Dear army ,
You’re saying “it’s written by Ed Sheeran” like it’s an excuse …. this song still did good regardless of who wrote it or not. Just because this dude doesn’t care for the song doesn’t mean u have to explain why this song doesn’t “represent” them. It’s still THEIR SONG AND NO ONE said this song represented them as a whole musically. Stop trying to find ways to push BTS on ppl who didn’t like one song. We know their music is a bop and there’s people who don’t think every song of theirs is not a bop. At the end of the day their music is still their music and whatever they put out is either enjoyed or not enjoyed by the masses….

@@politicalblink This reactor is new to BTS, so I was simply giving him information…not “an excuse”. Why on earth would I not try to explain a bit about BTS’ music given the fact that these 7 men literally saved my sanity when they found me just last year. I know that ARMYs are great people and all of my interactions have been positive up to this point. However, I’m disheartened when I see this kind of comment directed to a fellow ARMY. Not the first time I’ve seen this happen, but it’s the first time it’s been directed at me. If you happen to disagree with someone else, or in this case, almost everyone else, that’s fine. But, I think it would be better to just make the comment as a stand alone comment. Feeling like a target doesn’t feel good. BTS, and people who are discovering BTS, make me feel good! Uhm this is just 0.01% of BTS discography. They literally do any genre. If you want to discover their musics then you can check out their songs on their mixtape and the songs they released for free. Still With You, a song by JK, jazzy ballad song was one of fans' favorite, a hidden masterpiece if I were to say. Taehyung has a lot of good songs too like Snow Flower, Christmas Tree, Scenery, Sweet Night and Winter Bear. RM had released many great songs but my favorite will probably his entire Mono playlist, his second mixtape, specially Moonchild. Well, those are just some of my few favorites. Most of the time, I honestly find BTS' bside tracks more amazing than the title track---which has an mv. That's why they said, nonfans don't know how great BTS musics are because only fans knew the hidden treasures of the band and that also includes their hidden tracks in their albums.

I had to laugh at BTS being "sort of popular in the US in the past couple of years." Yeah, I guess...if you define "sort of popular" as six number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 since the August 21, 2020 release of "Dynamite." Most people call that explosively popular at the very least. You might watch a guide on BTS to get a more accurate picture of this band = their history, their road to the worldwide superstardom they currently enjoy, their immense and very diverse discography (300+ songs, multiple genres (pop, hip hop, neo-soul, R&B, EDM, rock, ballad, trap, and more)). We often suggest "This is BTS: Introduction to BTS" by xCeleste, "An Introduction to the 7 Members of BTS" by Ida S., and "The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS" by The Asian Theory - and be sure to choose the versions updated in 2021 for all three videos.

It was basically to close the English singles trilogy of BTS(which started during pandemic in hope to uplift people) that started with "Dynamite" which came out in 2020 and "Butter" which was released last year. Permission to dance, in a way, was an outro track for this and they delivered it perfectly.

Actually I have been BTS army since 2014 and must admit the 3 songs released for the american market, Butter, Permission to Dance & Dynamite are all very simple tunes. Very good songs but also very simple tunes, however BTS themselves have covered a wide range of genre's and range is depths to music, themes, lyrics & vocals. Their complexity shows the more you review the songs. See our fearless leader RM has an IQ of 148 and very good at what he does, his main hobby is reading. One album was based from Carl Jung, one song from Herman Hess novel damien - Blood Sweat & Tears, another was linked in theory to the sewol ferry disaster which killed nearly 300 children which was called "spring day". You have a range of music videos interconnected with a storyline with album released notes etc that all tell of a complexed story called BU Universe. You have heaps of funny moments, behind the scenes, BTS Run, and In the soop there own variety shows, Vlive broadcasts directly to army, dance practices, charity work by both BTS & Army on behalf of BTS. The list goes on, when it comes to their acheivements..

You have to remember English is not their first language so maybe as a music producer, you could have had more of an open mind and realized that their English songs are really just meant to be fun pop songs. As any other person commenting on here would tell you - their Korean songs are a lot more nuanced & much better representation of them …(obviously , they’re Korean …lol).
I don’t know who recommended PTD to you either. Butter/dynamite is a lot better if you just wanted to check out their English singles.

How many years have BTS been together? How many years since debut? How many song, albums, concerts? How many millions of fans? How big of a team they have and what is the production value of their music videos, reality show, and pretty much everything they set out to do?
And artists of such caliber and skills, plus the people who work for them and with them, will somehow forget to cut a scene that wasn't supposed to be in the video? The whole one minute of it?

BTS released 3 songs that were written by the top song writers in the music business. These songs are their "feel good" during the pandemic songs. They were worried about ARMY during the pandemic, so they put out feelers for upbeat songs. Dynamite written by BTS, David Stewart and Jessica Agombar. Butter was written by BTS, Jenna Andrews, RM, Alex Bilowitz, Sebastian Garcia, Robert Grimaldi, Stephen Kirk, and Ron Perry, and Permission to Dance was written by BTS, Ed Sherhan & Anna Garrison. Sometime you should listen to a songs that they write. They nailed this assignment. They just wanted songs to take our minds off the pandemic. Songs that were upbeat & happy. Check out the live versions of songs. LIE by Jimin, Fake Love, Black Swan, House of Cards, Pied Piper, Truth Untold. Enjoy!

I'm trying to be respectful here...but please move on and go "react" and give your 2 cents to another group. To understand BTS music you must first understand BTS. Walking in and PTD being your first and your comments are disrespectful to their artistry and to their person. PTD was chosen by them for a reason and one that unless you know, any critique is baseless. For one, PTD, to see it LIVE on STAGE, is a kick arse song to close a concert too. Either dig deeper or hang your boots up, mate.

  • @yourmoonchild1420

Some of these comments are odd… PTD, butter, and dynamite are all part of BTS’ discography, saying their not good representations of what their discography is would be saying that their discography has a certain sound and I think we all know it doesn’t. These 3 songs that I’m sure you’ve heard all before were part of an era, they were part of BTS’ feel good era were they just wanted some simple happy music that people could easily vibe too. All these songs were made in the pandemic and idk if we would have gotten them otherwise, but BTS simply wanted to cheer people up during these hard times (also hence why they’re in English;. BTS have a lot of different types of music that you may or may not want ti check out, but they don’t have a sound or style that I would associate as being the ‘BTS Way’. Their range is pretty insane when checking out their 300+ songs and you’ll see how different each album sounds. They do the poppy stuff, the do hip hop, rap, rnb, edm, and many many more. I do hope that you aren’t just here for the English stuff cuz I think you would be missing out on the true BTS experience, but trust me and everyone in the comments on the fact that there’s a lot of different sounds to their music.

    • @jessaramos2992

That's the thing...new reactors won't know that dynamite, butter and PTD are meant to be the "uplifting fun songs" in the midst of a global pandemic. I think a lot of ARMYS on here appreciate and recognize what those songs mean and represent - I certainly do at least. But frankly speaking, I do not think any of their english songs represent them to their full potential ...it just represents a part of the full package. Like you said, BTS do not have "a certain sound" as each era is beautifully different than the last. BUT these 3 english singles techincally all "sound the same" because they're generic pop songs...PTD especially. So how would this guy know that these songs are mean tto be songs to cheer people up when he already has prejuidces? The lip gloss comment is a prime example.
I always think that if you're going to check out a new artist, espcially a non-native english artist then you should try and have more of an open mind, recognize that maybe songs sung in their native tongue is probably better to check out first or at least acknowelege that their english songs might not exactly paint an accurate representation of them. Take Twice's "the feels" for example ....a full english song and as someone who knows nothing about them, I can tell it's a cute fun pop song but I don't judge the rest of their music from that one song.
This guy thinks BTS is "basic" because of one song and it's quite ovious he has preconcieved notions about them. His second reaction to the "Fix you" cover was equally questinoable in the and the way he talks when he' reacts to the video come off as sound backhanded compliments. That's just my opinon though & to each their own. I think we're al in agreement when we know the boys have a wide arrange of music.

I'm gonna enjoy watching your future reactions if all you've heard from BTS is their eng songs.
Want to play a little game of deconstructing BTS music? Listen to Ddaeng (it's produced by SUGA one of the rappers of BTS and performed by only the rappers, no vocalists)
Want a taste of reinventing the wheel in chord progression? Listen to Lie by BTS, it's a song performed by Jimin, one of the vocalists.
Oh, also FYI permission to dance is produced by Ed Sheeran, which is why it sounds very 'western pop' which is not meant in a negative way at all, it just means that it's more familiar in terms of structure to western listeners and music makers. Which is not the case for most of BTS music that's mainly produced by the members themselves 😊

But, as music producer I'm sure you know that song isn't only about chords, instruments or vocals. The lyrics are also very important, for many people. For example, if you listen to BTS Spring Day, you may say it also has basic chords and structure. But, if you digging the lyrics and meaning behind that beautiful song, you'll be amaze. I really hope you'll react to mooore BTS' songs, maybe ARMY (BTS fandom) will appreciate them because you know much about music, and can learn about the chords from you. Regards fr Indonesia..!

Permission to Dance will serve as a gift dedicated to ARMY on the fan club's birthday, July 9, 2021. The day that BTS' fandom was officially christened ARMY. It was written by Sheeran along with Steve Mac, Johnny McDaid, and Jenna Andrews, and produced by Mac, Andrews, and Stephen Kirk. BTS And Ed Sheeran's ‘Permission To Dance’ Lyrics Are Your Reminder To Let Yourself Feel Good.
As BTS told Zane Lowe of “Butter” and its purpose, via an interpreter, in May, “We wanted to create a song that's really upbeat, that's a really summer song that, as you said, it makes people happy and go out and dance. That's what we want to do. We wanted to have a summer song that can heal and console people. That's why we chose this song and that's why we decided to release this song. This is a really fun song so when we finished recording it, we all listened to it together. Then we were saying to each other, ‘This is so great. This is such a fun song.’”
